Schluter Edge Instead of 4 inch Granite Backsplash
Comments (8)I always use color matched grout caulk at the interface between my backsplash and counters. Grout gets gunky and cracks down there. I grout and then I dig out all the grout that is in the area between my tile and my counters while the grout is wet, then I caulk the next day. The Tile Shop did not have the grout caulk that matched my grout on my last backsplash but I was able to find it and order it online. It is never a perfect match (one is a cement product and one is a adhesive product so it is hard to get the colors perfect) but it is pretty close and looks good. Occasionally I will choose my grout caulk in a color that either matches the tile or counter top material instead of the grout. You would still need to add something to your Schluter edge (clear silicone most likely) because you need to create a waterproof seal to stop water/liquids from wicking from the countertop behind your tile to your drywall and down to your cabinetry....See MoreBacksplash on top of granite 4in backsplash
Comments (5)Bill has posted some pictures of this before. I found some in what I believe to be a portfolio of his. Personally I believe it can work, but I much prefer to tile the whole backsplash and did just that in our remodel. My contractor tried to get me to do the 4 inch only or tile above it, but I didn't like the look. There is one advantage to the 4" backsplash. Granite/quartz creates a very tight dirt and liquid (essentially) impervious corner where the wall and counter meet. If you use tile that corner won't be quite as straight, neat or "impervious", but I don't think it's much of an issue. - Jim Here is a link that might be useful: Some 4...See MoreRemoving a 3/4 thick by 3 inch tall marble backsplash

Comments (18)No to the 4 inch. We can't see your kitchen, so can't comment, but you may be able to do less backsplash than you think. You really only need it behind areas that get, well, splashed. Those are the cooktop and the sink. So you can really save a lot of money right there. And depending on the look of your kitchen, and how much your food squirts and spurts, you might even want a sheet of stainless behind the cooktop....See Moredecordummy_gw
