I rarely talk on my cell - maybe twice or three times a month. I used it mostly for texting, emailing, and surfing.

sometimes, I email more than text. But when I need to get info to one of my concierge clients fast, (protection for a cancelled flight, confirmation of a hotel change, etc) it works great!

I text with my granddaughter, and occasionally with my daughter or friends. I turned off the automatic feature on my phone because my texts became completely unintelligible. They were funny, but useless.

I know you will all find this diffucult to believe, but we have no landline phone, and must therefore rely fully upon our cell phones, but even with that, in the last year I have averaged 18minutes or less per month in voice, no text, no Ap's, no GPS or any of those other nonesensical utilities they want us to believe we can't live without.

When I get the urge to text I fire up my ham radio and text around the world via CW (morse code).

Oh yes..and did I mention, I don't tweet or do facebook and I absolutely don't do the mid morning coffee clutch gossip society routine either.

Basically, I absolutely abhor gossip no matter what medium ppl choose to spread it.

All the time! Its great for a quick question or an update on something. Having kids ranging from 12-18, its a great way to keep tabs on them that is non intrusive, same for DH when he is at work.

I sometimes text my DD (no one else)... but it would be much faster for me to call. I'm very slow at texting.

We are on a family plan with one of our daughters...We have everything unlimited except our talking minutes...LOL...none of us use our phones for talking much..

Yup, I text all the time, with Chloe, my sister, my friends, and people from work. I find that my friends and I tend to share far more little stuff that we'd never bother to call or email about.

yes, I text way more than talk on my phone. Easier. I never know when I am interupting others if I call... this way, I leave a message and they get back when they can. Same to me. If I am busy I will answer you later.

I don't have voice mail hooked up to my phone though. If I don't answer, try back or I will see there is a missed call and call you back. Others hate that I don't have a place for THEM to leave messages. It is MY phone, if I don't want to answer, so be it. I will call you back.... they just don't get it. I have a land line to, which has an answering machine, they can call that if they HAVE to leave a message.

Usually, isn't it, call me back.... that is all they leave. So yes, I see a missed call, I call you back..... message gotten.... duh.

Usually not. Texting costs me 25 cents a message I think. I did text quite a bit over the weekend when I was driving the bus for the RAGBRAI bicyclists. One of them would text me to let me know when they would be arriving, etc. and I would text back. It was very handy for arranging which church to eat dinner at. Otherwise with phoning we were just playing phone tag.

Yes. It's cheaper and far less obtrusive to those around you. Spent enough time on the phone talking during my "working days" and I have a copy of the texts in case I need to check on something like an address or whatever. I text my hubby when we're parking at the airport so we don't forget the row and aisle. We have unlimited texting with Verizon, but only 700 minutes a month for talk. I had no idea that some plans actually COST MORE to text????? I thought it was always cheaper...even TracFone only charges one third of a minute for a text.

like some others, I find I give the phone company enough money without texting.

No, do not text...but we sure do tease my granddaughter that she text so much that when she gets married, her and her husband will sit on the couch together and text each other
. Even her friends say that she if the queen of text. Me, I do not get texting, really. I like to hear a persons voice, so if my granddaughter wants to hear from me she knows I will only talk over the phone or person to person. :-)

Like Moni we have texting blocked and also internet on all the phones on our plan. I too would rather hear a persons voice. I don't use my cell phone much at all.

My boss gave me a company cell phone. I had to learn to text if I wanted to talk to him. He hates talking on the phone. I send him half messages all the time, somehow hitting the send too quick. Or....I have a strange word in there from auto correct. :)

Only when I really want my oldest daughter to call me back. She doesn't answer her cell phone or listen to voice mail. If I text and say call me, she usually will.

Fran1523, that seems to be the norm with kids now. I was listening in on a conversation of people in the age range of about 25-30 at work, and pretty much all of them agreed that they don't listen to voice mail (or even have it set up), and they generally only answer the phone if the other person has texted first to let them know to answer.

I do get the thing about voice mail, though I still have it. I only *wish* people would text instead of using it! I have all my business voice mail transcribed and emailed to me, so I don't have to listen to it.

I think I have twice. I used the computer to text my son for something that wasn't important enough to call him on his work phone... and just to see if it would really work to text that way.

No, I don't even know how. I use my cell phone only for phone calls. Friends my age try to pull me out of the Stone Age. They text all the time, especially to their kids.

I thought I was the only person in the world who does not text. (I do not know how to text nor want to learn) Actually I talk on phones very little. I see by this post that I am in the minority.

Things are moving too fast as it is. Why is everybody in such a hurry?

I don't even have, or want, a cell phone.

There is never a reason that I need to send, or receive an instant message.

Young people are already having trouble with spelling, and writing a complete sentence. They even speak too fast, as do the TV news reporters, while at the same time alerts are scrolling across at the bottom of the screen.

I never texted until I got an iPhone last August. On my old phone it was hard to do and hard to read. It's so easy on the iPhone. So far I haven't deleted any texts and it's fun to go back and read over some of them. My daughter prefers I text her when she is at work. I also like it for just a quick thought or question.

I'm not a huge texter, though, I get 200 a month for $5 and I've never gone over.

I do some texting but not much. Occasionally if I'm traveling and want to send a message of low importance, I'll text someone. Worked well when traveling companions were en route and I wanted to tell them where I'm staying or a suggestion where to meet. I don't like to condone unnecessary cell use while driving. And before you say it, yes these people aren't sick addicts who have to grab the cell and check the text when it comes in. They check it when they stop or at another time, or someone else in the car will check.

Since I get charged 1/3 unit for each text from my phone, I'll only text from the phone when I'm out and feel the need. When at home I text through Yahoo or one of the other free texting places. And if someone wants my number to text me, then I get their number, text through Yahoo and then I don't get charged and if I don't have the problems with them having my number.

I do use it though when I want to send a message, or tell someone to give a call when they have a chance or something like that. A friend works odd hours and I just text and that way if he's sleeping I don't wake him, if he's working, I don't bother him. Then when he has time and the inclination, he'll call. Works great in those circumstances.

I also use text with the guy who shovels my driveway and the ones who mow my lawn. Same situation, we communicate without playing tag as much.
