Comments (12)Those Association fees and their rules can be a bit much, and that's why we didn't buy property like that ourselves. As I age, I am very leery of anything that would add unnecessary costs as I become more elderly. So glad to get your update, as I think of you guys often, and hope the bumpy road will be much smoother soon. So exciting to think of building a new house! You can include features that you didn't have before, etc. And a brand spankin' new kitchen ..... I would love that! Mine needs remodeled now but I refuse to borrow the money to have it done. Eventually I'll figure out a way, even if I have to go back to work part time to pay for it. When I had the money to do it 10 years ago, I put the money into my yard and garden instead ...... imagine that LOL. At least I do have a mature garden now :-) Best wishes to you, Carol & the kids, Kirk. I know things will be hectic and busy, but it will also be very exciting! ~tenderlee...See MoreUPDATE: Cassie's Oct Check-In on Secret Swap
Comments (47)Hi, Y'all-- Whew!! What a week! Sorry I haven't been posting in the last few days, but my sister has been visiting from North Carolina since last Monday (11-7). She only gets out here to Texas about once a year, so when she's here, naturally every last minute of my time gets used up. Even though we've become "scatterlings" in adulthood, my siblings (2 little sisters, 1 "little" brother) and I are still very close, and although we all talk frequently on the phone, it's just not the same as actual visits. Anyway, Cathe's flying back home to the Asheville area this morning, and I'm now trying to catch up on this computer (I have 334 messages--mostly "junk" I suspect--in my Inbox!!!!!). Well, Marsha, to confirm your suspicions, yes, I was/am sending to Debi, and I've been pretty sure for the last couple of months that you were the one sending to me. And, Debi, you'll be receiving a private e-mail from me. I've been taking pics of most of the things I sent to Debi, and here are a few of the items: For April, a gardener's apron-- In May, I sent Debi some hand-tatted doilies and 3 sachets that had tatted "medallions" on the front (sorry...didn't take pics of those). June was a "garden hose" wreath, along with her "Summer" mini-bouquet (I've been sending seasonal mini-bouquets, one for "Spring", "Summer", "Fall" and yet-to-come "Winter", all year)-- July was a table runner and matching placemats, (sorta) hand-painted to match the color of Debi's kitchen-- And for August, an arrangement of paper flowers made out of the brown paper from chicken feed bags-- I got in too big of a hurry in September, and didn't get pics of those items, either, but I'll try to remember before I send her October gift, and post those pics if anyone is interested... Well, I guess I need to close this and try to muddle through all those messages in my Inbox that await my attention. Best regards to all, this has been WAY too much fun!! Comments (50)This is where I am at, DH seeÂs us remodeling kitchen in three or more years and I see us remodeling our kitchen in the next year or earlier. So, Right now I am more in the process of elimination as far as cabinet brands go. Many earlier brands have been eliminated due to size issues as in I want and need deeper and taller wall cabinets and prefer little to no fillers. Also, cost has been a big factor. I have a basic idea of layout but need help in changing the nook area and windows. Some appliances will be reused but we will replace refrigerator with the kichenaid 42" built-in French door paneled and replace the microwave with the adventium. I have the countertop narrowed down to three or four and know exactly what I want for the backsplash, still unsure of wall splash behind stove though. The kitchen sink has been narrowed down to two choices and cab hardware to three. I know what I want for lighting but havenÂt found exactly the right one, I will know it when I see it. Still tossing around the idea of wood range hood verses stainless. The doors of my dreams are simple $$$applied moulding but with most likely end up with nice raised panel for style of home. Husband thinks I spend way too much time thinking of and planning for the kitchen....See MoreMid-Remodel People, Check in Here, How's it Going- THREAD 2
Comments (35)I have hesitated to post here because I have been mid-remodel longer than most of you have been alive...(ok maybe a two year remodel isn't that long...) anyhoo, I finally feel, that since we're six weeks or so away from completition, may be I can post in the mid-remodel groups thread :oP Tile guy finished the shower and floor (this is an entire house remodel, from bottom to top, adding a bathroom and moving many walls and soffits). So my master actually looks somewhat like a bathroom and my evil plans are actually coming to fruition (I used crocodile tile and I both worried about it and loved it...now everyone loves it) :oP The deck of the soaking tub can't be finished until we get the circle cut in the tiles (since the last tile guy lost part of the circle we had cut earlier). There's on guy in the state who cuts these circles...it's a pain! So that room can't have cabinets or anything until the deck is finished since they butt up against the tub (which is 36" high). So tile guy is heading down to the family bathroom, which after THREE tubs that leaked, is finally plumbed with a new jacuzzi tub (I will never try to save money with american standard AGAIN!) I should have just dropped a couple grand in the first place instead of giving it to the plumbers. That room will likely be finished this week :) The powder room floor is done and the toilet set, but still waiting for parts to actually work. (The old plumbers didn't know how to install so they cut the expensive pipes down to shorter pipes and installed the "high tank" very low on the wall). But it's the only room that's actually plastered, so it looks to be "done" almost. I will finish the move out this week on Friday, but between then and today I will get the first couple of coats of venetian plaster on the hood wall in the kitchen (a bear to reach if I don't do it now...since there's less than 12" in the gap...once trimmed out...my butt won't fit) :oP Next week our finish carpenter is ours full time, so while I'm gone, he'll be laying down the layout, repairing the floor and finally setting cabinets! When I get back I might feel like I have a kitchen. ANd hopefully I will have new granite and marble by then. (The previous slabs I purchased in full were sold so I have to start over). All in all...we feel so good about seeing work actually happen. We can see that we'll actually get to live in our home again someday! Hopefully for a few months before we have to move out to a bigger home when we have child number two :oP But we'll cross that bridge later I guess!...See MoreCheryl Hewitt
