Or just call ahead and have them pick it up.
We take our yard waste to the dump, but we go to the
recycle part where they make compost out of it. they charge
less to take it there, than the garbage dump part.

I have put my can across the street before, and let them empty it, bring it back over, refill it, and set it out on my side. :)

If you have old sheets, blankets etc, check with your animal shelter. They always need items like that for the animals.

Kat, no, you can have 2 for free. No garden recycling here in this little town. I don't think they even recycle, at least I've never seen anything in the paper about it. I used to just throw all my yard waste into my giant compost area out back but when I started seeing the same weeds coming back in my garden after using the compost I decided not to do that anymore. I only put grass, old vegetable plants or tree leaves, that type of thing in there. I know if you properly maintain your compost bin it is supposed to kill everything but I don't. I don't have the time or energy. So, it takes years for my stuff to break down.

Moni, normally this Friday would be my day off, but next week I requested that Friday off so I could pick up the girls at the airport, so they are making me work this Friday.

Mariend, never thought of that, if I find anymore I will set them aside and call them. I plan to have a yard sale and anything that doesn't sell I'm donating to the animal shelter's annual rummage sale.

I saved the kids sheets and am now using them when the grandsons visit. The older one sleeps in a twin with his uncle's Star Wars sheets! Star Wars is back in too.

It used to be if you put a jug of booze out there with it, they'd take ANYTHING!!

Call them and talk to them. Tell them you're doing a one time cleanout and need more picked up. I'm sure they'll do it, probably no extra charge either.

And technically, getting "tricky" can land you in trouble. Around here they enforce theft of service laws although I know many places won't.

We take all our trash to the county compactor site. For about $2, I get rid of a huge bag of trash. You drop the bag into a big hole which goes to the compactor and they fill up a dumpster with crushed, compacted waste. Then they haul it off somewhere.

We do this about once a month or so. We also recycle everything we can so we don't make a lot of trash, but it's so much cheaper than having them come once a week to pick it up for about $25 a month. I would call your county offices and ask them if they have a place like this.

And yes, clean bedding is always welcomed at our animal shelter.

I second (third) donating bedding to animal shelters. They are SO greatful to receive any donations....

Why don't you call back and offer to go wherever they're stored, to pick up the can yourself. We do that for extra recycling bins (provided free by the town). It's much faster to just run over to the town garage and grab one, than to wait until they have a chance to bring one out. They'll probably be thrilled to be saved an extra trip.

Otherwise, what about asking your neigbhors if, if their cans aren't full, if you can add a bag or two to their cans? And even if you can't, it sounds as if that stuff has been sitting around in your house for forever, anyway. It really isn't going to hurt if it sits out beside the garage, shed, or in a corner of the yard for another week or so, is it?

Azzalea, they are too big to fit in my car. Plus, it looks like they just now dropped it off! Either that or someone took my other one down to the curb. ( :

My town has only a few rules about garbage. Cans must be put out no earlier than 6 pm the night before, any number of cans and/or contractors bags alowed, but no construction debris or yard waste. Somehow I manage. I once dragged a bag of lawn clippings to the back of a grocery store and shoved it in their dumpster. And once I put leaves in a black Force Flex bag and hid it with my regular garbage.
