Bead Board in Bath 3/4 up Wall
Comments (5)There is another pic at the link below that appears to be about 2/3 of the way up. I Googled 'beadboard bathroom wall' images, and while most are at 1/2 height, I saw some that are higher. You may want to check that as well. My half bath is shown below. I put mine a bit more than half way up, as I wanted the medicine cabinet and the corner cupboard to appear to be resting on the trim. Comments (6)Ours isn't beadboard, it's tongue and groove pine (6-inch width, I believe). It was relatively inexpensive and somewhat easy to put up. Painting was a pain in the patootie, though, so if you decide to go that route, you need to do it differently than what we did. Most importantly, you want to at least prime (and possibly paint the first coat) before it's put up. We used Zinsser BIN to prime and it did a terrific job of keeping the knots from bleeding. Painting the grooves is the hardest part, but having it primed before hanging would have made it much, much, much easier. Also, be very, very careful in the placement of lighting fixtures. Once a hole is cut in tongue and groove, you're kind of stuck with it. You can't patch it like you would drywall. We were trying to avoid a seam where a wall was taken down. We have tongue and groove ceilings in several other rooms, so this was a natural choice. I love the way it turned out, too....See MoreQuestions for those with bead board backslashes
Comments (10)We have stained beadboard next to the mixer. As long as splashes are wiped away right away, they come off easily. I'm not a terribly vigilant cleaner but I am pretty good with taking care of the mixer splatter. I've found no problem with the painted beadboard backsplash in the rest of our kitchen. We have 4" of stone backsplash (matching the counters) before the beadboard starts. The strip of stone is the only backsplash behind our sinks since the windows come down quite low. We have stainless steel behind the range. Except for the baking area, we do most food prep on a peninsula so maybe that's why cleaning the beadboard hasn't been an issue....at all. We have beadboard in our powder room also. We get more shrinkage there, near the radiator, than we do in the kitchen. I love the beadboard and any gapping between boards is in character with our older farmhouse. Our beadboard has been up for 6 years and I don't remember pricing. The stained beadboard in our kitchen is part of the cabinetry and it is true beadboard. Dh put up the backsplash beadboard and it was the kind that came in long strips about 6" across (2-3 beaded units across). He bought it at a big box store. We didn't need a lot of it so it wasn't very pricey (sorry, I can't remember a ballpark amount). He primed all sides. We put 2 coats of paint on the fronts and that was it. We never had a vent hood before our reno. It's made a huge difference on the amount of gunk that accumulates on the backsplash....See MoreBeadboard ceiling question
Comments (12)graywings, How true! "Beadboard is a lovely touch in the right house. But otherwise it is a fad - beadboard is to 2012 what wallpaper border was to 1990". I love the 3 1/4" or larger tongue in groove board, like the old pine paneling looked, and you can still get that for beadboard, but it sure is expensive. We were going to get some wider tongue and groove for our kitchen in the Virginia house, but we had to buy a minimum of 900 feet to get the one we wanted, and were not ready for that much commitment to beadboard! lol We had seen it in a house that was being built applied on a tall wall going up 2 stories (w/10' ceilings) and it was a round wall. It was gorgeous, and we fell in love with it. The house being on the shore it was so appropriate for the look of the install and the feel of the house....See Morewi-sailorgirl
