I'm At the Rummage Sale

Today is Amber's rummage sale. We have had our lunch. They have been busy. I fixed beef and pork barbecue sandwiches, baked spaghetti, green beans, butterscotch and lemon chiffon pie, cucumber salad, apple salad, snickerdoodle cookies and the left overs from last evening.

Last evening I brought over ham and cheese sandwiches, baked beans, potato chips, deviled eggs, cherry pie, peach pie, zucchini and carrot cupcakes and lemon cupcakes. So we have had lots of food.

We did go to a few sales yesterday. I bought lots of the church type cookbooks plus a Taste of Home cookbook. The Taste of Home book was $1.00 and the others were $.50. I am looking forward to reading those. I bought 3 six cup Texas sized muffin pans for $.50, very nice condition. I also bought myself a very nice large Home Interior picture with a very nice frame. It has a herd of horses on it. I think I will hang it in my bedroom. I had to pay $5.00 for it. At the final sale I became the new owner of a handheld Better Crocker electric blender for $2.00.

I also spent $1.50 and bought 3 hard cover novels.

Amber did well also. A very pretty Avon bracelet for $1.50, two very nice calculators for $1.00 each, four pieces of very nice old collectible pottery, $.10 and $.25 each. Haven't looked them up yet possibly old McCoy and maybe something even more collectible. She also got several other things but I can't remember what all.

I got home and started in cooking and getting ready with all the food. So now I am using her laptop while they tend the sale. Oh, I am also puppy sitting.

You have such good luck with rummage sales, I'm so glad for you.
I went to our favourite greenhouse and bought some flower pots that were on a sale, and a little plant with my gift card that DH gave me last year. Hopefully I'll get another one this year! ;-) Mom also gave me some flower pots as an early birthday gift if you remember the thread. Did I say I love flower pots?

I've looked through some recipes and am going to try making homemade granola. I love the cereals, and found one I like that isn't too sweet. So I'm trying my hand at one. Hopefully I'll like it.

Cloudy and cool, so it's a good day to stay in now and cook.

I have been doing laundry and picking up around here. I am getting ready to leave for youngest DD wedding shower. Should be fun!
Glad I did the gift shopping yesterday.....whew. I do not like the mall....too big....

Sorry....but they are cheap, often made in Italy sometimes thinly silver plated but more often not, just made of a metal that takes being cast well. sold as "decorative" items, intended to hand in those spoon displays. Likely they are newly introduced to the jewelry store box, just for storage....or to sell them. The knife has no edge does it? And they probably were not intended to go together....just happen to be sold together.

We usually finds lots of good bargains. If it isn't something we have a use for and it isn't really a good deal we don't get it. Sometimes we have certain things we look for, like things for daughter's pond or for her yard or greenhouse. We both love to read so we get all of our reading material at rummage sales. I always look for sewing things and things for my kitchen that I can use. The main thing is to enjoy and have fun.

I have had experience with it. Generally team fundraising is going to go to the team. Be it you sell ads for the tournament book or you have a bake sale; you generally just can't divide it. If you want to have a garage sale with just some families from the team for money, then do that but don't call it a team fundraiser. The biggest problem is getting the families to agree to get on board. First, you do have to make sure the families want to participate and need the money. You can't assume everyone wants to do something or wants to do a rummage sale but if you get enough help, you should be able to run with it. (You will probably never get 100% participation). To start you need to set an event and date choices (but only give them 2 choices or everyone will be fighting) go with the choice that gets enough votes. Send out an email: Hi all, We are considering hosting a rummage sale to bring in money to help defray costs for the boy's hockey team. I have checked out locations and availible are April 15 or April 23rd. Please email me back by Monday to let me know which date will work best for you (we will go with the date that gets the most votes). Since the money is going to the team we hope to have 100% participation. I will send a signup email later with different shift and work opportunities to divide up the work and help make this sale a success. (When you get responses back, you should be able to tell if your event will be a go or not... you will either get most people emailing you back with a date preferance, or you will get emails saying..."what, the???....we can't do that. Why didn't we vote. We can't help at all, etc....") You should be able to tell from the responses if enough people will be willing to help or not. But you need to organize and lead them if they seem willing. Don't do all the work yourself. If not enough people sign up to help (on your work delegated sign-up sheets), then cancel the event early on. If workers get sick, etc it is up to them to find a replacement, not you. You need to organize and delegate, not do it all -- if others don't want to help, then don't do it.

