I haven't lived there for a long time, but I will always think of myself as a New Yorker. And a country girl because I live in the country. I guess I have a split personality. :-)

I grew up in Queens, lived there till I was married, and then lived with my DH in midtown Manhattan. When I was young we spent six weeks in Sag Harbor every summer, on Noyack Bay. Sometimes I still feel landlocked in PA.

We just visited our DS and family who live near Central Park in Manhattan.
We walked a lot!

Born and raised in New York. Had the pleasure of living all over the state as my father managed different state park regions his entire career. Born south of Buffalo near the Pennsylvania border, lived throughout the Hudson Valley, near Syracuse and taught school in Tupper Lake. Now living near Tampa, FL via 9 years north of Atlanta.

Almost. Grew up in Ct. Spent alot of time in NY. Especially when the drinking age was 18 in NY and 21 everywhere else. Had a down payment on an apt in NYC at one point, but changed my mind. Still have a friend that lives near Columbia. Used to vacation in the Catskills. Been all over NY state. Godparents lived in Amityville.
Love the Big Apple. Been back a few times since I moved to the left coast.

Wow, wow, wow -- Alisande -- I can take a ferry over to Sag Harbor from where we live. Can't believe you spent your summers there.
Carol, there is nowhere in this world like Central Park. Especially the Zoo.
Mimi -- I know you said you don't miss the snow. But I love it! Especially with the two Saint Bernards. When I dress warm, there is nothing like walking these two beautiful animals through the snow. And watching them in their element.
And, lindakathy, Amityville is about 45 miles from us.

I live in the middle of the Adirondacks. So lucky to live here among the beautiful mountains and lakes. I am half an hour north of Lake George.

Hi Dody - I guess we are the only upstaters :-) I'm in Saratoga County. Also lived in Ulster County for many years, with a brief stint in Niagara Falls.

Grew up in So. Calif. and lived there off and on later - they couldn't pay me enough to ever go back!!!

Trisha, I was born and raised (until almost 13) on the West Coast...Long Beach Ca.

However, I've always dreamed of going to New York and seeing each and every Broadway show. Plus, I'd thoroughly enjoy the Westminster Dog Show in person. Have you had a chance to see any of these events/performances?

I was born, raised and still live on Long Island...50 miles east of Manhattan, on the north shore.

I love everything about LI except the traffic congestion and property tax increases each year.

Love taking day trips to Manhattan via the LIRR.

Born and lived in Manhattan until I was 16. We had a 'summer home' in southern Dutchess County where we moved to full-time at the end of my junior year in HS. I've lived in NY State my whole life, eventually ending up back at the house I grew up in. My parents passed away years ago and I inherited the property. When DH and I got married we sold his house because we wanted to live in 'my' house, which is now 'our' house. We love it here.

Must say that I was wondering if there were any KTers on LI.

I grew up in central nassau county and now live on closer to the south shore. I have the privledge of schelping to Huntington for work, so I am not too far from you Trisha.

I looked up your B&B from the last post. Just beautiful!

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I went to boarding school in Brentwood, LI. St. Joseph's Academy--it's not a boarding school anymore.

My dad was a wonderful amateur photographer, and I've been working on digitizing his negatives from the 1930s and 40s. All were taken in NYC or Long Island.

My parents were living in the Village before I was born, and he took a lot of pictures there. I posted a few of his shots on a photography website, including one of a city street taken out of a window. One of the photographers on the site told me he would find that street and take a picture to show me what it looks like today--and he did!

Trisha, my dd3 will be going to Fordham at the end of August. I'm so happy to have the opportunity to visit nyc and went there for the first time last year, though we didn't really have time to sight-see as we were looking at colleges. I've heard of the botanical garden there--how is it? And isn't there also a zoo? We're not staying in the Bronx as I don't know much about the neighborhood and was a little nervous at the thought, but I sure would like to explore the area a little. (We live in CA.)

