If it rotates, it would be a tumbler, perhaps homemade, perhaps not. I used a tumbler for two years, then gave it up. I found a simple mesh bin to be much cheaper, held more, was easier on my back, etc. There are a number of threads in this forum on the subject of tumblers. If you have not previously had a outside composter, I would either start with a simple bin, or try a bin and the tumbler (if that is what it is) at the same time for a comparison.

Arosegirl, a bit late in answering, just logged on and your post...caught-my-eye...(No pun intended?)... I mentioned this...home remedy?...in a post on another forum some time ago. Several years ago, I woke up with my eyes hurting and lashes almost stuck together...rushed to the mirror and saw (Yuck!) white pus...so much of it I could literally push it out...gross...I was always healthy, so didn't know what was happening...No doctor to see on a Sunday...I called a drugstore and explained to a pharmacist about my eyes...He told me it was an infection...asked if I had any baby shampoo...I did, Johnson&Johnson...He said that it didn't really matter what brand...He said to mix one teaspoon of baby shampoo in a half a cup of barely warm water,hold eye open and gently splash the liquid in the eyes. He said that baby shampoo contained the same ingredients that a doctor uses to wash-out infected eyes. I had a glass with a small opening (similiar to a shot glass)...it "cupped" my eye...tilted my head back and poured it in...I've never been able to use eye drops because I could not stand the thought of anything touching my eyes...but, if you're in misery... There was some relief right away...a few hours later, I repeated the rinse. It released so much 'infection'...by the next day, it seemed cleared-up. I didn't see a doctor. Later, when my daughter got trash in her eyes from her job, and it irritated her eyes, I mixed up the baby shampoo and water...and she got relief right away. We have two outside cats...one got in a squabble with a stray cat and his eyes got infected...I poured the same mixture in/over his eyes and it cleared that up. Diluted, baby shampoo cannot hurt you, as far as I know. Nope, husbands don't ask the so-called-experts...they expect the wife to know everything..ha

When I was in school, I think I shampooed 2 or 3 times a week. I had great hair. When I left home and got into the workforce, I found I needed to shower more often because I was a waitress and smelled like food. With showering more often, came shampooing more often. When I had my 3rd baby and became a stay at home mom, I didn't wash my hair as often. Who has time to shower and shampoo daily? Then back to the workforce I went. I went back to washing daily whether it needed it or not. I've always known it was hard on the hair. My hair did thin quite a bit after the birth of my daughter (baby #3), but it was still very managable. But the older I get the less managable it is. It dries easier, frizzes, is fly-away..... I think dying my hair doesn't help. Harsh chemicals, even though I only colour my hair 2 or 3 times a year. The grey roots get really long before I colour again. Right now, they're probably 1 1/2" long. Because of this thread, I'm trying two things: organic shampoo and conditioner along with the mouse to put less chemicals on my hair. And shampoo less often to get the natural oils to do their job, rather than continue to strip my hair of what mother nature intended for it to have. I may also switch to the organic moisturizers and face cleansers. Back to basics. It can't hurt to try. Can it?

I have too many bath products (7 bottles and a liquid soap pump) for a wire showerhead rack to work well. Tried one, but it looked messy, and the hose of the hand-held knocked things out of it. The ancient tub (1943, but in perfect condition) of the tub/shower combo has sides so narrow that the tub corners can barely hold a razor. Solution: a pretty, medium-sized basket atop a very small stool (7" tall x 9" wide x 14" long) stationed beside the rear corner of the tub. The bottles don't show above the top of the basket, which is just high enough to be within easy reach, yet low enough to clear the towel that hangs above it. That was an easy fix. The harder fix for this 5' x 7' bath is recreating the lavender-speckled tile. All the bathroom walls are tiled to either ceiling or chest height. When DH removed the ancient 24" vanity (NOT in perfect shape), we found the original owners had tiled AROUND it. The new one fits the space differently, leaving naked wall board exposed. If I have to make tiles to fill these gaps, I might as well make enough to tile that corner completely so as to have the future option of installing a pedestal sink. So I need 48 pieces to install where the vanity used to be. I think I've managed to mix hobby paint for ceramic to the right shade (about a quart of it) and now have only(!) to perfect my speckling/spattering technique. Eventually it might be a cute little bathroom.
