Comments (1)With 2 cm quartz they often do a plywood base underneath and a pieced on lip/edge at the edge of the counter so it covers the plywood snd looks like a thicker countertop. I'm sure they could just use a thicker plywood base if they need to build it up....See More4 1/4 '' space btwn counters and sills- which size subway tile?
Comments (5)Thanks everyone! Linelle - stool trim is the wood trim that goes under the window sill, it usually looks the same as the side and top trim. we're probably doing soapstone and that would be nice for the windowsill, but it would be the only window (out of a total of 5) that would get it - the rest of the kitchen has no or different counters. Comments (4)We have 4-inch tile counters in our current kitchen, and they are the only thing about the kitchen that I love. We bought the house this way and I probably would never have thought to choose this surface, but it has turned out to be great in the 11 years we have been here. The problems I had imagined with tile countertops (including those mentioned above) never materialized. They are sturdy, easy to keep clean, and provide a surprisingly smooth and level working surface. All that said, I wonder if the smaller tiles might magnify the issues of unevenness and grout to get dirty to the point that the problems that seem invisible to me now would be quite noticeable? I guess I'll never know, since we are going with soapstone in our remodel....See MoreQuestion for those who have Quartz counter tops, please.
Comments (35)I have Cambria Torquay and use Clorox wipes on them all the time. I use them to wipe down my counters, then follow it up with Method granite polish from Target (LOVE that stuff!) There is absolutely no streaking, haze, residue, discoloration, etc. I frequently put hot items straight onto the countertop, but try to use a trivet or pot holder most of the time. I'm not super worried about it, but I figure it doesn't hurt to use a little extra caution. I was given the option of having the sink cut-out finished into a cutting board, so I used that for a long time as a tester of sorts. It has held up to all stains and temperatures I've subjected it to. I was advised by the installer to use a it of straight acetone for any stains that couldn't be removed with regular cleaner or by scraping with a razor blade. That was four years ago, and I have yet to find anything that didn't wipe right off. And that's saying something, because I have young children. I absolutely love my quartz counters and would buy them again in a heartbeat....See MoreKrista Riddley
