Just checking in!

Hi everybody! It's been awhile since I've posted. Been down in the dumps and haven't been able to shake it. Nothing major going on - but the economy has me pretty worried. At least fuel prices have dropped some so that helps and I did finally find a job that I love even though the salary is much less than we have been accustomed to. When I was laid off last spring I thought I'd have no problem finding decent employment right away, but it actually took many months. Anyway, I'm working but all non-essential spending in this house has come to a screeching halt. Some weeks it's even tough to manage the essentials! OK, enough whining from me.

I think about you all often and hope everyone is well. I've been reading the KT now and then but haven't felt up to posting. I see Nicole and Stacie have new babies and that's always uplifting!!! And Stephanie will be adding a new little girl to her family before we know it! Way to go girls! I'm looking forward to the KT Christmas card exchange. That is always so much fun. Thanks to Tami for organizing that once again. I always send to everyone in every group, but this year I am sad to say I can only mail to my group:(

Didn't I say enough whining from me? OK I'll stop now. LOL!

I've been reading the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer. Had to see what all the hype was about. I've enjoyed what I've read so far (the first 3 books) even if they are a bit "high school". I may be old but I can still relate to that "forbidden love". Bella gets on my nerves with all the drama, but I'm still anxious to read the 4th book!

((Betsy))!!!Glad to see you. I've been wondering where you were. I 'm right there with you in the don't feel like posting dept.,so I've been lurking and enjoying everyone's good news and sad with the not so good news.
How does your garden grow?
I've gotta run, we are headed to a plant sale at Heathcote Botanical Gardens in FT Pierce.

Hi Betsy and msmarion. It's good to see both of you. Betsy, I'm sorry you weren't able to find a better paying job. I sure hope the economy will pick up in the very near future. It has affected all of us.

I haven't been reading anything lately. I've been working on scrapbooks the past few weeks. I was working on these same ones several years ago, but I had to give it up because we were working too much overtime at that time. I'm glad I bought some papers and other supplies over the years to use when I had time to do it again. They are coming in mighty handy now.

I've been lurking some lately, but not posting much. It seems like when I start posting I find myself here way too much some days. I'll probably be back more often in a few weeks.

I eat chickweed more like a potherb than a medicinal, but I cook/bake with herbs much more than I make medicinal preparations. I agree about henbit tasting like dirt. I think purple deadbeats tastes a little better, but I don't like the texture. I tried pursuance once and liked it, but it doesn't grow naturally in my yard. Gonna plant some seeds this year, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Lambsquarter is popping up everywhere this year. After 7 years on the property, 1 wild lambsquarter showed up last year and I let it go to seed. Silly me...I wasn't expecting it to reseed quite so well. Good thing I like to eat it.

Oh the tile is so beautiful and I LOVE how it looks but I see what you're saying; from what you've shown, the darker contrast has more of a kick. Wonder if you could wipe it down really well to remove a little, and then grout with a darker grout? Or - a quick search showed this - perhaps a good fix? I would highly recommend applying to a sample board before you apply to your actual grout. Apply Enhancing Sealer Apply enhancing sealer to help darken the color of dry grout. Although it may never be as dark as it was before it dried, the sealer will help deepen the color and block stains. The most common grout sealers will not darken grout because they are formulated to dry invisibly. Check the label to be sure yours is an enhancing sealer. There are also lots of threads about applying a stain to the grout and wiping it off, to darken. Would you be willing to post a picture of the range wall with the tile grouted, for comparison? Your kitchen is GORGEOUS.

I don't know the name (have only handful of cacti), but have few suggestions. Brownish bottom looks like corking, and that is normal for many cacti. But smell doesn't sounds very good. I would unpot it - it may be difficult to take it out of that recurved pot - and check the roots. They could be damaged. If so, they could regrow if plant is healthy enough. It jwould need to be potted in different pot and probably different mix (one that drains well). The color doesn't look right either. Rotting plant could send out new shoots, so if main plant is sick, it tries to 'replace' itself. They could be left where they are, or if original plant is sick, they may be potted separately. As for pot, it is much better to use regular pot, plastic or other, that is not recurved. Attached saucer is also not allowing for good drainage. I had few of the same type, and threw them out..

Marion, my garden is great. I'm finally (after 3 years) starting on the front yard renovation. Got all the ugly shrubs out and have expanded the beds that were only about two feet wide up against the house. Around the front walkway I expaned the small narrow bed to a large (about 10 feet) rounded area. DH put in new Malibu lights and a new yard lamp that we've had forever! I transplanted a palm from the backyard along with a native firebush (hamelia patens) and three clumps of purple fountain grass. It's looking great so far and I'll probably spend most of the winter working on it a bit at a time.

Linda, I know what you mean about being glad to have craft supplies on hand. I don't scrapbook but I do work on stained glass and am so happy I have a stash that I can dig into when the mood strikes.

You all have great weekends. I have a yard to get mowed and I'm also babysitting a friends two large dogs for the weekend and they are begging for a walk. How I'm going to walk three big dogs is boggling my mind but I guess I'll give it a shot! Wish me luck! lol!
