Google Toolbar Withdrawal

"Hello, my name is Oldrustybucket and I am a Googleholic...." Seems like getting things back in order will take more than a 12 step program! I've been having lots of "computer headaches" lately centered around IE programs. It's been a try this - try that situation, finally (at the moment) after giving in to download IE 8, it is running OK,,,but I miss my Google Toolbar so badly...makes me all thumbs trying to "get around" without it. But, my ISP provider (counselor) advises "those type of toolbars can really cause problems and need to be avoided"...

So for the moment, I'm being strong and staying with the "program"...NO Google toolbar installation...

I can stay "sober"...gOogLe...GoogLe...withdrawal..Yikes, I'm beginning to hear voices!

ORB - I use IE8 and the Google Toolbar with no issues.

I would say that about some toolbars - but not the Google one. I love the popup stopper and spell check and having the search bar close.

I also have found that the tech support at an ISP isn't always right - far from it!

Go for it - use the toolbar :)

On IE 8, I have a problem in that it says every time that I don't want Windows Live Search (and I don't) as my default search engine. I guess Microsoft figures if you want something else, they will make life miserable for you. It takes forever to load.
So I just use Mozilla, and my Google toolbar, too!

These are the instructions form link I posted above for IE, Step 1: Enable add-ons Click the Internet Explorer Tools menu, or press Alt-T on your keyboard. Select Manage Add-ons. If Google Toolbar, Google Toolbar Helper, or Google Toolbar Notifier BHO is disabled, select each add-on and click Enable. Click Close. Step 2: Enable the Toolbar in the "View" menu Click the Internet Explorer View menu, or press Alt-V on your keyboard. Select Toolbars. If Google Toolbar doesn't have a checkmark beside it, select Google Toolbar. Step 3: Reset Internet Explorer settings Click the Internet Explorer Tools menu, or press Alt-T on your keyboard. Select Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, click Reset. Select the "Delete personal settings" checkbox. Click Reset. If you still don't see the Toolbar, try the steps above again to re-enable add-ons and the Toolbar.

on which browser? IE? firefox? Version? Please provide needed info when asking questions so we know what we are working with. try clicking on View at the top then toolbars and see if it is checked to appear. have you tried rebooting to see if it reappears?

I found the troubleshooting page on Google. I had to unlock the toolbar and pull over Google. It was hidden. These pesky problems are so annoying. Thanks.

Firefox 2.0.0.6 and Yahoo Toolbar/Java

As Firefox now seems to come with the Google toolbar why would you want Yahoo? Just curious of course. I do not allow any of those toolbars to clutter up my valuable viewing space. I drag the space where I type my Google query up to the right of the address bar and leave the rest of the toolbar off entirely. This space also has a small drop down menu to the left of it offering my the option to use Google, Yahoo and 4 other features if I need. Regarding the Jave Console I do not have one but I do have Java installed.

I love my Yahoo toolbar. I have my Mail, Groups and Google there as quick buttons.

I had the same problem. Drove me NUTS. Anyway, my
son installed Firefox as an alternate browser. Now
I switch back and forth as needed. But if I want to
GOOGLE.....I use Firefox.

Joan_mn, to use Google as your default search engine without the Windows Live Search nag, go to Tools, Internet Options, and go to Search "Settings". Choose Google to be your default, and check the box that says "prevent programs from suggesting changes to you search provider"

I've tried these toolbars years ago but never saw the attraction. I like maximum space visible and having a bunch of toolbars blocks the view. What am I missing on these things? For search (with Opera), I just enter g then the search term and hit enter, or on a new page there's also a search box. For frequented sites, I use links on my homepage and I use Yahoo Instant Messenger and Trillian that monitor my mail accounts. I only have one toolbar exposed at the top and I customized it with the buttons most popular for me and I have the scrollbar at the bottom so I get a nice big screenview.

I guess I'm either missing something or.... well anyway, I don't get it.
