Mostly fly US Air, but I'm not crazy about them.

Try this---- just take a small carry-on and pack a box with the rest of wheat you'll need and send it off UPS so it will be there when you get there. Probably cheaper than the airline, and easier, too.

I just go to "travel zoo". I buy whatever's cheap and deal with the luggage latter. :0) I buy 2-3 months in advance, luggage rules could change by then anyway. :0)

kayak.com will compare several airlines for you. Also try cheapflights.com, and hotwire.com. I believe all these sites look for the cheapest flights.

My7 favorite airline is JetBlue.

I also meant to add that I love Southwest. The planes are not the nicest by far, but I love the staff. The attendants are always so funny and nice, they joke around during announcements, etc...and in general always make me laugh. Once I was flying Southwest and toward the end of the flight the pilot came on to say, "we hope you enjoyed flying with us, blah blah blah, and if so, please send your good comments to Southwest Airlines located at.....and if you didn't enjoy your flight with us, please send your complaints to our North office, at Northwest Airlines, located at....". The whole flight was cracking up.

I have flown on most of the major airlines but in the past couple of years have used AirTran...They do charge for the luggage but my flights have always been cheaper with them....
I do pack a small piece of luggage and put it in the overhead and also carry a carry on, that I use for my purse, book, crocheting etc....It is a good idea to send a lot of your things ahead but I'd go postal instead of UPS...Probably save you a lot of money.....

In my case, I visit with a friend in Florida for 6 weeks or so and when I come home, I just leave a bunch of stuff there because I know I'll be back in the Fall....

Southwest almost exclusively. Daggone it - they just had a good special for their 39th anniversary and you missed it.
I get Airfare Watchdog alerts every day and Southwest alerts when they send them. Often AWD has unadvertised specials posted.
Give us a date and the airports and see who can find the cheapest flight.

The baggage rules are locked in the day you buy your ticket so no worries there.

I prefer Air Tran because of being able to do seat assignments.

I'll be leaving on Aug 21 and coming back on Sept 12.Leaving from El Paso Airport and arriving at either Pittsburgh,PA or Baltimore,Maryland.Either one will do.Or even State College,PA.Actually that would be the closest one for someone to pick me up.But it's usally 3 or 4 stops and more expensive.

Taxes add about $40. The flight to/from Pittsburgh would be a little over $300 with taxes.

Because we usually fly out of OHare, we fly United. I have used Southwest from Milwaukee and they are great!

Found a couple of airlines with fares of $320-325 to Pittsburgh, lowest I'm finding for State College is about $520.

On CNN this morning, they reported that the government is looking at all the fees airlines charge - thinking of not permitting a lot of the fees - hope it developes into making the airlines drop some of those charges!

U.S Airways, because normally they are the cheapest, at least during the last two big trips I took. I also signed up for their frequent flyer mile program. Have enough for a free continental U.S. flight now. They have a baggage fee and so I had to pay $25 for one bag going to Hawaii, but only $10 coming back. I guess because the first flight was on Hawaiian Airlines coming back and that is what their fee is.

I used to fly Southwest all the time, love their airlines, cheap and I think they have one of the better safety records. Too bad they don't go everywhere I want to go.

I don't fly a lot. Haven't been on a plane for 10 years. But when I do fly, I look for an airline going to my destination then look at who's cheapest. I'm not adverse to a stop or two to save some money, though a nonstop return flight is nice. I've also gone a different route. For instance when I was going to Tucson, it was much cheaper to go to Phoenix and grab the shuttle to Tucson. Sometimes you can get two one-way tickets cheaper than a round trip ticket too. And I always use one carry-on bag if at all possible. Then I don't have to worry about my luggage going astray.

I think I'm using SouthWest.They are all basically the same price and Southwest doesn't charge for luggage.So it would actually be 50 dollars cheaper than American.I would just take my bag as a carry-on but I already have my C-pap that I have to carry.It doesn't count as a carry-on (it's medical) but I don't want to lug around a suitcase AND my C-pap.

have you considered Harrisburg or Allentown, PA?

airlines made record profits off the checked baggage, they are only just now starting to get back to making $$ after 2 yrs in the hole. they will not be giving up the baggage fee, guaranteed. maybe the pillow & blanket fee lol. really why should they, they need to make $ to stay in biz otherwise we could be left w/ 2 airlines charging whatever they want? people HAVE to fly and those that do will pay what they have to. i have tickets back from the 80's on united when i paid $600 to go from O'Hare to Phoenix on high school spring break, that flight today on SW would be $250 max. you can avoid those baggage fees thru some airlines but they don't fly everywhere, unfortunately.

i mostly fly southwest and do the additional $10 early check in and get an exit seat. BTW UPS has a new shipping service, it is a luggage box to pack your stuff in and send out ahead. on the plus side it runs only around $20-25 depending on route & weight and it comes w/ a tracking #. i already ship my stuff ahead when going to see friends & family or to my place in chicago. makes for light travelling ~ liz
