My annoying search for an iron is over.

At least I hope it is. I believe I indicated something similar twice before. ;-)

I followed the suggestions to do my iron shopping in person (for a change), which I agreed was a good idea. I went to Target, Walmart, Sam's, Sears, JC Penney, and Kohl's. I discovered that the actual stores had limited selections; most of their irons were available online only.

I thought about trying Macy's and maybe a couple of others. I thought about the driving, the price of gas, and how tired shopping makes me, and I decided this purchase was not worth the effort. It's not as though I were buying a car!

So I took another look at Amazon, Newegg, and Abt. I read lots of reviews. And I ordered this one.

I'm looking forward to joining the many happy owners. I am determined to love it. Or at least be satisfied with it. Or, at this point, even tolerate it. ;-)

You were determined not to buy a Rowenta.....lol You could of had a Rowenta for the same price......and been amongt the elite....

It's true.....I was determined not to buy a Rowenta because of all the truly crappy reviews. Like these.

From talking to people, it seems that those who bought their Rowentas a long time ago couldn't say enough good things about them. (And they bought high-end models.) Most of those who bought the current Rowentas said just the opposite.

I will try to help you out here as best I can. Your question is a bit confusing but I think I have it sorted out. To the Poa question it is too late to get to the heart of the problem preventing it from germinating, so premergence is out for that but still should be considered for what is coming. As for the divots, just use sand (coarse builders or sharp sand) to fill the holes. I do not suggest seed because there is none to match 419. Cosmetically you can get one of the powdered dyes to mix with the sand like golf courses use. Now here is where you lost me. Why cant you take the grass down to an inch or less? Is it because you let it get too high and your reel mower cannot take it down with an even cut? Or is it because the grade is to lumpy/bumpy and uneven? If it is because of your grass being too high, sand is not going to fix it. To fix it you start right now assuming all chance of frost has passed. If you want to maintain at say 1-inch, you need to scalp it down to 1/2 inch now and rake up all the debris. It will look like he!! for a couple of weeks, but that is how you fix it. If it is because the grade suks will talk later. Cannot fix that right now.

Hmm that's weird Dave, it is working for me. I've been having this problem with Google Picasa, some people can see it, others can't, and they flicker on and off. I have no idea why. Sammy I was actually thinking the praying mantis. You can get praying mantis egg sacks. Each comes with 200 eggs. And because praying mantises can't fly they stay in your garden. The downside is that I fear they will snatch ladybugs and the bees, but the sad part is that all the bees, even the native ones have been missing since mid-July. The only ladybug I saw was in May. All I get are these nasty flies, thrips and the cucumber beetles visiting. All a sad reminder how important it is to protect our bees from Sevin. Anyway I think a praying mantis would be terrific in my situation. Hopefully the birds won't find the mantis but I think 200 eggs and its camouflage are good odds for it. I am lucky in that my flowers still look very pretty and I only get a few sprinkling of holes in some. But one never knows with insects and fungus, sometimes they just suddenly infest out-of-the-blue. I am sure the praying mantis will be very happy with the thrips and the houseflies that keep visiting my fragrant roses (ugggh, shudder!). Flies are another one of my most hated insects because they're filthy scavengers, which is why I always curb my dog. I hate! flies and that's my ultimate prissiness speaking.

You've gotten some good advice, I will try and organize mine so that it is easily readable. Kitchen: Beautiful! Put a larger table under that wonderful lamp Family room: A+++ This room makes me want to buy the house. TV looks puny though. Suggest either taking the twin bookshelves from the Living room to frame it up in there or remove it to somewhere else. Recreation Room: While this seems like a great place for kids to kick back, it is right outside the master bedroom so be careful about playing up its recreational (read that: noise ) possibilities. Maybe divide the room's purpose. There is one large window with shears and nothing on the second smaller window so it seems it would lend itself to that. Consider too that the way that you have placed the furniture in the rec room is conducive to people sitting there but not people walking through--they are walking through on their way to the bedrooms. Even putting some sort of bar with stools that is set--I don't know, give them something to look at on their way to the bedrooms so they arent' thinking "This is the bonus room." As far as purpose, you could even envision it as an extension of the master as a sitting room with and office hidden behind a screen--just one idea. The problem room in this house in the formal living room downstairs. Those recliners scream old and dowdy and the bookshelves framing a picture seems unfinished. This is THE FIRST room a buyer sees when they walk in and it is not as inviting as your family room and kitchen--it should be. Someone has suggested and office or dining room--both good ideas. You could also use that staging trick and put something in there that is a conversation piece in and of itself so that people don't think too much about the room. Put one of the recliners up in the master and maybe if one will fit, in the rec room. All in all, I think the feedback that you are getting about floorplan is more about inconsistency. Two rooms (the rec room and more importantly, the entry room) pale in comparison to the warm inviting feel you have created in your other rooms. Bring those up to the same level and I think you will have it made.

