The new version of Spywareblaster does not offer the opportunity to install or not install any toolbars. When you go looking for updates the program tells you to click the link taking you to their web site to download the new version. Be sure to look for updates once installed. Also if you are not willing to pay for the program be sure to click to do manual updates and the the automatic update option.

I am not getting these follow-up posts emailed to me even though i checked to have emails sent - so I didn't know there was more. I hope they keep supporting version 3 - since we have 5 xp computers between home and work. I do have FF4 on dd's laptop - but not quite sure how it's going for her. She said she didn't like it - and I offered to try above suggestions to make it appear more like she's familiar with. She wants me to in theory - but in reality never wants to hand over the computer to have me do it. When I have more leisure to try again, am I recalling correctly that I can have 2 firefoxes installed - one version 3, and one version 4? And I can use xmarks to sync bookmarks, etc. That way I can get used to ff4 - but go back to 3 for the times I need things to go smoothly and not tinker? that does come as an addon so go into the area where you have addons listed and try removing it from there. I don't use chrome, but in firefox it is under tools>addons. Do you know when you installed it if it was recent your best bet with this stubborn thing might be to do a simple system restore to the day before you installed it. any time you ask for help please tell us which version of windows you are using and the versions of the browsers since those will require different instructions. If you need instructions for doing a system restore we need to know your windows version. I would also run an updated malwarebytes free scan because that thing is often associated with malware. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (Win) - Detecting and Removing Malware and superantispyware SUPERAntiSpyware. as I said this thing is notorious for linking with known malware, this is one statement I found "We found that the software has certain suspicious behavior such as downloading malicious codes, installing toolbar with users� acknowledgement as well as changing homepage." Running malwarebytes and superantispyware should take care of it but if not let us know.

I haven't found the ideal program for me as yet. When I want the temp in the tray, I usually use Weather Watcher or sometimes Weather Pulse. Weather Exchange has this feature too and is a good program with a lot of info. I didn't like Weatherbug or the Weather Channel one but they have the tray icon. I've tried so many different programs, I can't name them all. I use different things at different times. I understand the rants about a lean machine but I also have my computer for function so I do run several apps that I use a lot. If I was that worried about it, I'd get off the computer. I do however replace a lot of Microsoft's hog apps with functional ones. I use Smartclock and I run Opera as it's so much faster than the Internet Elephant. I use Spywareblaster and I keep a firewall going and have antivirus and spyware checks done frequently to keep a clean machine. I check the disk, defrag and clean out old files on a semi-regular basis. I also run a reminder program, a notebook program, caller ID and have my email checked every so often. I often run an instant messenger since I use it and occasionally I'll stream some audio while I'm working on it. Like I said, my computer is to be used, not looked at so I do keep it respectably clean but I'm not scared to run the programs and things that serve me. I don't get into all the cutesy things some do but I use a wallpaper and color scheme I like and also bootscreens that aren't obnoxious. It comes down to personal priorities. For me, weather is a hobby, but more importantly it's important to keep up on it for work and for my own health and well being. I like to keep up on the weather and there's several ways of doing it. Firefox has several very good add-ons (formerly called "extensions") and I've tried all that I've found. Weatherbug doesn't give me the info I want. One uses AccuWeather that is less accurate than others; One uses Weather.com which is better but I like some of the features of some of them so for a while I ran 3 or 4 of them to see which I liked the best. I quit running the Weather Watcher in the background except on rare occasion and have the add-on for it on Firefox now, but I don't use Firefox often. I have a homepage set up with lots of weather info so I usually just go there and refresh the page for the current conditions or I might even open up a "bug" and have that page update automatically every 15 min or so and I can check that. I also have a page set up with temps for all around me and I'll update that occasionally and use that when I want to watch a front move through or something. Much depends on what I want. There's lots of options. Actually, when I set up a new machine, especially for myself, there's a LOT of changes and tweaks done to it to make it serviceable to me. And I usually do a lot of changes on computers I set up for others too. Saves me a lot of time in the long run since I don't have to consult with them on all their viruses, malware and other problems because they don't maintain their units. But that's another thread!
