Not so good news about my friend......

I just received a message from the husband, that a good long time friend of mine is battling her end with cancer.

A year and a half ago she passed out in her yard, going to her car, and was taken to the ER.

They ended up diagnosing her with lung cancer. They found it had metastasized to the brain.

Over the course of treatment, she did well, and seemed to be getting back to her old self. Although optimistic, they knew that this would be a long hard battle.

She was the one I sent the "Chemo Sabi" troll doll to last year. Thank you so much Jenni in California ((hugs))

Her husband in Oregon, sent out and email today letting us know that they have had to call on the angels of mercy who administer hospice care for her, and she is currently in the hospital, but that maybe they can get her home for a few weeks.

He wrote "We have no real, definate timeframes to deal with, but the general prognosis (from all of the doctors associated with her case) is that God will more than likely take her home to be with him in the very near future."

This is so tough, we went to beauty school together, and for all that have gone to school with a friend, you know this is a bind that ties you close forever.

I only ask for prayers for her physical comfort, and that God protect her from fear.

I will keep her in my prayers.
It is so difficult to lose a long time friend, especially to cancer. Makes you feel like you have lost a part of yourself.

Thank you for that helpful bit of info, will depend on how leafed out, don't know what to expect. I always water potted plants and let them sit a bit before I put them in. I tend to overwater, and the soil around here gets so dry so FAST these last few years! The new batch coming is going on the east side of the house, oh yes, I got Veilchenblau and 2 Gruss which are supposed to do well in part shade; it won't dry out quite so fast, but it does get dry, and I have to watch it. Next year I may not have to water so much as it seems the roots on stuff I put in last year have gone deeper. We've got rain on the way so I put off watering most stuff except scattered some poppy seeds. Now I have to keep that moist continually. I found a pretty pink columbine at HD and went and planted it out by the garage. The soil looked dry as a bone, but when I got down about an inch, it was nice and moist. Thanks for mentioning spreading out the roots a bit. I wouldn't have thought of that but do always try to dig a little bigger holes than I need and then fill back in to where the plant will be even or just a slight bit deeper. That gives the plant a little better start, chops off competing roots, and loosens the soil around them. My Austins look kind of pathetic but I have high hopes for some of them at least. What must the neighbors think, sticks poking out of the ground with funny shoots on them? Then I have seeds to plant to fill in, hope that works out ok. I will mulch around the roses and leave the bare soil until the seeds get going, if I'm lucky. Thanks again, you are a wonderful help and have been on other threads as well. I fell in love with these purple poppies, so will have to plant those, just came in the mail, so much to do. Those aren't the ones I scattered earlier today. Good Morning, Everyone! Thank you all for the "welcome back". I missed each and every one of you. Stormy here today on this Good Friday. Dark and a bit chilly out. Good weather for gardens though. Glad for the rain though. We've had high temps and high, dry winds this past week and wildfires every day. Nothing close to here, but close enough that I could smell the smoke. My dogs erupted in chorus with every firetruck that passed by over on the highway.(hehehe). I took pictures of the gardens on the 31st. Glad I did, as the hot, dry winds dried out all the pretty yellow Jonquils later that day. Blasted hot winds ruined them before our Easter Sunday family picnic and egg hunt. They were magnificent in chorus with the yellow forsythias, white Bridle's Wreath, and Redbud trees now in full bloom all over the garden. My beloved Jane Magnolia is breathtakingly beautiful this year and smells so wonderful. I planted out some Orange Perfection Phlox yesterday. Tried them last year, but they didn't make it. This rain may ensure these do. I dug around in the bin at the store until I found one, just one package with moist peat inside. Holding it up to to sunlight, I could just make out something possibly alive in that dark green plastic bag. Makes me mad to pay five bucks for dead rootstock. They are not the best looking root stocks I ever saw, but think they will make it. I only need one to survive to establish a nice clump this year for next year's blooms. I also planted a package of purple Liatris and a package of Freesia bulbs for summer blooms. I love the smell of Freesia. Yummy. All the Peonies are up and beginning to make tiny flower buds. Hopefully the red ones and deep magenta ones will bloom this year too. If they do, it will be their first time. Some deer came into the yard this winter and ate the top branches off the one surviving River birch sapling, but it is recovering nicely now. I caged it with a tomato cage and for now they are leaving it alone. They are "camped" up on the hill, hiding in wait for my juicy, delicious roses to start blooming, no doubt. :[ I've been taking the dogs for walks up there every morning and hopefully their pee and poop will make them think twice about coming any closer to the back yard. My English Shepherd could easily take down a whitetail deer. DH said this weekend he would finish stretching field fence around on the inside of the existing barbed wire fencing to keep out critters. That won't keep deer out, but it will keep our dogs in, so we can let them run loose on the property. That will be great. They need the exercise and I need them to do their job protecting the place. They love it, too. Hopefully the raccoons & coyotes will take the hint. Keep Out! Anyhow, so far so good. Gotta go check on my chicks. They poopy up their water really fast and will be ready for breakfast. :) Talk to you guys later. ~Annie

I would imagine she's in intensive care, I'll find out more when I go into work tomorrow. I know this is just baby steps and I'm trying not to get too hopeful but it IS a start! I don't have much faith in the medical profession here in UK especially the stories I've heard about the hosp she's in. Chisue, I think DD is going to move in with her Gram and look for a job in Chicago. She has a couple friends from college who are living around Chicago and would love to live with her Gramma. I will feel so much better having her there. I will spend the next week with my Mom and help her. Apparently her right arm is still somewhat affected and weak.

I do wish for her, comfort and the word that comes to mind is, peace, knowing that her family will be ok and that she will always be in their hearts.

And one more addition, she smoked socially, but not often.
Her husband has played in a band for over thirty years, and he feels guilty that she may have been over exposed to cigarette smoke in the clubs. He blames himself.
She has an identical twin sister, that has not suffered any of the rath of cancer thus far.
One just never knows.

Thanks for all your heartful thoughts, it's really tough to know the end is near for a loved one, and there is nothing you can do about it but wait.

I'm sorry...I know how hard it is...I lost a friend who was a childhood friend all the way up until she passed...she was 48 years old when the big C got her. I hate Cancer...

One of my best friends has a BIL with similar circumstances (lung then brain). He is still undergoing treatments, but what a hard fight...

Trin, I'm adding my special thoughts for your dear friend and hoping her last days can be comfortable as possible.

I lost my dear Mother to this horrible disease and have some sweet friends now currently facing their own battle..all too young to leave this world. :(

Hi Trin,

I will certainly keep you, and your friend and her family in my thoughts any prayers. This very thing happened to a very close friend. He actually had a seizure in my front yard - I just held him in my arms and it was over just as quickly as it started. The lung cancer was just a very small piece of it. He had surgery and all seemed to be OK. Shortly thereafter, the brain tumor returned - it was a very aggressive form of cancer that he could not overcome. It was almost exactly a year after the initial seizure. He was such a strong person - physically, mentally and emotionally. It was such a shock to see that happen.

I can imagine how you must feel. I am really so very sorry. Sending hugs your way, kiddo.

I lost my FBF (First Best Friend) to a glioma (brain cancer) two years ago. It was proof that life ain't fair.

Sorry for your loss, Trin, but glad she and her family will have hospice to ease the end.
