DH is in hospital -- again

He wasn't feeling well on Tues. having trouble breathing and his legs were hurting really bad ( he's had several heart surgery's in the last three years ) so called cardiologist who wanted to see him right away. Was admitted to hospital with in ten minutes of doc visit. His potassium was so low they said, if we'd waited a couple more days they don't know if they could have saved him. On top of that his hemoglobin was only 7.2 not good. Now after all the potassium iv's and blood transfusion we're waiting to see if he'll come home later today or we watch the fire works from the sixth floor of the hospital.

Sorry that you have this worry. Sending good thoughts that all is well today and that your DH can get home to watch fireworks.

Patches, I know how frightening it can be to have those drops. I'm glad he went to the hospital right away to correct it.
It would be wonderful if he could go home, but if he's on the 6th floor at least you'll be in a good spot to see the fireworks. Blessings to both of you.

Yes Chem treatments are very expensive and hard both on the person and the family. Our cancer center offers a variety help courses. Financial, support groups, monthly meeting, etc. You need outside interests beside school. Sounds like you have been a caretaker alot. What hobbies have you developed, do you belong and participate in any churches, organizations. Even if you took your daughter occasionally to meetings etc that would help. But you and your family must learn to be more positive etc. We have been dealing with cancer for 3 years, now in remission, and I refuse to let it or my family to control me. We work together. I have hobbies, belong to 3 different groups, have offices and keep busy. Yes I get upset and depressed, but not for long. Yes we do things together, and he cannot do much, but what he can do we try to do together, or with other people. We do not let cancer control us.

Is there no family you could move in with for a short while? I don't meant to pry, I just am concerned about your housing predicament. Coupled with your health concerns, you are under quite a lot of stress. You need to heal & recover. True, thank goodness, you dodged a bullet this time, but your little body (& soul) has been through a lot Threedgrad! If family is not an option, could you contact that helpful social worker again? You need to be guided to some long-term resources. You can't keep wondering where your next home is going to be & fully recover at the same time. I know you are a hard worker, and you want to be independent, but there is a season to lean on others, too! Please contact some of the helpers in your community. There has to be some kind of assistance for you in your area. Keep us posted!

Sound like what happened to my DH a couple years ago. They called it a gut infection but had no idea where it came from. He spent 2 months in a rest home with 24 hr iv's.It was what they had to do-Several people seem to be getting something like that, but they seem to know a little more about treating it now. He did have some side effects from the very strong consistant anti-biotic-but is almost back to normal now. Good Luck. It is scary

Patches, first, you both have my prayers. Secondly, ask if there is a dr in the area that can do radio frequency ablations. I didn't go back to your page to see where you are. I know that my mom is a diabetic, with many other health problems. She developed a mass on/in one kidney three years ago. Instead of having to remove the kidney, one of her urologists sent her to metro health hospital in Cleveland, OH for this procedure. Instead of only having one remaining kidney to rely on, she still has use of half of the one with the mass, plus the healthy kidney! They kept her over night due to her other health issues, but it is a simple procedure, that many people go home the same day. Very uninvasive, with only one or two small incisions. I don't know if they would do it for the stones but it would work for the cyst. It was/is considered experimental for kidneys, but is approved for liver cancer. Her dr said it would be great for small areas of breast cancer also. It doesn't work for large areas, but is wonderful for small areas. We can't say enough good stuff about this procedure. Good judgment, taking fast action in calling the doctor and getting to the hospital, saved the day!

You are showing "grace under fire," so don't forget to be kind to yourself - maybe a nice cup of tea and some shoulder rolls to get the kinks out?

My best thoughts go out to you and I hope you and your DH have a lovely 4th of July fireworks celebration!

I hope he's up and around soon. My DH was in the hospital for almost 2 weeks in January - definitely not a fun place to be.
