Did he check your thyroid? That would be my first thought.

I always had very thick hair until I started menopause,then it started thinning.Never was on hormone therapy and I believe that may have been a lot of the problem.Hypothyroidism can cause hair loss too.I have notice in the last month or so that mine is falling out quite a bit too but I've also noticed new growth so I'm hoping it's just normal loss.Can't afford to loose much more.My mother's hair was like mine when she was young.Very thick but she started thinning at about 45 or 50.She ended up with very,very thin hair.I have always feared that it is hereditary and I will end up like her.LOL
You might suggest a thyroid test and check for the thyroid antibodies as well as the regular standard test.

Once you've had your health thoroughly checked as suggested above, maybe it's time for you to CHANGE shampoos.

About 5 years ago, my old stand-by shampoo (had used it probably for 40 years) was discontinued. I had no choice but to find another brand. With my allergies, I decided to try an organic shampoo. fortunately, I wasn't allergic to it. And was I ever delighted to notice, in a few months, that my hair--which had been getting pretty thin--started to thicken and become much healthier. Now, about the same time, I also started taking senior vitamins and glucosamine and conddroitin with gelatin. So I cannot be exactly sure which of those components did the trick, or if it was a result of the combo, but my hair continues to be much healthier and thicker. I have heard that if you use the same shampoo too long, it can adversely affect your hair. In my case, I simply didn't want to buy a new shampoo if I didn't have to, because I didn't want skin or respiratory issues so I kept using the 'old' shampoo until I simply couldn't get it any more. Now? I'm actually glad it was discontinued, and I was able to find a better alternative.

If you do not have hypothyroidism as others have suggested, try adding some biotin to your vitamin list.

I would have a full vitamin panel run, plus thyroid. Have you lost weight or had surgery? Both can cause temporary hair loss.

Did you have a high fever when you were sick? That could do it. It happened to me a couple of years ago. I thought I was going to have to buy a wig but it eventually stopped and my hair recovered. Then I had another baby and lost more, but not as much as a few months after I had the high fever.

If it's the fever (telogen effluvium) it will just need to run its course. I bought a great vitamin at GNC - Ultra Nourish for Hair - that helped my hair grow in faster. I swear I noticed a difference in my eyelashes and eyebrows too (and chin hair, but that's the price you pay - pluck,pluck, pluck).

The beautician pointed out to me that I was getting a bald spot in the back at the top of my head. I read somewhere on the internet (and I think it might have been here) that Vitamin B helped, so I started taking Super Vitamin B Complex once a day and I no longer have a bald spot. I am 80.

My hair has been thinning for some time now and I am on thyroid meds. A hair salon recommeded Nioxin shampoo for fine thinning hair.

I agree with Paula, I had pneumonia with high fever. A few weeks later I had a lot of hair falling out and getting very thin. It grew back in to my relief!

I know Lupus can cause hair loss too. Here's a link with some info. Hopefully you and your doctor can find out what, if anything, is wrong.

I lost a lot of hair when I was severely anemic due to fibroids. It came back after I got over that problem.

My worst harloss was after my two babies were born. I used to pull handfulls out in the shower. It grew back after a few months. These thing run in cycles. Speak with your doctor about it. Anemia is tough,you feel like cr@p but don't realize until you build up your iron and start feeling better. Good luck with the iron supplements. Works best on an empty stromach but can cause constipation.

I did run a 102 fever with the pneumonia. Bet that's what happened. I'll keep on with the FE tablets though, since the blood tests did show low iron. (Maybe it was the raspberries, not the iron tabs that gave me tummy trouble! LOL)

My hair isn't comming out in clumps, just individual strands -- root bulb intact. I'm not 'shedding' like a dog in spring, but there's just more hair on my brush and comb, etc.

I thought of one other possible cause. DH and I decided we could survive without taking our multi-vitamins to Maui last winter, and we just never resumed taking them. I've filled up our dispensers today and we'll get back on thosse.

Iron gives me tummy woes too...I take things at night, so I "sleep" through the side affects. LOL

I'm a shedder all year long..it gets worse 2x a year, just like a dog. LOL

My best friend has been losing a lot of hair too! Actually getting pretty stressed out about it. There is a vitamin? supplement? you can get called Nioxin that is suppose to be really good. I think you have to get it from a Beautician. She's going to try that.
