A bit about me: I have suffered with this condition for 7 or so years with it getting progressively worse until it has plateaued over the last 3 years, with almost constant geographic tongue - the painful type. I have had extensive patch testing it only showed significant elevation / reaction to house dust. - I have also had bloods taken on numerous (I think 3) occasions, but no signs of apparent deficiency. - I have spent hundreds of hours researching these condition in order obtain some modicum of relief. Trying amongst other things: - amitrypoline - diphenhydramine (swish) - hydrogen peroxide (swish) - bicarbonate of soda - SLS free toothpastes - gluten free diet - dairy free diets - anti candida treatments (medicine and also natural treatments such as Apple cider vinegar etc) - vitamin and mineral supplements, majoring on B12 and folic acid etc - alpha lipoic acid - xylitol - in numerous forms - accupuncture - difflam - steroids either through inhaler (becotide) or paste (trinolone). betamethasone and buccal pellets (hydrocortisone). Steroids had proved to be the most efficacious, in particular hydrocortisone and betamethasone. However, I was having to take them constantly to maintain remission and it exacerbated my dry mouth - caused I think by the geographic tongue. Clearly taking steroids constantly is not a good idea. But... This is where I have finally (I think) made my breakthrough. I have happened on a treatment that seems to have drastically improved my geographic tongue condition (in conjunction with sticking to a largely bensoate free diet). The treatment is called fucoidan, in particular it is the chewable tablets referred to in this piece of research: http://pubs.sciepub.com/ajmcr/3/8/8/ I was able to get samples manufactured by Daiichi Sankyo which have had miraculous results, far more effective than the steroid treatment with no side effects as yet - other than some staining of my teeth. However, I was literally devastated to hear yesterday that this product has been discontinued and I am yet to locate a substitute I chewable tablet form. I was advised to perhaps try the power fucoidan in cream form as it has proved efficacious for RAS which seems to have a similar etiology- ref research by the same author: http://www.craniomaxillary.com/article.asp?issn=2278-9588;year=2012;volume=1;issue=2;spage=105;epage=108;aulast=Tsubura

I've seen that old crone at my house too. At first I assumed she was a visitor and was just overstaying her time with me like it was in my young days when there always seemed to be a relative or friend or someone extra living in our house. But I have no room here for anyone else, so hope she'll be moving on. Her eyebrows are turning stringy because if she spots an alien white brow it is death by tweezers immediately. She also complains about not finding a good hair dresser in this area, so is letting her hair grow long to wear in a French Twist even though her shoulders hurt like the devil when she has to reach behind her neck like that. The growing out period looks scraggly and is hot on the back of her neck, but she ignored me when I mentioned that. Hardheaded type. She's worn a path between my bed and the bathroom because of a diuretic she has to take for her cute puffy ankles. Her very active IBS is another gross and constantly embarrassing story, and has a way of running her life and causing the extra expense of keeping abundant toilet tissue on hand. She is searching the area for a farrier blacksmith type who would be abler to hack her iron toenails to an acceptable length. She is unable to cut them herself as the process of bending over to reach her feet simply releases the act of "shooting bunnies" to the nth degree. In that area, I try to keep away from her at the food market because she calmly and consistently "shoots bunnies" up and down the aisles, and then pretends to be completely unaware and certainly not responsible. No apologies made. In all fairness I must say the ole' bag has a wonderful sense of humor and can laugh easily at herself as well as at me. She still enjoys looking at men - younger, of course, - drooling a bit - and enjoys thinking how nice it would be to have just some nice, dry smooching once more. Is that a crime? If so, she really doesn't give a damn.

NYT recently had an article on hair loss and how minoxidil at very low doses taken orally seems to work well: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/08/18/health/minoxidil-hair-loss-pills.html?searchResultPosition=5 "But there is a cheap treatment, he and other dermatologists say, costing pennies a day, that restores hair in many patients. It is minoxidil, an old and well-known hair-loss treatment drug used in a very different way. Rather than being applied directly to the scalp, it is being prescribed in very low-dose pills. Although a growing group of dermatologists is offering low-dose minoxidil pills, the treatment remains relatively unknown to most patients and many doctors. It has not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for this purpose and so is prescribed off-label — a common practice in dermatology.... Dr. Rodney Sinclair, a professor of dermatology at the University of Melbourne in Australia, had a patient with female pattern baldness. The hair on top of her head had thinned, and she hated the way it looked. Unlike what happened with most of his patients, Rogaine worked for her, but she developed an allergic rash on her scalp from the drug. Yet if she stopped taking it, her hair would thin again. “So I was stuck,” Dr. Sinclair said. “The patient was very motivated, and the one thing we knew was that if a patient has an allergy to a topically applied medicine, one way to desensitize is to give very low doses orally.” To do that, Dr. Sinclair tried cutting minoxidil pills into quarters. To his surprise, the low dose made her hair grow but did not affect her blood pressure, the original purpose of the higher-dose drug. He subsequently lowered the dose more and more until he got down to effective doses of one-fortieth of a pill and began routinely prescribing the drug. That first patient still takes it."

Roarah, I couldn't get my blood test last week because of no power but D is on the list to check because I had a low count a couple of years ago, main symptom was extreme fatigue because I've become lactose intolleran, and was put on D3. I'm so lazy at taking it though. Just looked up scalpicin and it's Salicylic which I used for about a year to even out my skin tone and remove dry patches. I loved it, and it works. I'm a huge Neutrogena fan now thanks to Yaya. They're also less expensive. The new shampoo I used yesterday has it and also coal tar. Bpath, I forgot about Dr. Dray so I haver her up on YT right now. She recommends Selsun Blue as one of the treatments for both Psoriasis and Eczema/seborrheic dematitis. Doesnt cure it but helps it go away for awhile. Bookwoman, here's a fast read article that explains the difference. https://www.beaconhealthsystem.org/library/faqs/scalp-psoriasis-vs-seborrheic-dermatitis-whats-the-difference?content_id=FAQ-20058544#:~:text=Scalp%20psoriasis%20and%20seborrheic%20dermatitis,to%20extend%20beyond%20the%20hairline. The scales at the hairline only, and it begins behind the line, are completely flat and dry. S.D. doesn't spread to other parts of the scalp, but I have two little raised soft/oily patches that where I can scrape them off. I only scraped a patch one time then read that can cause hair loss and to stop. Also to barely scratch an itch. Now I think the huge area on my elbow could be psoriasis and I can make it go away if I use CeraVe daily. Here's the thing, It's on my left elbow and I lay on my left side with elbow on the pill while reading or playing with my Ipad. I ignored it until the other night it itched like crazy and I scratched it so hard I broke the skin. Once I put CeraVe (Dr. Dray is a huge fan) on it's a miracle at what it does. She also recommends the same gel on the lips and I started doing that instead of chapstick of any kind.
