Crystal Cabinet pricing vs Plain and Fancy
Comments (6)I am a kitchen designer who uses Crystal quite a lot. They have a door called Gentry in both of their frameless series - Encore(lower price) and Quest (total custom). That door has 3 3/8" stiles and rails rather that the 4" on the Plain and Fancy. The drawer can be 5 pc or solid slab. Crystal, in the Quest program, will do the stile and rail widths in any size from from 2 3/8" to 4" wide at a very reasonable charge, about $3.00 per door list. With stiles as wide as 4" you will definitely want to see your kitchen in accurate elevations. A 12" wide door will look very different than say a 21" wide one. Doors under 12" wide may have to be slab style because the panel would be so narrow. A standard industry design program like 20/20 may not show the doors totally accurately. This could be a very dramatic look if designed with care. You'd be best to find a designer who is willing to take the time to figure out how to get the best fuction using the most consistant door sizes. It can be done but it takes time and creativity to get it right....See MorePlain & Fancy, Mouser, or Centra by Mouser cabinets
Comments (22)Hi Nicole, We ended up going with Plain and Fancy in painted white with the frameless MDF style, because we really liked the way their doors looked. With the amount of money we were spending, we felt it was worth it to get something we loved rather than something that's merely okay. One of the doors arrived damaged, but was quickly replaced. We love the cabinets. I think the paint has held up well, given that we have three kids (a teenager and two toddlers, and I'm not sure which are tougher on the cabinets). There's some visible vertical lines as the paint has split at the joints on some drawer and door panels, which is expected with time on painted cabinets - and is worse next to the dishwasher / microwave, due to the heat and humidity. And the paint is scuffed off on some of the corners of frequently used drawers. There are some dings and dents on the sides of some frequently used doors and drawers, probably due to us hitting them with various objects. But I'm sure that I'm nitpicking, since I'm looking at the cabinets closely every day. I think if someone came in and took a look at the kitchen, without carefully examining every drawer panel, they'd say it looks great. I will say that the installer is as important as the cabinets. We went with a cheaper installer, because they were $1k+ cheaper, and kind of wish we hadn't. They ended up nicking and scratching the insides of some of the glass door hanging cabinets while installing, and while you can touch it up it's never going to look as good as it originally did....See MoreHow big of a difference between medallion and plain and fancy cabinets
Comments (6)I'm not a pro but the quote is only slightly less than what I've been quoted on my kitchen which is half your size. My two quotes early in my project were $60K and $44K for just the basic cabinets from two design/build firm before I redesigned to inset. I'm only just starting to look for KDs now that I've decided on the cab companies so I can't offer more comparisons. I think yours sounds reasonable for that size. I'm looking to do inset for uppers/talls and full overlay for lowers and island. I like the look of both. However, unless you choose expose hinge, a lot of inset design look like full overlay. I needed inset for the talls because of my pantry and double oven so I designed the uppers to match....See MoreCabinets: Plain and Fancy vs. Woodmode?
Comments (7)I love the finish on my Wood-Mode, Nordic White. My kitchen is coming up on 3 years old & the finish is still perfect. I cleaned my cabinets from top to bottom last week after a wonderful month long visit with my 20 m/o grandson and his parents. Surprisingly, no visible little fingerprints. My cabinets are inset also & the construction is top notch....See Morehobokenkitchen
