Just checking in...what's been up?

I have been away a looong time! Very, very busy getting things finished around the house. Making fantastic progress! But....not in the kitchen, lol! Everything is good, just re-prioritized the project list.

-Expecting another grandie! Next punkin is due in May sometime.
-younger son moved in while he waits to leave for the navy in March
-got basement and garages both cleaned out
-hung 1200 feet of fencing for pasture
-got the flowers beds dug out, refilled with top soil, mulched, and my poor orphan perennials in the ground
-completely painted and de-cluttered the living room
-new carpet in downstairs master to replace nasty, doggy carpet from PO, painted all walls and trim in that room, moved our bedroom down into it.
-acquired pallets (finally!) and got wood stacked
-had dog fence installed
-got really, really sick
-got better

See? I HAVE been busy!

But I have not forgotten my awesome peeps at the Gardenweb Kitchens Forum. My psyche is forever tainted with TKO. But in a good way! :o)

Greenhaven- nice to see a post from you and I'm glad to see Tuesday enjoying her pasture!

You should come back and join our weekly threads. They have been going since mid-May and are still going strong. Its a nice area to update what we have been doing and its what keeps me coming back to GW even when nothing is happening, kitchen wise.

Hey! Sorry to hear you've been sick and glad you're feeling better. Tuesday looks wonderful. Have you finished your kitchen yet? What were we waiting for, painted beadboard backsplash, I believe.

Kristi, this time will pass, and the pain will become more barable as it becomes more distant from the hearing of it. IN the meantime, spend as much time with the growing plants as you can. They are the antithesis of untimely and unfortunate death. And remember how much that is alive and good you have around you...your beautiful household companions, your "date", your friends. Spring is probably here for you though it seems on hold for many of us (Likely snow tonight and blossoms a month late from the usual here!) Spring is all about renewal and new chances...grow into it, let go of the past sadness and revel in the spring and sunshine and new growth. It is hard to be sad when seeds are sprouting all around and flowers are budding! My glorious show of winter blossoms is almost over too. I think I am down to 15 buds at various stages, but I did have atleast one flower from almost everything. I seem to have a lot of non descript pale red and white ones that I can not identify.They look like Minerva's anemic country cousins! I finally figured out that they were the ones that were in the Jackson and Perkins basket of Amaryllis I had sent to my Mom the last year she was with us (2002. She had had a stroke but she still enjoyed watching those amaryllis grow and after Dad moved to a nursing home he sent the basket home with me. For 3 years they would pop into bloom just when I most missed Mom and I got to feeling that they were messages from her. They look so subdued though, I think they must have had more light before. They had multiplied in the basket over the 3 yrs and I ended up with 5 of them blooming over the past few weeks. One of these days I will get their pic into photobucket. (That seems to be one of my least favorite ways to spend my time.)

Betty, so sorry to hear about your DH, but be glad he's on the mend and can now enjoy summer with you & the family. It's always something, isn't it??? My son was in track and I remember all the practices & the meets, but I LOVE track & field events so I was at every one of them through grade school & highschool with him. My oldest grandson tried track & he just doesn't have his dad's genes I guess, now he's great at almost every sport, especially if it involves balance, he was "dropping in" on the big vert ramp on his skateboard when he was 4, but he seems to have lead in his butt when it comes to running & track. Guess he'll stick to his guitar & cycling! I bet your son does make state if the did that well his first year! I'm just like you, I LOVE digging in the earth, all my nails are gone as soon as spring arrives. Everyone says "why don't you wear gardening gloves" I hate them, I want to feel the soil, get in there & get dirty & you are right, if I'm not dirty & sweaty by nite time, I did not have a good day in the yard!!! LOL And, like you, have back & shoulder problems, but if we let that stop us, we deprive ourselves of one more simple pleasure in this life, so I plod onward & continue to work in my yard, despite the problems!!! I will be mostly lurking too, unless I have some pics from yard sales to share.