Came across a couple more bargains... - Target had Old Spice deodorant on clearance. Picked some up before but found a better deal. The clearance price had dropped more (at least 70%) and it was a buy-1-get-1 free. And I had a coupon that I used with it. Also they had Old Spice Body & Hair Wash on clearance for $1.04, and it was BOGOF, plus a free travel size, all three for $1.04. Can I top that? Sure. I bought 3 sets of the body wash and used a $2 off two, and a 75Â¢ off one coupon. So, I got 6 full sized bottles of body & hair wash, 3 travel sized, plus 4 deodorant sticks for $5 and a few coins. Didn't need it right now, but for that price it can sit on the shelf a while. Plus the travel size will save me some room in my travel grooming kit. - Walgreens had Colgate Total toothpaste for $1.99 with a store coupon. I had a $1.50 off coupon so the tube cost me 49Â¢. Can't buy Pepsodent for that! Plus when I checked out, the cashier scanned the coupons and handed me back the mfgr coupon (the $1.50 one)! Well I decided to make another stop there the next day because the others didn't have the $5/doz microfibre cloths, so I picked up another tube of toothpaste for 49Â¢. This time they kept the coupon, but that's fine. -Target also had All Small & Mighty on clearance for $3/btl for the one scent. I knew I had a $1.50 coupon but didn't have it on me at the time and I wanted to try out the All since it has received some good reviews even though it doesn't have enzymes. Long story short, I'm glad I didn't get it in the end. My 36Â¢/btl Tide deal beat that deal! As a side note, I decided to try a couple of the reuseable store bags. 99Â¢ each and I figured they'd work for carrying the jumper cables cheap enough and carry other stuff if I didn't use them as intended. They have the store name on them, but it's small and not objectionable to me. There were a couple other bargains had lately, but don't remember them offhand. I enjoy the clearance aisles! Oh yeah, got Motrin, Tylenol, vitamins and glucosamine on clearance at Walgreens so I stocked up. And these were truly clearance prices. Happy saving folks!

Sounds like you did good. I would love those giant muffin pans. I am always checking the thrift stores when I go for ones. I have lots of other muffin type pans. That's one thing I make a lot of for breakfast. And I also have a ton of cookbooks. Too many, according to DH. LOL!

And you can cook for me anytime. I love all the food you fix!

I love cooking for the kids when they have their rummage sales. I think they are planning another one in about a month. Not sure where they will have it. Either at my husband's business or at Cheryl's house. I will fix them things to eat. The Elwood Glass Festival is going on then so hope they do well.

I think we should crown you the garage sale "QUEEN".. You sure find the best of the bargains. We are having one at our son's in Indy next wekend. They live on a super busy street. They have put out things for free and they are gone in a flash... Should be fun....

Today, I went to Joann's fabric store and got
15 yds. of fleece, 2 yds. of Raven's cotton material,
2 iron transfers for Makayla and Kaden, 2 suncathers to be made
by them also plus a kit to make myself a pocketbook.

I am back home and it was 8:30 before I came home. Izzi is worn out and I think all of us gals are too. I didn't help with the rummage at all as there was plenty of help. There were 11 of us for supper and not too many leftovers. Afterwards we sat out by the pond to rest and then went in to get the kitchen things gathered up and cleaned up. They always have some free stuff too and it gets taken. Tomorrow I have to get my kitchen cleaned back up. Hope I have time to start reading on some of my new cookbooks. One of them is a Paula Deen cookbook. I gave the Roslyn Bakery cook book to Cheryl. I already have one. Terri has one too. I am a bit tired and hope I can rest tonight. Hope all have a good evening.

Sounds like you do keep busy, but happy. I am getting rid of most of my books as I don't do much baking. No one to eat it as DH is on a restricted diet. Getting rid of my receipes also that I have cut out over the years. Just not doing the cooking either.
