Has anyone used Hanssem Plywood upgraded cabinetry for their kitchen remodels? Most posts are from 2008/09. I am ready to order as they are within my budget but am reluctant due to previous negative comments. Any favorable comments? If not Hanssem, what other comparably priced maker can you recommend? Also, I am having a hard time choosing between cherry and the vanilla/mocha glazed cabinets. Any recent remodels using one of the above? Also, what granites did you use?

I spent the better part of the weekend tiling in order to fill most of the void, so I can check this one off the list! Waiting to hear from KD re: cabinet installation. We've done all the prep work on this end -- wiring for UCL, wiring for new appliances, painting, sheetrock repair, etc. However, life did come to a screeching halt today...I'm posting this from a hotel room 2.5 miles from our house. Earlier this evening, DH shut off the main breaker to the house to replace one of the other breakers...routine stuff. But when he flipped the main breaker back on, nothing...nada...crickets. (Yes, he did flip the switch to full off, then back on again several times.) With 95+ degree days lately, no way we could stay in the house for very long, even in the evenings. Emptied the fridge and freezer contents into coolers, and off we went. DH is surfing the net, trying to find a local electrical supply house that carries one of these breakers; scheduling the electric company to come out and disconnect the power is a whole other matter entirely. Sigh...one step forward, one step back.

I assume you will be adding shelf support brackets on the longer runs, otherwise, you would have to have very thick material to resist sag. In terms of dark mahogany stain, I would go with the cheapest wood species you can find, other that oak - oak has very porous grain

Technically screws may hold better in plywood however the potential difference is not likely of any consequence in this application. Also, when mounting cabinets to the wall the screws used do not typically have threads up to the head of the screw, the shank is free of threads for at least 1". So in this case there are no threads in the plywood, just in the supporting stud. The only thing preventing the cabinet from falling down is the force it would take to pull the head of the screw through the plywood or particle board, no threads are involved. You make it sound as if the screws for particle board are out of the ordinary "Special Screws", they are no more special than any other screw, deck screws, drywall screws, wood screws, subflooring screws. Available every where and cost the same as just about any other common type of screw.
