I don't think any of us are cardiologists here and can give you any type of informed answer. Obviously your doctor doesn't want to hazard a guess either.

At the very least, you need the full medical history to make an informed guess.

I agree with LuAnn. The HIPPA laws are very strict, and no decent medical professional will violate them. Have your mother give the doctor and his staff permission to discuss her condition/treatment with you. Then you will get decent answers. Don't, don't, don't rely on anything (medical advice) that folks at the KT tell you unless you know they are a licensed physician, specializing in cardiac care. This is too serious an issue to listen to nonprofessionals.

You say she is very frail. When you add her advanced age to just that piece of information, you have a very limited life expectancy. She undoubtedly has other health issues in addition to the aortic stenosis, which is serious. I doubt that a cardiologist would really want to venture what would essentially be a guess as to how long she might live, simply because you can't extrapolate the AS from all the other known & unknown factors that make up the whole of the condition of her health.

I think to be honest with you that you have to recognize that she could die at any moment. Every day that you have her is a blessing. We just can't expect a lot more years when they reach their 90's. I say this from the perspective that my mom died last fall @ 98. My FIL is 94, today he is doing outstandingly well, but tomorrow he could fail & die.
So live each day to the fullest.

I'm sorry, but the HIPAA information here can be wrong. If her mother has given permission to know her history and help keep her apprised of appointments, etc. she has every right to know. I sat in at my mom's appointment recently and they were actually glad I was there. They had to tell her something pretty danged hard to hear and I could help her see what they were saying. At 91, they're very likely to have asked if she wanted to designate someone to be her second pair of ears.

That said, I am sorry to hear about an ailment with your mom. I wish her the best! Her physician may be basing their answer on your question. It depends on what you want to do as to how they will answer. Surgery has pretty good odds as do " less invasive procedure called balloon valvuloplasty".

Here are the descriptions:
â¢A balloon is placed into an artery in the groin, threaded to the heart, placed across the valve, and inflated. However, narrowing often occurs again after this procedure.
â¢A newer procedure done at the same time as valvuloplasty can implant an artificial (prosthetic) valve. This procedure is usually done only in patients who cannot have surgery."

Harry has it. It's probably the most serious health problem he has. They did a viability study on him and determined he is NOT a candidate for any type surgery. They have a new treatment where they go up through the groin (like a cardiocath) instead of opening you up, but it's very new and not all hospitals offer it yet. They have Harry on Coumadin to keep his blood thin enough to get through the right ventricle to the left.

I wish there was a magic pill for them.
