My Birthday Cakes

Yesterday was my birthday. My DGD, the cupcake girl, decided that one ordinary cake wasn't enough, so she made me two. One is Chocolate Peanut Butter, the other is Peach Shortcake, each one is 4 layers.

I know most folks don't like to admit their age, but I am very happy to be 89!!

And like some of you, it is also my wedding anniversary date. How I wish my DH could still be here to celebrate with us.

Happy belated 89th birthday and may you have many more. Those cakes look delicious. I think your granddaughter loves you very much to make you two cakes. She did a great job on them.

My daughter didn't make the cake she ordered it delivered from 1-800-flowers. I felt so stupid when they delivered it because I thought it was a real cake. I was all ready to have a piece of cake!The delivery woman took it out of the box and it was in a cake box. How was I to know? We both laughed at my eagerness.

Oh, that would have been good! I saw this after mixing the cake, though. It's in the oven now. The strawberries were very unripe: I used the less ripe ones to chop and put in the batter, but it sure won't be getting much flavor from those. I have never paid so much for such anemic berries. I saved the best ones to slice up. She won't get here til after 10 pm, I'm guessing we will serve the cake tomorrow, when more pople will be home. At this point, I will be happy if I can get it out of the pan in one piece. I had forgotten that my pan is not a typical bundt shape, but a very fluted design. Pretty pan but a devil to unmold. I know that but it's no fun to see her drag her kids into it. I'd love to grab her, shake her or pound her head against a wall and yell "look what you are doing to your kids!!" " Don't you care????" and I know that I can't. Her relationship with her kids is her business but it doesn't make it any easier to watch. If she had called me, that's one thing. But, she involves SD by asking me through her daughter and she does that a lot. She's also got SD very excited about the wedding and SD brings it up frequently. I could be wrong, but I believe she has created a fantasy in SD's mind that everything will be wonderful when she marries BF... they'll be a family & she can go live there with them, etc. but that isn't going to happen. The craziest part of all, she HATES when SD and I get along. (more insecurity about that) but the more she ignores SD, as time goes on, SD turns to me more & more. I not only spend more time with SD, but I talk to her, I listen to her and even though she has an attitude with me, she knows she can count on me when she needs me. As she is realizing that, she has less attitude with me and we are actually becoming closer because of the way BM treats her. That only upsets BM even more, but instead of giving SD more attention, she has chosen to give less time & attention. It's really sad all the way around. I've also noticed other things she does to mimic our (DH & me) life. We ride ATV's, she went out & bought new ATV's for everyone last Christmas. We went to San Francisco for a weekend, she was going to do the same. We have an SUV, she went out and bought an SUV as soon as she moved there, even though her BF has a mini van that would accommodate all of them. She already had a new truck that her mom repossessed a few weeks ago. We've gone on a few cruises & now she's talked of wanting to take a family cruise. It's really humorous at times. She has no job, her BF's motorcycle & his kids dirt bikes were repossessed, her mom took back the truck she signed for because BM wasn't making the payments, they are about to be evicted & she can't or won't pay the $216 a month in support or any of the medical bills, but she is planning a grand wedding & all these trips. I think it's all in her head & she wants to create an illusion that she has a perfectly wonderful life. I'm not sure if she sees reality slapping her in the face... or if she just pretends it isn't happening. It will go away?

wow you beat me on the cakes! they are beautiful and I bet tasty. I don't find many people besides myself that got married on their birthday, interesting your's was one day after mine. I am really sorry your DH is not here to share it with you also. I hope you had a wonderful day.
I had a piece of keylime cheesecake for my birthday that was more than enough and wonderfully home made.

Happy Birthday, Sue. Better late than never, as they say. Those cakes look amazing. I remember some time back you would post pictures of her beautiful cakes. Did she go into the bakery business? How lucky can a grandmother get?? Glad it was such a nice day for you.

Happy Day when mom turned 88 I had them put "Eighty-eight Ain't she great" on the cake and when 89 "Eighty - nine- aint she fine !!" the gals in the bakery thought this was so great they didn't charge me.

Happy Belated Birthday and Happy Anniversary. I'm sorry your DH isn't with you anymore. Must be bittersweet. Big high five for 89! That's awesome.

I appreciate all the kind wishes and hope to be celebrating more years in the future. One of the residents here at the retirement community where I live celebrated her 100th birthday on June 11th. Several of my friends here are 90 and above. The younger retirees here look like youngsters!

My birthday fest was great, in spite of a down pour as we were finishing up. You can see my family does not do 'fancy.' We were gathered under a huge patio umbrella in the backyard, with paper cups and plates, where we enjoyed a scrumptious picnic dinner (none of which I had to prepare.) The two well trained dogs came to say hello, and then went off to nap. Even one of the ferrets poked his head out for a minute. The cat stayed in the house.

Patti, yes it has been a while since I posted any pics of her cakes and cup cakes. My 6 year old PC went into a decline several months ago, and Photobucket was making a lot of changes and I gave up trying to get anything to work. Now I have a new PC, WIN7, and still trying to get it 'trained.'

She has added brownies, creme puffs and gluten free cupcakes to the menu, and still does some weddings.

A belated Happy Birthday to your , Sue. The cakes look wonderful, as usual. Hope it was a wonderful celebration and I would be proud to say I'm 89, too. Heck, I'm proud to say I'm 75!
