Help with 46' counter depth frig... planning remodel
Comments (15)Do go see them. I think that will help clarify for you. I don't remember the sides on the columns that well, but I am sure they are not finished. They are made to be installed between cabinets, but there may be other ways to finish the sides. You would also need to consider the side glides or anchors that are used for installation. I don't know, but it may be that a 3/4" panel on either side would be sufficient. I have seen Subzeros installed this way or with a small cabinet on either side -- to look like an armoire, basically. What is it that you want? Cooling space, a look, or just clearing more aisle space? What will drive your decision? If you just want to clear some floor space, Kitchenaid makes a counter depth that is 72" tall and has about a 25 cu ft capacity. It's 36" wide and gives you about the same storage as you get from the typical 42" built-in, but the shelves are deeper. Inches of width do not necessarily translate into larger capacity. If you want easy accesibility and easy veiwing, you may prefer the built-ins and the shallower shelves. You will get ease of use but not necessairly more room or a lot more room. And the looks are a but different. Anotehr factor might be what is expected in your neighborhood. And consider the scale of your room. If you have a smaller kitchen with 8 ft ceilings, make sure a large built-in won't be out of scale with the rest of your space....See MoreShould I get counter depth or regular size frig (pics)
Comments (14)I may be the lone voice.... I too like the look of the CD, but I have to go with function over form (and my budget won't allow for a high-end CD with the storage space I need). I will be putting the massive Samsung 26 cu ft refrigerator in my new kitchen. It will be at the end run of a counter against the wall and this should make it less noticeable (I hope). I have a fridge in the basement now and find that I prefer to have what I need in my kitchen. How large is the current fridge and has that met your needs? If not, then a larger one might be better for you. If you don't mind going back and forth to the basement, you could always go with another CD fridge and depending on your need for additional refrigerator or freezer needs, get an extra freezer for the basement as well or a larger 2nd refrigerator. Personally, I don't enjoy going up and down the stairs (I'm not that organized - it always seems that what I need is in the downstairs fridge). I will be putting our current fridge in the basement (I try to keep extras there - milk, OJ, fruit) and anticipate at some point purchasing a freezer as well. I have a DS who is only 6 and on some days has quite an appetite. I can only imagine what it will be like when he is a teenager and he and his friends raid the fridge..... A friend who just redid her kitchen did a CD but also put in refrigerator drawers (2) in her island where all the beverages are stored - could this work for you? It really freed-up space in her fridge. If I had the $$ and the space I would have done the same thing. Good luck, this isn't an easy decision....See MoreRefrigerator Q's- French Door or SxS, and Counter or Full Depth?
Comments (16)We had a full size sxs before, replaced it with a counter depth french door, and couldn't be happier with it. Aesthetically, I like the fact that the fridge doesn't jut out. Functionally, I know that it is smaller, but appreciate the fact that things aren't getting shoved into the back and forgotten about. The crisper drawers keep my veggies much better than my old fridge did. My husband loves it because his frozen pizzas fit in the freezer (they didn't fit well in our old s x s). Organizationally, I feel like the freezer drawer is a vast improvement with the sliding top compartment and drawers on the bottom. Overall I can say that we would likely not get a s x s again. With all of that being said, here are the cons. We are only a family of two so obviously don't have the storage needs of many people. The large items that we store on a regular basis are a gallon of milk (in the door), and pitcher of tea on one of the shelves. I can see that if you have a lot of "big" items, they just wouldn't fit. There is much less door space for condiments. I am a cooker and like to prepare most things fresh, but I love love love my condiments and find I struggle to fit them all in. I like mostly fresh veggies, and after my weekly grocery shopping trips, I have trouble fitting my purchases into the two crisper drawers (and yes, this is for 2 people) but after a meal or two, the space opens up. This could obviously be remedied by me just buying my fresh veggies on a more frequent basis, but I get by. FYI - I got a Samsung French Door Counter Depth (http://www.samsung.com/us/appliances/refrigerators/RFG238AARS/XAA). Even with the cons, I like it very much....See MoreAny Regrets Switching From Regular-Depth to Counter-Depth Fridge?
Comments (49)We're a family of five. We eat lots of produce and I cook at least once a day. I bought a CD Electrolux all fridge a few years ago and don't regret it. The one thing it doesn't fit well is a box of those huge 16" take-and-bake pizzas. I have to remove them from the box or clear a shelf that doesn't have a door shelf across from it when closed. My produce may overflow the available space in my drawer for a day or two, but that's not really an issue. I really love that it doesn't intrude on my aisle because the fridge location in this house is stupid. FWIW, my fancy Gaggenau oven doesn't fit those pizzas, either. I have to cut them in half. I wouldn't trade my oven for one that did. It's my precious....See MoreJodi_SoCal
