Backsplash on countertop and outlets overlap
Comments (1)Hello Tami, Actually, this IS one of the General Contractor's subs. If the GC was informed about the taller base cabinet then it's ALL on him for not communicating with his electrician about the change in elevation. In either event, it's a simple repair that your electrician can perform by raising the outlet or just turning it horizontal, which ever works best for you. If you did not inform the GC that the cabinets would be taller, then he's got a point for his argument but he should still be willing to accommodate the change, for a nominal back-charge fee. Either way, it's not a disaster and the solution is with moving the fixture and not the cabinet or finished surface. Best of luck, Shaughnn...See MoreVertical Backsplash? A Backsplash Regret?
Comments (28)I can see why it might be advisable to remove the left/rt portions of tile, but I would be inclined to wait until ithe kitchen is completed before deciding. If, as your gut tells you, it "needs" to come down, nothing is really lost except a little more time with it up. Perhaps knowing you are not "locked-in" or committed to it, will help give the perspective to view it more objectively while deciding for sure. This way you will not only have the chance to see it with everything else in place, but you will also have the opportunity to get used to it, before deciding if you truly dislike it, or just haven't gotten used to it being there. As subtle (in color) as our tile is, after months of looking at white painted Sheetrock, it still looked "different" and stood out when we looked at our kitchen. Once we became accustomed to it, we couldn't imagine our walls without it. That's how I am with many things--after living with a blank wall or empty space for any period of time, even a long awaited piece of furniture or decor item jumps out at me, and almost seems like too much, until I get used to the vacant space being filled. Thanks for the compliments on our backsplash Laura and andreak100! It's the Opera Glass tile from Artistic Tile (Stilatto pattern) in Wolfgang White. It does read greenish-blue(-grey) in certain lights or times of day. We had to think about that one while deciding if we wanted to use it, and obviously decided to go for it! Good luck Laura! Honestly, whatever you decide will look terrific!...See MoreWhy do people love ceramic backsplashes?
Comments (13)"Hi - My name is Sweeby and I'm a tile addict." Well, more accurately, I'm a ceramic tile addict. Stones tiles can be lovely - glass too. But it's ceramics I dream about at night. (Yes - Really) The color intensity of a ceramic glaze -- the depth of color -- the range of colors available. The subtlety and the boldness! Crackles, shiney, mattes. Absolute flats with rectified edges. Handmade with irregular surfaces and color variations. Earthy tiles. Out of this world space-age tiles. Vintage tiles. Futuristic tiles. Spanish Villas, Japanese Tea Rooms, Sweedish firesides, French Bakeries, English greenhouses... How do I love tiles? Let me count the ways......See MoreNew backsplash closeup - now outlet color dilemma
Comments (9)I do like the crispness of the light almond as compared to the ivory. The travertine, at times, does have a pinkishness (did I just make that up?) to it - in real life, the sample of the Desert Stone-with its slight bent towards pinkishness- is just about a near match to some of the colors in the travertine. It does, as palimsest suggest, pass the squint test. My husband suggests that it would be better if the outlets/switches do not blend in; I suggest that it might be better if they practically disappear. As an aside, it's interesting how different people view colors. We'd painted my kitchen with a green color which, to me, had a bluish tint. I was the only one who could see it - I always felt 'chilly' in the kitchen. We repainted after remodeling the kitchen with a yellower green. Now I'm happier in there- my husband acknowledges the difference, but barely. We sort of have come to the conclusion that eye color makes a difference in color perception. I believe I've come across a study to that effect. I have brown eyes - my husband and our grown children and their spouses all have blue/green/gray eyes. That is my dilemma in a nutshell - it's my brown-eyed craziness! Helene...See MoreMadeline616
