I was told, "You should always look in the mirror before making a big decision." It helps you reflect.

A husband went to buy a birthday gift for his wife. Some friends had been invited over that night to celebrate her fortieth, and he wanted to get something special. At the store he spotted some cute little music boxes. One blue one was playing "Happy Birthday". Thinking they were all the same, he chose a red one and had it gift wrapped. Later, at dinner, he gave it to his wife and asked her to open it. When she lifted the lid, out came the tune to "The Old Gray Mare, She Ain't What She Used to Be!"

I LOVE Funs contribution! Our truck just had a lifter go out, which trashed the rod, which trashed the cylinder...2 months before the warranty expired. Someone was looking out for us!

Angela that is SO true. I never saw the fun in a 'toy' that is essentialy a glorified light bulb.

@Rho Dodendron y’all are too young to remember these ovens I guess. They were incredibly hot! My best friend got one when we were in elementary school early 1950’s . We had it in her finished basement and had stirred up a chocolate cake.

We put it in the oven and then mindlessly went out to play. The smoke damage and burned carpet were significant! Her Dad cut off the cord lol.

Even with the new oven in 1963 Easy Bake had 2 - 100 watt incandescent lightbulbs . That is significant heat…350° enough to cook a cake.

Thought you would enjoy this story. @Angela ID

In the 1950s, several popular children's toy ovens featured real electric plugs and actual heating elementsbefore the safer, lightbulb-powered Easy-Bake Oven was introduced in 1963. Because they used true heating elements, these vintage metal stoves could reach intense temperatures—sometimes over 500°F—allowing children to bake real, miniature desserts. [1]Here are the most notable brands and models from that era:Popular 1950s Electric Toy Ovens
- Little Chef: Manufactured as a functioning metal play stove, the Little Chef featured a top burner that heated up quickly and an insulated oven compartment. It came with miniature pots, pans, and formulated baking mixes. [1]
- Little Lady (by Empire Metal): This model was known for its distinct lime green and copper finish. The Little Lady Oven utilized fiberglass insulation and featured double burners on top. While it plugged into the wall to bake real food, its front dials and kitchen timer labels were purely decorative. [1]
- Danby: A compact tin toy range measuring roughly 12" by 12", the Danby Child's Oven came outfitted with signature Bakelite handles and functioning electrical cords.
- Empco: These heavier, rather large metal toy stoves featured bold 1950s color schemes like red-and-black and were built to mimic the look of standard household kitchen ranges