I don't have that iron, but my new one has the same points on each end like yours. I really like that the more I use it. Makes it faster and easier for me.

I'll be very interested in "hearing" your review! The design is intriguing!

My Rowenta has served me well for at least 8 or 9 years, so I know it can't have many more years left in it. My iron works 10 times harder than normal, because I'm a quilter.

I had to chuckle at that! As you know, Susan, I bought a brand new car 5 months ago. What you don't know, though, is that I hadn't even gone for a test drive before I committed to buying my car. My contact with the salesman had been completely by e-mail and telephone calls. I only went for a test drive after I committed to the purchase, because the salesman kept hounding me about it.

I think your new iron looks very cool. I like the way that both ends are pointed. I think that will make ironing less of a chore. Looking forward to reading your review of it after you've used it for a while. :-)

Are you serious! All that for an iron? I tend to over-think stuff when I shop but no way would I have gone to that many stores to make a decision, lol.

Shoot, I bought a Lexus SUV on eBay! It was 2 states away and cost $500 for delivery, but I didn't have to keep it if I didn't like it. I had never even been inside one before but it turned out to be the easiest car purchase I think I ever made and I liked it!

There is always the ability to return an iron if you don't like it.......... I hope you like it!

And Jae, you might not even know that before I hit the stores I ordered and canceled two other irons. LOL

As I've said before, I actually enjoy anticipation. And the research, etc., is something that feels good too. Especially if I can do it all online.

PS: A few years ago my daughter and son-in-law bought a Porsche online. They flew out west to pick it up, and drove it back. Met some interesting cops on the way. :-)

For the purposes of your review you'll need to do a good bit of ironing. I'll drop off my sheets, tablecloths, DH's shirts and my blouses (roll the sleeves please) - that way you can test drive all the different features of your spiffy new iron.

Someday I would like to find an iron that I truly LOVE! At this point...I still have not found it. I have owned 2 Rowenta's.....both were a great deal of wasted money. (at least the 2 models I had!) I want one that gets HOT...not just hot, but HOT...so that I cannot iron jeans with it on the highest setting! I had inherited one many years ago, and it was Many years old then. That one you could NOT have it on the hottest setting to iron jeans. (no, I don't iron them often, but that is how I 'test' my irons) I had my sewing room in the basement at that time, and I dropped it on the cement floor. :/ Didn't trust it much after that. Someday.

Susan, you and I are so much alike. I also love the hunt, the investigation, the research and the shopping for a good price/auction/amazon stuff! :) Then waiting for the mail lady to come, ooooh, it's so nice to have something to look forward to!

Can you see thru that black when filling it with water or did it come with a cup??

Mine is blue and didn't come with a cup and I couldn't see thru it,so was always overfilling it getting my board all wet.Emailed them,they sent me a cup,don't know why they didn't include it in the first place.

Kathi, I don't plan to fill the iron with water, as I've always used a spray bottle. Serious ironers will probably gnash their teeth when they read this. :-)

Flamey, exactly! And I was thinking of you today when I read an article about a man who spoke with WWII vets in an effort to learn more about his father's experience. One man told how he'd had "shell shock" and was sent away to recover. He said all they did was quilt. Quilting all the time. He said if it wasn't for the quilting he would have lost his mind.

It was very moving. I wouldn't have seen it except I received a free issue of Reader's Digest in the mail. Several interesting articles inside.

Sandy, maybe check the wattages on various irons? Some go up to 1700 watts--possibly more. My new one is 1500.

I was at Tuesday morning store today and saw one of those irons not sure if it is the same model but it was a the same brand and the same shape. so if anyone wants one they have them.

I used to really enjoy ironing and ended up with my perfect system a while back. It is a Bernina ironing board that has a fan that pulls the heat down through the article of clothing then through vent holes. The iron is hooked up through a tank of water and gets real hot. It is heavy too which I like. Can't use it now but don't have anything to iron anyway!

I agree with the thrill of the hunt, in spite of teasing you. I tend to research stuff then get overloaded with info that I just buy something! I have just about restricted myself to internet shopping. One of my caregivers has deemed me "the return queen"!

That surprised me to read that you aren't going to put water in the iron. The little steam vent holes in the oval design would enable me to iron backwards. I use distilled water in my current iron. No calcium or lime build up they say. Like your choice though.

My current iron (Rowena, new in the past year...so far so good) says NOT to use distilled water, only tap water. It has the anti calc feature. Don't know what happens if I'd use distilled.
