Ashley wanted me to go with her to the dr.So I said yes I will.Than she asked if I wanted to hear to heart beat.I was so glad she asked.The dr said it sounded like a strong little boy! We are so happy!Than the same day which was Tues,Jason had court again with the x-wife.The lawyer said I am going ahead and grant you your divorce,because his lawyer said he seen straight thur Jason's x that she is just dragging all this alone just be mean and he was tired of the game playing.I think that was the lawyer,it might have been the judge but anyway we are so happy.Counting the days now,they have to wait 60 days before they can married.I guess it depends on the state or that might be the rule in all states.Since Ashley had trouble with her blood,she has to take a iron shot once a month.Greg gives them to her.Anyway wanted to share the great news,now counting the days for all of this to be completed.thanks for letting me share the good news.Hugs from Judy in alabama

This has been a weird spring, we had that 80 degree spell that tricked some of us into thinking we should sow earlier than we normally do -- that and the renumbering of our hardiness zones. Are your seeds new this year? Unless you store them carefully, older seeds can lose their viability. I've noticed a big difference between new and older seeds. The new ones just pop right up when conditions are right. I live an hour or two north of you and my peas and spinach, planted in mid- March and April, are up and looking healthy, so it's not the weather. As others have mentioned, onion seeds have to be started indoors very early (like early Feb.) It's still too cold here for outdoor planting of basil, zukes, cukes, tomatoes, eggplant, squash, peppers and beans. Normally I put them out May 15 to 30, depending on the weather. There's no advantage to doing it too early. They like it hot. I start the beans, squash and cukes outside. I start eggplant, peppers and tomatoes indoors in cells or soil blocks in mid-March, then transplant them into bigger pots or blocks after a few weeks.

Hi Kate, I seem to have the same problem as you with ants. I'm in a definitely suburban area and don't really know how the previous owner treated the land (we've been here about 5 years). Our situation is very similar in terms of what we are doing with native plants and microhabitats. And yes, I'm an organic gardener who doesn't use pesticides and feeds the soil with compost and lots of organic matter, but the ant populations seem to really be out of balance. Our soil tends to be very well draining, so if they like dry, they have found the right place. With each year, the ant colonies expand themselves and also pop up in new places. Seems there is hardly a place in the "tended" part of our 1 acre that doesn't have an expanding ant colony. We have put in more vegetables this year and ants are causing a more direct problem there (they have swarmed and taken down two potato plants - I've made sure that they just weren't tending other culprits - and have moved into other beds and made short work of a few squash seedlings). I just can't figure out if the population is out of balance (as it seems) or if this is the natural state and I need to adapt (or fight back with coffee - yum!) I agree - bring on the flickers! I have read that heat and cold in excess plus other factors determine how well you can get a set. You may want to put it in a pot and bring it inside to do the crosses. It just maybe that the the pistil does not have enough stigmatic fluid to dissolve the pollen to get down the tube, you can make a one to one part water and dextrose and dab a bit on the stigma be for you pollinate. Pollen is also a factor, I understand that a heavy dew will X your pollen for that day. I am just putting all my breeders in pots and bringing them inside from now own. Heck one day all of them may be in pots. Have any of you worked with Hacksaw? The journal is going to be helping us more in the future with our efforts to get good seedlings. So if you are not a member now is the time, and if you think you can get back issues, don't count on it and it is a heck of a lot better then the Garden Web.Thanks for the pictures and for the input from Zone 4 knowing how a hosta does in a colder climate is very important. What if a hosta only sets seed in Zone 5 and above or only in Zone 7b, knowing Bob that maybe so, he is a real gene splitter if I ever saw one. We need to get Bob to teach a class on genes. Wendy, Thank you so much for your box. I recieved it as I was walking out the door heading for my long drive to DC. I hurried and opened it and wrote a note to Jason with directions for the plants. The plants looked great and I love everything else that you sent :) Wendy sent me 4 plants, one that I know is sedum, and maybe a vine looking plant, and the other two I am not sure of. - pot hanger decorations, I do not know the 'real' name of what they are. But they are really cute and will look good on some of the pots that I painted :) -lighthouse statues -little stand with a flag -scrapbooking paper -butterfly windchime... that was my favorite!! If I forgot anything, please remind me! Again, I was on my way out the door, and I am writing from memory. Thank you so much Wendy, I loved your gifts!

thanks CB and Jannie.I am going to call and ask someone.Thanks both of you posting here counting the time I will be able to hold him/her.I am praying for a Healthy baby,so is ashley and jason.When Ashley was born she stayed 10 days in ICU because she had a bowel movement inside me and she got it in her lungs,they have a name for this and I can not think what it is called.Than it got me infected and I had a HIgh fever,Had to come home without her and that was so so sad.I never got to hold her in the hospital,but she turned out good.They had told me and greg she might be retarded because not only that she started having seizures.But she is a very smart young lady still loving animals and working at Petsmart as a dog groomer,and she makes very good money.They sent her to school,and has been there every since it open.We are so proud of her,/judy

I'm glad you got to hear the heartbeat . . . being a grandma is everything they say it will be - and more! I was so lucky; I got to be in the delivery room last month - it will always be a highlight of my life. Enjoy this time :)

Judy, what happened to Ashley is called meconium in the lungs, and can happen during any birth which is one of the reasons childbirth is so scary. Glad she ended up doing fine. You must be so excited, congratulations!
