I finally did it--

12 years ago

Had my very first mammogram. I don't know what I was fearing as it was not bad at all! Anyway, wouldn't you know it, they found a mass, so they did an ultrasound and so I'm gonna be scheduled for an "open biopsy".

Surely this can't be happening~All in a year I've: lost my daughter, had a heart attack, quit smoking 4 months ago, and now this!!! Please if you all can send a few thoughts and prayers, I'd appreciate it. But, I gotta say, enough is enough!!!

I have zero help on what to plant but you need to finish getting rid of the Bermuda Grass first. Its an ugly process. Weeds that grow from seeds are way down the priority list compared to the problem below the surface. Don't disturb the soil because you don't want to break off the Bermuda Grass and leave pieces that are very deep and will not come back for many months. You need to water deeply and wait for the Bermuda to come back up. You can gently pull on them and see if they are shallow. Don't break them off. Mostly that is a waste of time. Hit the new growths with Round Up. Repeat until there aren't any new growths of Bermuda Grass. You will probably need to repeat this 4-5 times so you are looking at a 3 month process. If you try to do this in a month you will have lots of remaining Bermuda that will sprout. You will need to be vigilant and Round Up every new growth. If you have established plants at that time, the best way is to dab Round Up Concentrate directly on the sprout. The plants system will circulate it through the plant. An alternative process on such a small area is to completly sift the top 8" of dirt to remove all the Bermuda Grass rhizomes. I understand that the best way to do this on the other side is to mow the Bermuda short and then use lots of Round Up on it. That gets down into the rhizomes and then very little will come back. I'm not a huge fan of Round Up, or any chemicals for that matter, but this is an ideal use of Round Up. Edited to add: I forgot to mention that the rhizomes from the remaining side can spread under the walkway and recontaminate your hard work. Thank you. I hope it all goes smoothly. I ended up with the very first kitchen store that I went to. I wasn't crazy about the guy that came out the first time to measure. But this second time I ended up having one of the co-owners work with me and everything just fell into place. I think because I had so much more knowledge than when I started. But I also realized I needed to increase my budget to get everything I needed done. Everyone else just tried to work around my budget and left out ceiling work (hideous flourescent light removal) and all lighting and sink and faucet. But the best part was finding the cabinet color that I wanted so quickly this time around. I just couldn't settle on the color with the previous kitchen place.

Mazerolm, I don’t think that will work. Lady’s Mantle has separate stems for the leaves and flowers. You would just force it to make new leaves, while the problem is in the flowering stems. It is more for too tall late bloomers like asters and mums. Lady’s Mantle is a flopper, but maybe you can put some low twiggy branches around it, or sturdy other plants?

Many masses turn out to be completely benign. Try not to worry...I know it's much easier said than done but stress can wreck havoc on the body and you don't need that. I'm crossing my fingers for a clean bill of health. You've certainly been given your share! My thoughts are with you.

I'm confused. You posted about this on June 16 ("Enough is enough!"), and said you'd had the mammogram and two ultrasounds; and they told you that you would have to have an open biopsy. I thought this posting was going to be about the biopsy... when is it scheduled?

I've had two open biopsies for suspicious breast lumps, and both were benign. And I have a very strong history of breast cancer. Please try not to worry too much (I know it's "easier said than done") -- I'm sure everything will be fine.

I had to cancel the appt. with the surgeon. Its rescheduled for July 7th. The result I got back then was from the girls doing the mammogram and U/S. The radiologist confirmed a final diagnosis. Totally forgot I had posted it. oops! hahaha Anyway, now it's official.

You are always in my prayers--you have been through so much in such a short time. Remember that 85% of breast lumps are benign. Keep us posted, and we will be with you in spirit on July 7.

When I had a biopsy it turned out to be nothing but calcification -- I hope it will be the same for you.

Glad your mammo wasn't bad, hope your biopsy goes well. My sister had the exact same thing about 20 years ago, she's perfectly fine. But it does cause a family to worry! Let us know the result when it's all over.
