Bunions. Anybody else have one?

I have recently developed a painful bunion on my left foot. I know why I have it. Partly heredity but mainly because of the shoes I wear. I am in a professional job and wear heels most every day. The bunion hasn't been bad enough yet for me to forgo my vanity and stop wearing my heels but I fear it's getting there!

Does anybody have any advise for how to deal with this? I was reading online about some exercises to do to keep it from getting worse. Just went to Walgreens and bought a gel toe separator and I have to say I think that has helped.

I guess this thing is here to stay??!! Can you get rid of a bunion? (short of surgery!!)

I had one on the outside of my left little toe. Those things really hurt! I went to my podiatrist and he gave me a cortisone shot in it and I've never had any problems with it since and that was years ago. That shot hurt like h*ll though.

My DH's family(as in brothers and sisters...11 kids all together)all have bunions. Grandkiddos too!! Our DD had bunion surgery years ago as she could hardly stand to wear shoes!!

It could have been your winter, a freeze at the wrong time could have done the flower buds in, I almost lost my rhubarb patch which I've had for years from the winter we just had, freezing doesn't bother rhubarb if fact it needs it but having a very mild winter and then the deep freeze after it started to grow almost wiped it out. Or... it could be your forsythia bloomed it's heart out last year and just needs to recuperate. Lilacs sometimes take a year off, if this happens the trick for these guys is the year they're loaded with bloom is to take half of them off so they don't poop themselves out and have the strength to give a decent flower show the following year. I had the seeds to plant fall crop of greens, I dont' think I will with the major bug problems this year. I'll save row covers for spring. Caterpillars destroyed calendula seedlings, and have been isssue on other plants as well. I think I'll remove everything from veggie garden, till( if I can borrow one) or double dig. Then I'll keep garden free of all weeds, leaf debris, etc. Keep grass mowed...and pray. Just this morning, found a new bug in flower/herb garden: some kinda worms in webs at the flowering ends of my applemint...there goes my mint tea..yuck. Do yo all use insecticides? I think I musta put up a sign in my yard that said: organic gardener : every bug that exists welcome!!!!

Anybody else have a fragrant crepe myrtle?

Last year my DH brought 2 crepe myrtles home from a trip to HD. They were not labeled but I'm not complaining since they were quite large for $10 each. One was white and said 20 to 30 feet tall and the other was coral pink and said 20 to 25 feet. I believe the white to be a Natchez; has a wonderful scent! The coral is doing much better this year and has many large blooms that have a very spicy sweet scent. There is a light pink crepe myrtle that has been in this yard since 1959. It has a nice scent. Both of these are near my front door so visitors (if we had any) are greeted with a wonderful perfumed air. ;) Peggy

Thank you for the compliment!! I knew I was always liked old houses, but never really thought anything about it when we bought this one (didn't know it's true age at the time). Having an old house sort of feels like old coin collecting ~ and it starts an obsession. Anything we've done to the house, we've done ourselves. Lucky my husband has a knack for learning new things. Anyways, the huge Poplar came down right before we did the roof. 20 feet from the front of our house, 9 feet in circumference, 80 feet tall meant it should/had to come down. I felt sort of sick about it at first because it was healthy, but I'd like to find some life out of the whole scenario. I'm trying to sweet talk hubby into getting a few logs to a saw mill and let them cut a few thick slabs for a one-of-a-kind wood countertops. He says that's pushing it over the edge and afraid it would be ugly (like he thought the roof would be). =)

I am going to have bunion surgery in October. I am so tired of not being able to wear nice shoes. I have had bunions for many years and am looking forward to being pain free.

I had the surgery about 5 years ago...Before that I could never wear a closed shoe even in the winter, there I'd be in some kid of sandal...Since then, it's been wonderful...I did have the shot which helped for a short time before the surgery....At the time, I worked in an office and was off just a couple of days...I did keep my foot elevated on my desk drawer for awhile...Best of luck....

I had surgery for mine - although it was a little bit of an ordeal at the time, I've never regretted it - can wear any type of shoe, and my feet look "normal" now.

I have a hideous bunion and will undoubtedly have to have the surgery soon. I'm limited in what kind of shoes I can wear, plus my foot hurts a lot of the time. Hope you get relief for yours, Jamie.

I have them on both feet, but the left is worse than the right. I quit wearing heeled shoes about 3 years ago except on VERY special occasions. The doc that diagnosed mine said to get the surgery before hammer toe develops. I'm getting closer to that point and will be visiting the doc again this fall. I'll be going straight to surgery.