Thanks for your welcome back, yes I've posted on the cooking forum, but the quilting scene has been dry around here (just nothing hapening) until just recently. I made several quilts last year and somehow this year I've stayed out of the sewing room pretty much. I just got tapped out! I hope this comes to an end soon what with all this fabric, it would be a shame if it just sits. I also occasionally post on the Florida Gardening forum but it's been dead lately for me, too, it's just so hot out there to think about it and with all the rain we've gotten the ground is so soggy that it's hard to even weed. I know - excuses excuses.

Marion, my garden is great. I'm finally (after 3 years) starting on the front yard renovation. Got all the ugly shrubs out and have expanded the beds that were only about two feet wide up against the house. Around the front walkway I expaned the small narrow bed to a large (about 10 feet) rounded area. DH put in new Malibu lights and a new yard lamp that we've had forever! I transplanted a palm from the backyard along with a native firebush (hamelia patens) and three clumps of purple fountain grass. It's looking great so far and I'll probably spend most of the winter working on it a bit at a time. Linda, I know what you mean about being glad to have craft supplies on hand. I don't scrapbook but I do work on stained glass and am so happy I have a stash that I can dig into when the mood strikes. You all have great weekends. I have a yard to get mowed and I'm also babysitting a friends two large dogs for the weekend and they are begging for a walk. How I'm going to walk three big dogs is boggling my mind but I guess I'll give it a shot! Wish me luck! lol! Betsy

Great to hear from you. You've been extremely busy. Between you & CF Freeman's group, I feel like a lazy slug. I have a long list to do, gotta get on it.
Mayflowers, Kitchendetective, OldBat, myself & others have been helping (torturing) MichelleW90 with her backsplash. Remember how many paint samples you tried for us ? She's been much more accommodating and has gotten literally 100 tile samples (eye candy) for us to look at.
Glad you made a full recovery & thanks for the pic of your horse & congrats on the upcoming arrival of the new little one.

Greenhaven, Texasgal here to say thanks for letting me see your four legged sweetheart again! She's such a charmer. And congrats on the expected new grande. However, I'm jealous as have only two.
It's always good to hear from you. What a busy gal you've been! You make me tired just reading about your activities. However, I'm still waiting for your kitchen reveal. Please send me a heads up by email when the big day finally arrives. By the way, so happy to hear you are now feeling better.

Wow you have been busy! You've timed your return well, firsthouse_mp is going to present her reveal in the next couple of weeks. Mtnrdredux posted her belated kitchen reveal, (to which I go back frequently for the paper runner source, love them!). I'm linking hers below. Have you seen romy's lovely reveal? Love the picture of Tuesday in her new field! Very sorry to hear about your being sick, glad you are better.

Thank you for the update. You should be proud of yourself because you have accomplished a lot! That picture of your horse is so peaceful. I was following your paint decision thread and will be eagerly awaiting to see what you end up doing with the beadboard. Your kitchen is so cute already. I cannot wait to see the reveal. Congrats on the new bundle of joy to be.

Thanks all, and yes, the paint for the beadboard and walls, plus installling the "tile rug" is all that is left in the kitchen! Decided togo withcab color on the beadboard, got ithalf repainted and had to refocus elsewhere so it is still half painted, ha ha.

Texas Gal, will absolutely let you know via email when the reveal finally gets posted. After all this time it will seem anticlimactic, but my GW peeps have been so faithful in standing by me through my agony I would not dream of skipping a reveal!

I will try to keep up in the weekly thread, that tends to be difficult for me. I always feel like I leave out recognizing someone! But I do miss you folks, so will check it out right now...

Greenhaven, good to hear from you! You've been tremendously busy. Looks like you've settled into your new homestead quite well. Tuesday couldn't be happier! Congrats on your new grandie; I've got my first arriving in a few months. I've wondered what you were up to!

So many have made great progress since you started the DIY thread. I feel like I've been stuck, but that's ok, my boy is worth it. I spend most of my time with our new addition. He's 5 months old now. He's a nice diversion from trying to decide on pendants-ugh! Can't wait to see more pix of your progress!

Gorgeous boy, bbtrix! And congrats on the grandie! We love being grandparents! I have greatly appreciated the distractions from my kitchen. It has really helped me garner some perspective.
