My Birthday Cake

My 4 year old granddaughter told her mommie that Grandma wanted a Barbie cake. A strawberry Barbie cake I got!!! Also a yummy chocolate cake! A wonderful day with all the kids.

Good luck with that mixed basket Brad. And hope you had a great Birthday week. I actually moved some of my cold growing hoyas outside for me the summer barring no freak weather. Actually just Polyneura and some of my Carnosa. I am considering moving my Linearis out for the spring/summer at this me too. I may wait for Tuesday evening to pass since the temps will dip that night into the upper 30's but will be back up to the 60's in the day. I would suspect these Hoyas see temps in the 30's at times in habitat. I will be sure to keep them dry in the meantime. Your cake looked great by the way. -David

Thank you, ssommerville, NancyLouise and cynic! NancyLouise, the movie was very fun and I can't for it to be released on DVD. The trailer for the movie I posted, isn't the best acted or highly recommended film of all time, but I love the music and it never fails to entertain me :-). My favorite characters from the new Oz movie were The Wicked Witches, especially Theodora (Wicked Witch Of The West). Cynic, I bought the Director's Cut of Little Shop Of Horrors a month or so ago and I love how true to the musical it is. Our day yesterday was a lot of fun and the food at Red Lobster was fantastic as always :-). Dad and I didn't have room for dessert, but we enjoyed it very much. I haven't been cooking anything special lately or used my new skillets yet, but, I was texting my one best friend and former high school classmate yesterday and she and I made plans for a picnic sometime soon. We have to work out the details (like what food we want to make, if we just want it for us or to bring a few friends along), but we know we want to make some sangria at least lol. I think she'll like the idea of inviting a few people along, but, like I said, she and I have to work on it. Thank you again, everyone, and Happy Easter. Brad AKA Moonwolf

Oh, that would have been good! I saw this after mixing the cake, though. It's in the oven now. The strawberries were very unripe: I used the less ripe ones to chop and put in the batter, but it sure won't be getting much flavor from those. I have never paid so much for such anemic berries. I saved the best ones to slice up. She won't get here til after 10 pm, I'm guessing we will serve the cake tomorrow, when more pople will be home. At this point, I will be happy if I can get it out of the pan in one piece. I had forgotten that my pan is not a typical bundt shape, but a very fluted design. Pretty pan but a devil to unmold. I appreciate all the kind wishes and hope to be celebrating more years in the future. One of the residents here at the retirement community where I live celebrated her 100th birthday on June 11th. Several of my friends here are 90 and above. The younger retirees here look like youngsters! My birthday fest was great, in spite of a down pour as we were finishing up. You can see my family does not do 'fancy.' We were gathered under a huge patio umbrella in the backyard, with paper cups and plates, where we enjoyed a scrumptious picnic dinner (none of which I had to prepare.) The two well trained dogs came to say hello, and then went off to nap. Even one of the ferrets poked his head out for a minute. The cat stayed in the house. Patti, yes it has been a while since I posted any pics of her cakes and cup cakes. My 6 year old PC went into a decline several months ago, and Photobucket was making a lot of changes and I gave up trying to get anything to work. Now I have a new PC, WIN7, and still trying to get it 'trained.' She has added brownies, creme puffs and gluten free cupcakes to the menu, and still does some weddings. How precious it is. I bet it was delicious too. You have a very special granddaughter but I'm sure you already knew that. Hope your birthday was very special and that you enjoyed it as much as you did the cake.

My daughter baked the skirt part in the large Pamered Chef mixing bowl. Then a single layer cake on the bottom. She cut a hole down through the center. She wrapped the doll body in plastic wrap. Our grocery has one on display to make for $35.00. Sure enjoyed it with the granddaughters. They thought it was the best thing ever

I made one for my granddaughter the same way Susie said. I didn't use a real barbie doll as I didn't want to ruin the doll. But used a dollar store version and I also made her a court of 5 dolls too. The were made from a large muffin tin. It was so much fun and she loved it and so did her cousins that were there too. I just put the heads only after the cakes or muffins were baked. It was much cheaper than having it made.

I haven't seen one of those in many a year. I used to make them when my DD was growing up (She is 58). I bought the 'tube' like thing that you put the doll into and used it for many years too. Good job, your cake was beautiful.
