recessed lighting w/existing textured ceiling?

We are rethinking the new lighting in our kitchen renovation. We have 8 ft ceilings that are textured. There is currently a center ceiling fixture and one over the sink. The sink light will likely be replaced with a pendant due to the cabinet detail over the sink.

The dilemma is with the center overhead light fixture - if that is taken out and replaced with recessed lighting, you will likely see the patch work over the area of the existing fixture. How noticable would this really be in a small (10x10) kitchen? My first thought was to go with a semi-flush mount fixture in the original light location but am reconsidering recessed lighting because I like that look. There will be under cab lighting too, so the other lighting is about asthetics as much as the source of light.

Has anyone patched a textured ceiling and do you notice it every time you look at it? Our contractor will do it for us but made us aware that we may not like the look of the patch. Other thoughts?
