I think it depends on what you eat and how often you shop. I have trouble fitting some items in for a family of two so I don't know how bigger families do it. My two produce drawers are always full. We eat an orange everyday so they take up almost an entire drawer. Lettuce hogs space. We are typical condiment users but every door shelf is full. A gallon of milk takes up one shelf. Our full-width bottom shelf usually has a six pack of bottled beer and a Brita pitcher, which makes me have to move the upper shelves higher, squeezing the space between the adjustable shelves.

I love the deli drawer. It holds a lot--meat, cheese and some items that would normally go on the door shelves, like yogurt and sour cream. Mine has a separate temp control so I set it at 34 degrees and I can easily keep meat fresh for five days, so I seldom freeze meat. I could give up some freezer space for more produce space. Do not lose a door shelf by getting ice and water in the fridge. We have an in-freezer ice maker.
