I love 'em, but have never ventured into the world of exotic ones! lol I always get Sweet 100's plants, my 3 have had the best year so far, a little slow to put on fruit but once they started, wow! We're picking some everyday and either eat them like candy or save up a day or 2's worth and use them in salads or with sandwiches. I could eat these things all day if I had enough of 'em.

Yes - I plant 'Sweet Million' and it OVER-produces for me every year - just like eating a piece of candy!

Yes I love the cherry and grape tomatoes and my 5 year old has been eating them by the handful since she was a year old. I grow a decent sized garden and the kids love to go out and pick things and eat them on the run. I don't use and chemicals or fertilizer in my garden so it is safe for them.

sungold is well worth trying and the only other cherry type i bother w/ is Red Current, it's an heirloom chinese type. it produces tiny, very sweet and very tomatoey flavored fruit that are great for sweet snacks. ~ liz

I'm growing black cherries for the first time. Should have some ripe ones soon. I love the red jelly belly ones I grew a couple of years ago. Always used to grow yellow pears for the kidlets. My first/only DGD loved the cherry maters I grew just for her. They moved away to western ND when she was 2. The next Christmas they were back for a visit during a very cold MN winter. DGD started to cry because mean ole Grandma wouldn't take her out to the garden and pick some maters, so I had to take her to town and buy some.

Cherry tomatoes taste good, but I prefer eating a full size tomato.

I love grape and cherry tomatoes. One of my six tomato plants has grape tomatoes. I pick and eat two or three daily. My treat!

I also love cherry tomatoes. I love to marinate them in olive oil, a tsp. of real orange juice, a little lavendar spice that I buy from Hawaii and I throw in a sprig of my homegrown rosemary. Oh they are so good. And a very easy thing to take to a potluck or barbecue.

Living in So.Cal (and not having any ground of my own) I grew a couple of heirloom tomatoes in pots this year. They were just okay...but next year I'm going to try a good hearty cherry tomato!

Yep - we've had several already and have twenty more on one plant - not that I'm countin' or anything, you understand! LOL Don't remember what kind they are but they are the good old acidy (is that a word, it is now...) kind of tomato. Will check next year for the ones you're talking about. Thanks for the hint!

This is my first year to plant a cherry tomato. We normally just do regular size heirlooms. But I think I'll plant more next year. Mine bore fruit early and is still going strong.

I'll have to check out the tomato forum - that's one I've never read.

I have to limit myself to ONE cherry tomato plant each year. One year I got a six pack and can you say attack of the killer tomatoes. Those things took over the garden, you had to go out and hack your way through! Last year I planted one plant in one of the raised bed boxes and it took over 3 of it's neighbors. This year I had volunteers so I transplanted 2 (mistake-should have had only one) and gave the rest away. I find the yellow pear tomatoes to be mealy and not very flavorful. I love the sweet 100's, but will have to get some seeds of those other varieties and plant them.

I agree with pawsitive, if you are looking for a flavorful little tomato, don't bother planting the yellow pear. No flavor, and mealy describes the texture perfectly.

I have an unknown cherry growing this year that a friend gave me, saying that it has been "in the family" for several generations. After the disappointment of the yellow pear last year, this one had better be good. They are almost golf ball size. I expect to have a couple ready to eat in a couple of days.

I love them for salads and just for snacking. When I am working up in the garden I will eat some just to have a snack. Last year I grew a heirloom white yellow variety. No name, just called white cherry tomato. It was the best one we have ever grown. Great flavor and just the right sweetness. This year I grew a dark yellow pear cherry tomato. It is also good but not as good as last years.
