Need sandal suggestions

I wear shoes with orthotics every day, and my feet feel pretty good. When I switch into sandals in the summer, it's hard on my feet. I really need the support of the orthotics.

Does anyone here know of a sandal which has some arch support? I know they'll probably look like athletic sandals or "old lady" sandals, but that's ok.

Maybe Clarks??? My pal has problems with her feet and got cute sandals at a store called Foot Solutions pricey but they would last forever. Oh how about SAS shoes???

I have a pair of Kumfs sandals, with a hard insert, that I added, they are not inexpensive shoes but they are very comfortable, and they look nice. This link is for the sandals they say are orthotic, there are many styles available.

Thanks so much, Debra. That was really interesting. I love the form of Awesome Applique more than that of Blue Eyed Bandit after seeing these different views. Since it's a Semi evergreen, I hope to own it someday. I notice it is a 2007, so it will need to be out a few more years before I can afford it. Does it usually look as pretty as the pictures you sent? Does it have pretty foliage? thanks.

Work_in_progress_08, I ordered, but haven't yet tried, the clogs. My plan was to set them aside for cooler weather and wear thin cotton socks with them (as house shoes only.) That's what I did with a pair of Crocs back when I could find them made in the USA. I like having something that's easy to kick off since I keep my feet elevated when sitting (& don't like to rest shoes on the ottomans.) As for the sandals, I find them comfortable. Amj0517, I think they probably run true to size for average feet. My feet are somewhat deformed, despite surgery on both, and wide, so I order one size larger than the chart indicates and that works fine. BTW, I didn't notice before, but they also have a line under the brand "OKA b" that include some with cute ribbons and flowers. The prices are a little higher than for the original styles, but are still in line with (or less than) similar imported sandals. Here is a link that might be useful: Even more styles

Many of the Woot "deals" aren't that great, but many of them are really good. And every so often they have "Woot-Offs" which is where a product is "up" until it sells out then another product is immediately put up until it sells out and is replaced by yet another product, etc., etc. You never know how many of each product is available, so sometimes it sells out extremely quickly, and other times it takes hours and hours... They also have a limit (usually 3) on the number of each item that you can buy, but the good thing is that the shipping is only $5, no matter what you buy, how heavy it is, or how many you buy. An example of what I thought was a good Woot offer/purchase --- my iPad Air came with a 1-meter (a bit over 3 feet) Lightning cable. I wanted a 2-meter (slightly over 6.5 feet) cable, which is $29 when purchased directly from Apple. From time to time Woot has them, and they are $15.99 for a two-pack of the 2-meter cables, and sometimes they have 3-packs for $23.99 (they both work out to $7.99 per cable). I've also purchased additional Apple 12W USB power adapters ($19 from Apple) for $8.99 from Woot. Oh, there was the Apple EarPods with remote and mic ($29 from Apple) that Woot had for $22.99 for a two-pack. Yes, they are brand new, genuine Apple EarPods, cables and power adapters.

I thought I'd drop back in and post an update re: my foot issues & quest for sandals. The custom orthotic inserts I had made have been a bust so far. IMO, they are far to aggressive / rigid. I feel like I'm walking over a golf ball in my shoe.... imagine a teeter-totter.... that's what it feels like, my foot is rolling up and over. Hard to explain. I'm planning to go back to see if they can be adjusted but between my vacation schedule and the pedorthist's, I don't have an appointment until next Monday. Because I've been unsuccessful so far with the custom orthotics I did not buy the pair of sandals that we talked about at the beginning of the thread. I've ordered / bought 7 pairs of sandals. I'm having great luck with the Vionic sandals (3 pairs) which, if anyone is wondering, I find run very large. I wear a 1/2 size to a full size smaller than usual in the Vionics. All three are very casual, basically an updated structured flip-flop. I have one pair of Spenco that I like but they're not as comfortable as the Vionics for me. Not quite enough support. I also find the pair I ordered very, very casual looking, more so than the Vionics. I've mainly been wearing the Spencos around the house and out in the yard with the dog, etc. I'd wear them to the beach. They seem to be okay for that but I don't think I could wear them to walk any distance. (edited to add: I also find the Spenco pair I bought run a bit small). I'm also having good luck with this pair of Naot sandals. I ordered a pair from Walking Cradles that I sent back - I found them unattractive and awkward and they were too small. I also bought a pair of Wolky sandals, a brand I had never heard tell of before. They were recommended to me by a clerk in a shoe store. I'm a bit torn on these ones. I like them, and I find them comfortable to walk in as far as my particular foot issue goes. But it seems by feet are also swelling a bit, from walking a lot and the heat I suppose, and the strap across the top of my foot digs in after a bit. The straps are adjustable but even at their loosest they end up too tight. I'm hoping they'll stretch a bit with wear. In hindsight, I wish I had tried them on in a 1/2 size or even a size bigger. The orthotic insoles that are sold at Costco have also been recommended to me by several people so I may try them in my sneakers. I'm still working to find something to wear specifically for walking - - I often walk the dog 2 - 5 km and I still don't have anything that is great for that. At least with Costco I can return them if they don't work out. I've also been going to massage and physio, working to strengthen by foot. All in all, it hasn't been too bad so long as I'm careful regarding my footwear. Some days I even manage to forget about it. :)

Your best bet is to ask your podiatrist what she recommends (I do hope your Pod is a 'she'--one area of medicine where it makes a HUGE difference, IMO. Women pod. are much better able to understand BOTH the medical and FASHION issues of their patients--LOL)

I have heel spurs and plantar Fasciitis. I also have rather unusually shaped feet, apparently. My podiatrist recommended that I wear only 3 brands of shoes, ever--Clarks, White Mountain, and New Balance.

As soon as I put on my Clarks my feet feel like they're in heaven. They are so well made, so well-shaped, that I haven't needed to have orthotics made. Now--they may or may not be good for your foot problems, so you really should check with your dr.

Will ad this, though. One day last week, I was going out, it was raining cats and dogs, and I really didn't want to ruin an expensive pair of Clarks, so I dug out some old sandals. Just wore them for an hour or 2, but boy, did I notice the difference. They're in the Goodwill bag now. Just not worth wearing the wrong shoes.

I have a high, looonnnng arch that almost nothing can support. I love Lands End sandals.I used to wear Tevas but I like the Lands End better. You can find them at Sears.

I forgot to add that Dr. Scholl has clear gel arch "cookies" available now. I buy the men's version for the length even though I wear a womens 7 shoe. I've seen them in most foot care areas of Target,Walmart and other drugstores.

I went to a specialty shoe store last year and bought a Merrell sandal. They're great and worth the money.

I too have plantar fasciitis and have found that Dansko makes very comfortable shoes for my problem, with the best arch support I've seen in regular footwear. I'm not sure whether they have anything in the way of sandals, but you could look on-line. When I was really desperate for relief I got some Z-Coils and they really saved me. I'm better now and am trying to transition out of these. Funny enough, I don't find the Clark's have enough support and they hurt my heel.

I also have heel spurs and plantar fasciitis. I can wear Keen sandals all day long and walk for miles without any pain.

My Dr. said no sandals. When you have foot problems support is a must. If you must wear sandals get some birkenstocks, they have support. I now wear crocs (not that the Dr. approves) I have to have the softness on the bottom of my foot for the callouses.

I have the Columbia Surf Tide sandals and they give plenty of support. In fact, I have 2 pairs.
