Please show me the area under your bar/overhang??

I am putting in a nice granite overhang/ bar area with bar stools. Right now, the wall is painted crimson. I can just picture how terrible it's going to look within a month because of people's feet up against that wall while seated at the bar. I am thinking of maybe putting a white trim panel in that area that will match the rest of the molding in the house and have the added benefit of being a scrubbable paint. Any suggestions? Got pictures you can share? thanks!

Sorry - I don't have any pics to share for your question - however - IF
you are going to put a trim panel on the wall to take some of the "beating"
that kids (and "kidadults" like me - a KID trapped in an ADULT's BODY...)
will be dishing out - I'd offer you this suggestion:

For the trim/fascia panel - take a look at using "FRP" (Fibre Re-Inforced Plastic) sheething -
it is used in high traffic areas in place of ceramic tile. It is waterproof,
comes in sheets that are 48" x 96" x 1/16" to 1/8" thick -in white & almond - and has a crackled or crystal looking texture - some are called
"Pebble Embossed" too - it's way easy to keep clean, and you can glue it to the drywall.

You can purchase this FRP at most large home improvement centers or lumber yards. I googled "FRP" and came up with a whole slew of products
and sources - I have attached one link for you to look at to see what I am describing.

Anyways - it may or may not be what you are looking for - but take a look to
see if this is something you'd want to investigate more...

That's a good idea Kevin. I could put a nice trim strip around it (I think I have some already too, which is nice) and I would have a kick-proof (or at least clean-able) wall. I just know that red isn't going to hold up to accidental abuse.

I couldn't agree more! it's ALL about organizing your "stuff". I sew for my supper, and if my own workroom wasn't well organized I'd be dead in the water. The other aspects that I've found problematic over the years are: 1.) poor lighting 2.) not enough tabling. You have to have good, task-specific lighting. As I've gotten older and my eyes have begun to do the "40s bi-focal thing" I've become more aware of its importance. Drafting lamps that you can clamp onto things are extremely helpful and can be purchased on sale at big box stores. Tabling is more problematic, I think. This is especially true if you want to make draperies or BIG things. Working on the floor is an option (buy some soft knee pads!!!) but working on your hands and knees sucks and if it sucks... well, you ain't gonna want to get up and finish the project the next morning... ESP. if you've had to clear the space for dinner, etc.. Also under the "organization" tent is SCHEDULING. This is so very, VERY important to home sewers because too often you guys have NO clue how long a project will take! I know how long something will take within minutes of assessing it. But I've been sewing professionally for close to 30 yrs. now, AND I have the tools and machinery to do the jobs with greater ease than many of you do. Here's an example: It takes me 3 1/2 hrs. to cut out a fully boxed cushion, the requisite welting ("piping"), assemble it completely, cut out the foam, and stuff it. But I've made HUNDREDS of them. Working with one machine, no experience, on your dining room table it might take you a full day. SO, it makes it lots easier if you have a place where you can set up, AND STAY SET UP until you finish the project. In my years sewing, and also TEACHING sewing I've found the greatest barrier to FUN is setting up and putting away.

I like the idea of the TV being on the wall opposite the window and the couch up against the window, but I wonder if it will be a problem since that is sort of a hallway area. I guess the other problem I would run into is where to put the cable box etc. I will do a little mock up of it today or do a computer drawing to see how it will all look. Painting the trim around the window can be done, I will have to fight with DH, since he loves it and says that it mirrors the window trim in the kitchen. @loribee and @oceanna I have taken a look at the gallery. Lots of great ideas with colors etc. I just keep thinking 'if only I had an extra 2 feet of living room space . . . ' Of course that would be too easy :-) @loribee, I was able to open the link that you sent me and something along those lines is what I was thinking for the chair. I prefer the ones with arms, though so I was thinking something small like that one, with open arms like the one in @chickadee2's link. I also like these chairs quite a lot. I have also toyed with @luckygal's idea of moving the living room to the office. The office is 9'x11'. I agree with the idea of at the very least painting the trim. I have seen some pics of it done, and it looks great. I was scared about doing it, but now I think I will. I also like the idea of a creamy color that was suggested for the walls and trim. If I work up the courage, I will remove the trim all together. Thanks again for all the wonderful thoughtful suggestions.

We also have the Franke Orca in the main island. Our coffee bar has an Elkay round 14" Undermount Single Bowl Stainless Steel Sink with 18-Gauge, 6" Bowl Depth. This was the largest sink we could accomodate. Slightly bigger would have been slightly better. Hope this helps.

We have the Silgranit single bowl, right sided drain in Metallic Grey. LOVE it. Moen Arbor Motionsense faucet centered, soap to right and disposer air switch on far right. If food bits don't all go down I just use the pull-down sprayer and spritz out the sink. The sink is slightly angled down toward the drain so it seems to work fairly well. I made the decision to go with the Silgranit after lurking here on Garden Web for months and I am so glad I took the advice of the many wise contributors. I had purchased another faucet but changed my mind and am so happy with the Motionsense. It is amazing... Good luck! Ps--this is prior to the window trim going in and the cabinet doors and drawer faces being installed. We're about 90% finished with our reno. :)

Hey, that's pretty! I could use the same tumbled travertine tiles I used for my backsplash. I may have to do a photoshop mock up of that and see how it would look. thanks for that suggestion!

The gap you see in the picture at the top is never visable: I only took a close up picture at a low level. There is a 2" Laminated Full Bullnose on the granite bar top: bar top is 18" in size with (9" over hang)

12x12 granite or marble or onxy: is about $7 per tile: if you find at a whole sale place: usually will sell ten pieces at a time: under $100.00 (red onxy is expensive!) brown onxy is not so bad: Timber Brown or Multi Colored Brown: not too expensive. There is green or brown Forest Marble that looks really "exotic" as well. Depends on the look in your house: but it really adds feature.
You don't want the wall to be totally out of control with what you have in the kitchen for countertops: nice contrast would look great:
Deco strips with 4x4 tumbled would look nice. Onxy comes in 4x4 as well.
