Most low voltage recessed lights (LED included) will not supply enough lighting, unless you have quite a number (eg - 1 per ft or more). Assuming an entire LV setup with 1 or more transformers You will need to calculate the number of lights needed, the length of low voltage wiring, wire gauge, number of transformers. DC voltage lines suffer more voltage drop than AC lines. That's also the main reason why line voltage is AC. If you're using halogen lights, the wires need to be fairly thick due to the amount of current drawn. The above configuration is highly impractical. There are LV recessed lights that have the transformer built into each fixture. (3" - 4") http://www.pegasuslighting.com/4inch-12v-recessed-lighting-housing-remodel-75w.html. There is a danger that the light fixture itself could fall if fastened to ceiling tile. However, if the drop ceiling is standard sheetrock that is properly supported and fastened, you will not have a problem. Some alternatives - T8 fluorescent lighting or LED ceiling tiles.

I don't have a strong opinion either way. I live in a suburban area that spread out around an established small town. My choices within 5 miles are virtually limitless, from the mall and club/bulk stores to locally owned drug store and everything in between. I've learned which stores have what I need/want and which ones are overpriced even if they do have it. I don't discriminate by store size, I think I spread my money around pretty well. LOL. Sometimes the small, locally owned store is a better bet, sometimes the superstore is. If I need to run out b/c I need only: milk, shampoo, cat litter, wrapping paper and a mouth guard I go the superstore to save myself time, one stop. Nowhere else can I get all that and only park the car once. But if I only need the mouth guard, I stop at the locally owned sporting goods store cuz I'm in and out quicker. It might be 10cents more at the small shop, but it's not worth saving 10cents to go to Walmart for 1 thing. For regulary food shopping, I go to a chain grocery with the selections I like, good prices, but no underwear. LOL. They all have their purpose for me. The small, locally owned shops on "Main Street" have a niche. They do provide some items and a kind of service I can't get at the big stores. Sometimes I need that. There is a locally owned bookstore that I love. There is a dance shop where DD can try on leotards. There is a hockey shop where they know their stuff, I won't go to the chain sports store b/c they do not. (And neither do I, so I need someone who does.) Sometimes, though, I just need convenience.

Jterrilynn: Cruising is a great way...then you can get off the boat at each port & explore. Valdez is a huge tourist attraction so be sure & choose a cruise that has Valdez as a port of call. Even though I hate the idea of being on the water, I'd rather do that than drive the 100's of road miles. With all the RV's on the road, it can drive you bonkers. Oh, & when someone up here says, "It's just up the road a piece.", ask, "OK, just exactly how many miles are you talking about?" Our 'up a piece' can be in the 100's LOL Hope you go on that cruise! :) I know what you mean about getting the 'rejected' screen. I've had to fight with that, too. @grapefruit1_ar Hah - you say you don't want to move from your primary home alive, I've told the mister we are dying in our current house because there's no way I will move to another in our lifetimes. I was the one who did the packing of boxes and all the other tedious but obligatory stuff in preparation for moving from our previous home - he only had to go see houses and take a ton of pictures of the ones visited, my parents helped out with the realtor-given property tours for because they already lived in Nebraska where we moved to. My mom ended up taking 'supplemental' photos because the mister was getting a little frustrated at the fact that I didn't think the ones he'd taken were sufficient nor showing all possible angles/views. :P My mom is a prolific photo taker, and she's super detailed (like I am) about things so really I should have just asked her to take all the photos while she and my dad were doing the home tours with the mister. I'd have gone out to Nebraska myself, but I had to stay and properly wrap up things with my legal practice, not to mention pack/be on site for showings/get the place ready including letting in various professionals to clean the chimney-replace sink hardware-add more lighting fixtures-etc...We decided to go ahead on moving in May 2017, put the house on the market in June 2017, had the place sold and escrow closed at the end of July 2017. My old car was sold and the title handed to the new owner a few days into August and the mister and I stayed at a nearby hotel with the dog until our flight out of LAX on August 5th. His work vehicle was already at our new house, but once we dropped our luggage off we went over to the dealership to pick up my new car - the transaction was done primarily online so it was super easy and convenient. The mister got a job offer out here right before I did, but his was on a shorter timeline before he'd have to give his now-boss an answer about whether or not he wanted to accept the position. Renting a place here at the same time as looking for a home to buy would eat up a lot of funds we really wanted to keep in the home purchase category of the budget. I also needed to put aside enough for taxes on the townhouse in SoCal that we sold (and other taxes related to both of the property transactions).
