Oh yes, definitely cut the crust off of a 4 year olds sandwich...I can attest to how they'll respond if you don't!

or maybe even a 13 yr old...oh wait that's mine..oh well he just rips it off...Homemade bread too..which isn't the same kind of crust as store bought..I think it's a habit now..LOL

Oh and beets will make your pee and poo pink...

I have one no crust, and one with crust. One likes it cut like finger sandwiches, the other likes it cut on the diagonal. One is peanut butter with nuts, the other smooth.
Of course these are grandkids and yes! they get it however they want it. This IS Burger King, and you do get it your way!
My kids got whatever I served, like it or lump it. lol

My mom's trick to getting us to eat the crust was to tell us that we wouldn't learn how to whistle. There were four of us kids, I was the only one that still wouldn't eat my crust and I'm the only one that can't whistle!

Another trick mom did to get us to learn how to cut the meat ourselves was to tell us that we wouldn't be able to eat our steak at school if we didn't learn how to cut our own steak - and other meat. We all learned how to cut our own meat before we went to first grade (that's when we went all day way back when.) By the end of first grade, we all knew we'd been duped by our mom. We never had steak or anything else that required a steak knife.

thats always annoyed me when kids don't eat the entire sandwich...but...

did learn to spread the pb and jelly to cover all the way to the crust...and cut into shapes...triangles, squares or rectangles...sometimes that works...

an alternative is sliced apple and let them "dip" into pb...

or crackers...

Mom used to tell us if we wanted curly hair we had to eat the crust! Guess thats why they have flat irons now! LOL

Another good one--if ya didn't wash your ears, potatoes would grow out of them! duh

Donna, my dad told us the same thing. "Eat the crust. It'll make your hair curly."

I never started with cutting the crusts off for my kids, but to tempt grandson, we got out the cookie cutters for shaping his grilled cheese sandwiches.

I was also told it would make your hair curl! But I've always loved crusty bread and Ive got straight hair! They lied to me! lol

Another one here told the crust would make my hair curly. I didn't believe it and now my hair is straight as a poker. And I still don't eat the crust!

I meant to add that it's a good thing she's feeling comfortable enough to have a meltdown. But don't let her think that's the way to get what you want. Kids are geniuses at playing parents. Ah, the other side of parenthood--the one less fun is discipling them.

Thanks for the "New Family" update. You are learning one of the first rules of parenthood....Ya gotta be flexable. (And I don't mean by being double jointed. LOL) Your whole story makes my heart glad.

I got the curly hair story with burnt toast. That was back in the days when we didn't have pop-up toasters.

By the way, if the crayons get forgotten in a pocket and you wash the clothes, and maybe even dry them, rewashing them with baking soda helps remove the crayon. However, it has been so many years ago this happened to me, I don't remember the amount of baking soda - probably half a box at least. My babies are 54, 52 and 50.

My grandchildren eat the bread with the crust (their mother never cut it off), so I guess they don't know the difference.
