I have tried the above (washing machine, bleach and vinegar) with mixed results, but did not try the dryer, fearing a meltdown. I have heavy-duty plastic liners and they came out wrinkled and spotted last time I did this even though I hung them right away. The machine is currently whirring away with hot water (last time I used warm) and I put it on XL load, figuring maybe it didn't all rinse last time?. Am going to use a low heat setting on the dryer for a few minutes to see what happens. I also threw in some dingy dishrags to see if that will scrub the crud off. They were looking REALLY gross, with colored mold growing on the long one hung in the shower that gets multiple uses every day. Like xantippe I am also in the Pacific Northwest, so am interested in going to Fred Meyer or BB&B to see if those mold/mildew resistant ones might be on Back-to-School sales still? Possibly worth the investment? I hate the cheap dollar store ones, but am also too stingy to buy fabric ones now since we are moving in a year to a place with glass doors in the bathrooms. Might try albert_135's idea of lining them with a curtain, though to cut down on cleaning them. Thanks so much everyone for their advise... Will re-post with my results :)

Thanks, my dreamhome! We do get those pink stains on the plastic liners so I'll watch for them on the cloth one. We bought a suspension rod to help us figure out at what height we want to hang the curved rod. I'll keep your comment about length of liner in mind as we figure that out and make sure I have enough inches to spare. I searched in this forum for answers before posting, assuming this was the right place to ask my question. After I posted, I did a Google search and learned that I could have found my answers with a search in the Cleaning Tips forum. I think I'll stick with the cloth liner for our 2nd bath but I'm going to try the tips for machine washing plastic liners for my oldest son's icky plastic shower liner that he brought home from college. I think think it may be for a 3' long shower; most curtains and liners are 6' long. I simply take scissors to the liner and carefully cut them in half, which also means each one lasts twice as long as I later replace the first half with the second. Judiegal, I ordered that rod and it is sitting in the garage. Had seen them at Bed Bath & Beyond, but thought I was getting one similar to what I used to have when I ordered. It might work, will have to play with it when they finish the tile. If you put the two curtains through the same hooks then you would have a place to hang towels. I have wondered about the curved rod. The area for the curtain is pretty close. Will look into that. My GD had one and loved it. The old one I have would be perfect but it is a dainty filigree design. I bet it is at least 25 years old which would not matter, but it doesn't go with the tile too well. Thanks for all the replies.