I've lived most parts of New York. Born in Buffalo, moved to Clarence at age 10, them college in Geneseo, then got a job in Queens NY and had an apartment bthere 3 years, then got married and moved to Huntington Long Island in 1979, then bought a house in Kings Park Long Island in 1981, still there.

Erin - you'll have such fun visiting your daughter in the city. My daughter went to college there and then lived in Brooklyn for a while with 5 other girls from college. I was lucky because I'm only a 90 minute ride from NY. I'd get up early in the morning and catch the train and we'd meet for breakfast and then spend the day wandering around the Village, or midtown, or going to a Broadway matinee or a museum. We've been to the taping of several TV shows - Letterman, The View, Regis and Kelly, Rachel Ray, Conan. I love walking around the city it's invigorating.

Sometimes I'll decide on the spur of the moment to take a trip into the city by myself - usually in October when the summer heat has faded and there is just a hint of chill in the air. Then again in early December when all the holiday decorations are up I'll head to the city and stay for a night or two sometimes with my DH or a girlfriend or my DD. I'll make any excuse to head that way. Just say the word and I'll go visit your daughter too!!

Never did make it to the "city" though...I'd like to at least once in my life.

Marie Cate-- you sound like my dsis-i-l who is champing at the bit to visit. You're right about all the walking being invigorating, and I didn't even notice my sore back and feet.:) Dh an I will have a couple of days on our own and I'm REALLY hoping for better weather than what you've had lately.

I'm just waiting for some nice cool fall day, I'll take the Long Island Railroad in and enjoy a day in The City.

I was born and raised in Rockland county and lived there til i graduated high school in Suffern N.Y.,then i moved to Paterson N.J.for a few years,married dh who was in the marine corps and we started moving around the country,and ended up here in S.Ca where i have lived for 46 years.

I have one sister in Manhattan,One in Hillburn,and 3 up in i think it's Orange cnty,washingtonville,warwick and goshen.

I spent the summer of my 13year of life in Buffalo at my sisters house.

granlan tx - many brdway shows -- just saw Jersey Boys (great), Mama Mia, Carole King and James Taylor (blew my mind). I've been to 1 Westminsister Dog Show. Of course, I was rooting for the Saint Bernards. But that year the Newfoundland won. Close enough.
czech - so you must be clse to me. I take the Hampton Jitney into the city. It takes the same time as the LIRR.
sjerin - I grew up 3 miles from Fordham Univ. The Botanical Gardens is something to see.

Erin, my son and his family live just down the block from Fordham.....we passed it everyday while walking to the park or to Lincoln Center.
We visited the Brooklyn botanical gardens once in the Spring....beautiful.

As you can tell from my name, I live in upstate NY. Kittywhiskers, Dody and I live about an hour and a half from Plattsburg. It usually took us about two hours to Montreal for the baseball games. We went to NYC once for a ballgame and we couldn't stand the traffic so we never went again. it took four hours to get to the outskirts

Trish- I've worked all over long island, and let me tell you this... The nicest people live in this area. They are the sweetest most easy going people around. It may take me almost an hour commute to the office, but the customers make it a very pleasant day.

Carol--there are actually two Fordham campuses: one for theater arts, dance, etc. near Lincoln Center and one in the Bronx. The students can take classes at both campuses.

Anyone up for a day trip into the city? I did mention that I'll use any excuse for a trip. Last year I could have wired a payment to a NYC firm - but one beautiful day I just hopped the train and hand delivered it. Then I wandered around, had a fabulous lunch at Jean Georges on Central Park, did some window shopping and then headed back to Penn Station.

Not me, but my parents both did. My mom grew up in Little Falls,NY. Anyone ever heard of it? It's Upstate. I'd be so impressed. Her sisters live in Rome(NY), Binghamton and Utica. And assorted nieces and nephews all over that area.

My dad grew up in the Bronx. He actually went to high school with Regis Philbin (different year though)and then St John's and NYU.

Then they both moved to Washington DC for work and to get away from the winters and met through friends. The rest (ME!!) is history! LOL
