Wouldn't this be a blast to have this kind of wedding???

It put a heck of a smile on my face.

WOW--that was fantastic. I have the same smile, I bet.

It took a lot of nerve to even plan that, much less execute it. Plus you have to have attendants who are all willing (and able) to do it. But what fun!!

200+ year Wedding Shawl/Piano Shawl

silk can be taffeta, satin or all sorts of things. Figure out who Grandma Giordano was....and when she was married. 200 years ago would be 1811....that's a long time!! I gather by the name, Giordano, she was Italian and a wedding shawl was an "Italian thing".... Piano shawls were mainly 2 different kinds....those that were fringed on 3 sides for the old Victorian Square Pianos, and triangular fringed on all sides for the standard "grand piano shape"...people didn't use piano shawls for a wedding shawl!! LOL! If you believe your grandfather, this is a shawl your grandmother used for her wedding....can you imagine how elegant she must have looked wrapped in that silk shawl with the fringe? The only thing I am wondering about is the age....I would say perhaps 1880 at the earliest....and perhaps 30 to 40 years later. It's fabulous...have it professionally cared for and stored in an archival container. Linda C

DS's wedding cake

The cake was plain white with chocolate mousse between layers. The wedding colors were actually champaign and burgundy, but they wanted "his" cake. Not only were the cupcakes easier to eat, but they were way cheaper too! And yes they were real. The bakery that made them has been voted best bakery in the US, especially for Pazcki's (pronounced poonchki's for those of you who are not Polish), which are a type of Polish donut that is filled with various traditional flavors such as prune, rose, apricot, and I forget what else. I like the plain ones. This is where DS works now. When he was taking Baking and Pastry in high school, this is the bakery he dreamed of working in. They did an awesome job, and the boss himself did the delivery and set up! Thanks for the congrats Tami

Starting my kitchen reno and would love layout help!

I am not good at drawing on the computer, so I will try to explain my idea. I would put the banquette along the other side of the outer wall - where the pantry is. With a built-in bench under the window and chairs on the other side of a rectangular table. I would use the entire right side of the room with cabinetry in a U shape - no peninsula. Perhaps a small island if there is room. You could do the full height pantry where you currently have the sink and DW drawn. Or desk there with pantry beside it. Possibly put the fridge beside the pantry, so all of your full-height stuff is on the same wall. You could put the sink between the pair of windows and the range centered along the right wall. That would leave room for floating shelves flanking the range. There would likely still be room for a small island - not with seating, however, in the center of the "u". It may be useful for prep. If you are thinking of having kids, then pay close attention to the swing of the refrigerator and what is blocked when it is opened. My kids peruse the goods often thus blocking the only entrance in and out of our kitchen. Also stick with table or counter height seating, bar height doesn't work well for kids until they are almost adult sized... like 10 or 11. Best wishes! I look forward to seeing your plans.

Hurricane rebuild - design help needed (long)
Q
Comments (4)
It is difficult to remodel when you have had months or years to plan, shop, and assemble your idea books. What happened to you with hurricane damage is so beyond the mind’s comprehension and the heart’s break. You have to make these thousand decisions without any preparation. First, take a deep breath and be good to yourself. Your decisions are fast and furious at a time when you are truly in mourning- for your past lifestyle, your precious lost things, and the devastation around you. To those who have suffered a fire or a tornado, I am not trying to lessen your real loss. However, a hurricane turns your entire town, your job, your neighbors’ lives upside down and a great support system is lost. It is almost impossible to drive anywhere for weeks because all the landmarks are gone, the street signs missing, and neighbors moved to unknown locations. But for now, be good to yourself. Know that you will make some mistakes, but this forum is full of people who have planned a remodel for months and still have the same doubts and second-guessing you do! None of these decisions are life and death. Just get this finished and start making new memories with your family in your “new”home. For the record, some of my neighbors had blue tarp roofs for two years. It takes time.

Wow, wonderful to see so many happy, healthy, fit young people. Obviously took a lot of rehearsal. And two things I noticed-a woman minister, and no father to give the bride away.

I'm smiling through my tears- that was just amazing. Can you imagine what the dancing at the reception looked like if that's how that entered the church. That's great that they were able to pull it off.

The song was what did it for me. "We've only got one life."

I'm a sucker for a traditional wedding (one of the only places where I am traditional), but this was wonderful.

What fun!!That will never be forgotten. I want to go the reception, must have been quite a arty.

Wonder what their kids will think of this when they show them the video 10 years from now! They're cool or how embarrassing?

WOW....you'd think with all that dancing....those guys would have been a little slimmer....

I hope they all had on a good supply of deodorant....LOL

I'll bet they have a fun marriage...Hope it lasts forever.

I saw the video 2 days ago, loved it.

A woman minister.....not that unusual, a woman clergy officiated at my wedding in 1990 (I've since divorced).

No father to give the bride away, also not unusual. That practice is dying out, my sister got married in 1992 and walked down the aisle alone even though our father attended the wedding.

I never really liked that practice anyway.....treating women as possessions that you can "give away".

That was a really nice video. Its nice to see wedding go back to tradition and include dancing. I loved the bridesmaids outfits. Very pretty colors and style, with lovely bouquets. It is the first time I've seen a wedding where the bridesmaids weren't tottering in high heels. I was just at a wedding last weekend and as expected, halfway through the reception almost all the bridesmaids had their shoes off and were walking around barefoot because their feet hurt so bad or they had developed blisters.

If I had done that we would have been clearing out the church for a double funeral. My parents would have had a heart attack!

The couple were on the Today show this morning. They said there was very little rehearsing. The whole gang of them will be on Today show tomorrow (I think that's what they said.) Does Today have a Saturday show? I loved it!

In the comments on YouTube it was said that the bride was a professional dancer so I am assuming that many of the couples friends were also professional dancers. They would not have to rehearse much. They probably gave tips to those who were not pros, during the rehearsals.

I could not believe all the negative comments posted on YouTube. Why would somebody get upset over somebody else's wedding?

Thanks to Patti for the heads-up -- I watched the story about it on the Today show. The couple seem very nice. They were quite surprised at all the attention, since the video was just posted for the benefit of friends and family.

I love when the father gives the bride away. It may be rooted in old fashioned thinking, but I like the message:

This is our beloved daughter, and today her mother and I pass her care and protection from us to you for the rest of her life. To me, that part of the ceremony sends an important message.

I've already watched that twice.

Our pool lifeguard had an unusual wedding. Bet if he had seen this he would have had one just like it.

Adorable!
