My sons birthday cake

I spent many hours preparing for and putting this cake together for Grant's 5th birthday and thought I'd share. It was a challenge to do but in the end, it came together and Grant loved it. It had working headlights and flashing lights on top. As I cut into it yesterday, everyone was cringing...all that work only to be slashed by a knife! Maybe I should've displayed it on my mantle for awhile! LOL

IMHO-Asking for money is not very well received. My DS was invited to a party last year that was worded"in lieu of gifts please give money. Sammy is trying to buy a pool table". And from a practicality stand point it makes sense (I have 10 unopened Barbies in the closet from DD various parties) But that was all the moms were whispering about at the party. Several gave gifts and money because their children wanted to pick out a gift. We have gone to 2 parties that had gifts for charity. One was a little girl DD is friends with who is an animal lover and asked for dog food and items for the local animal shelter. ((Huge Hit!!)) Another brought gifts to give kids at a children's hospital. Good Luck!

Thank you, ssommerville, NancyLouise and cynic! NancyLouise, the movie was very fun and I can't for it to be released on DVD. The trailer for the movie I posted, isn't the best acted or highly recommended film of all time, but I love the music and it never fails to entertain me :-). My favorite characters from the new Oz movie were The Wicked Witches, especially Theodora (Wicked Witch Of The West). Cynic, I bought the Director's Cut of Little Shop Of Horrors a month or so ago and I love how true to the musical it is. Our day yesterday was a lot of fun and the food at Red Lobster was fantastic as always :-). Dad and I didn't have room for dessert, but we enjoyed it very much. I haven't been cooking anything special lately or used my new skillets yet, but, I was texting my one best friend and former high school classmate yesterday and she and I made plans for a picnic sometime soon. We have to work out the details (like what food we want to make, if we just want it for us or to bring a few friends along), but we know we want to make some sangria at least lol. I think she'll like the idea of inviting a few people along, but, like I said, she and I have to work on it. Thank you again, everyone, and Happy Easter. Brad AKA Moonwolf

((Thanks)) everyone...he really loved it! First thing he did was take a photo and put it on his phone LOL! I appreciate all the kind wishes and hope to be celebrating more years in the future. One of the residents here at the retirement community where I live celebrated her 100th birthday on June 11th. Several of my friends here are 90 and above. The younger retirees here look like youngsters! My birthday fest was great, in spite of a down pour as we were finishing up. You can see my family does not do 'fancy.' We were gathered under a huge patio umbrella in the backyard, with paper cups and plates, where we enjoyed a scrumptious picnic dinner (none of which I had to prepare.) The two well trained dogs came to say hello, and then went off to nap. Even one of the ferrets poked his head out for a minute. The cat stayed in the house. Patti, yes it has been a while since I posted any pics of her cakes and cup cakes. My 6 year old PC went into a decline several months ago, and Photobucket was making a lot of changes and I gave up trying to get anything to work. Now I have a new PC, WIN7, and still trying to get it 'trained.' She has added brownies, creme puffs and gluten free cupcakes to the menu, and still does some weddings. No you were right to eat it. You have photos to remember how great it was!

You are enjoying your children so much. I remember fondly those years of pirate birthday parties and then on to elementary with the school programs, etc. I took so much pleasure in my kids, and still do even tho' I'm a grandma. It is so satisfying to watch the children learn and grow.

How cool is that. I think you could have a new business. Happy birthday, Grant! I, too, cannot believe he's five already. Time flies, enjoy these years. It seems only yesterday my Teddy was 5, and he's almost 21 now.

One lucky little boy to have you for a mommy. I love that cake, can't imagine the time put into it. How did you do working lights?

Now we want a picture of him eating it.

The headlights were just little lights that are supposed to be stuck inside balloons. The flashing red lights for the top of the truck are from some website that sells all kinds of flashing blinkie lights for various purposes.

Here's a couple pictures of him with the cake. I don't have one of him eating any!

Unbelievably gorgeous cake-I thought it was "just" a toy in the first pic. You did a great job-glad you have photos to remember it. And I do NOT believe Grant is five.

WOW...I'm impressed. I would have hated to cut it. Hope it TASTED even a fraction of how good it LOOKED. Do you sell cakes via the internet????

What a wonderful job!! I wish you were closer I would so hire you to help with my daughters wedding! The grooms cake is going to be a fire truck with the ladder extending up to her cake. I love the cake pop also!

It will depend on what his interests are next year.. A Sugestion why not take photos along the way of different stages of construction. Someday you can write a how to book and we can all buy one and say We knew her when !!!!!

I have a few photos of it along the way but my problem is, I'm so into what I'm doing, I forget to take photos. I just focus and keep going. I have some pics of it when it was being frosted though, before the fondant and decorations!

What an amazing labor of love, Steph! There's no way you could ever do something like this for money, there are SO many hours invested, especially if you're not a professional with staff. No one is going to pay you the $800+ that cake is probably worth, not to mention the pops, too.

Gorgeous work! Grant's pretty great, too! :)
