Do you have carrera marble backsplash? Is it kitchen friendly?
Comments (10)I have a marble slab b-splash behind my range. It's Vermont Danby, and it's very white. My marble is sealed with Porous Plus 511, and I have no problems at all with staining on my b-splash, even when tomato sauce, etc. splatters and I don't notice it/wipe it until the next day. I may be able to find some small oil marks that have been neglected, if I look very closely, but it basically still looks like the day it was installed, about 14 mos. ago. I probably have etches from those types of splashes, but IMO, etches are hard to see on a b-splash unless the light is exactly right. (My counters, on the other hand, are full of very visible etches!) I also have a friend with a carrara tile b-splash, she has a large family and does a lot of cooking. It's been about 3 years, and her b-splash has held up beautifully, and still looks great....See MoreHow important to WAIT until granite in, b4 deciding backsplash?
Comments (17)lowspark, you are a contractor's dream! Our contractor emphasized up-front that most delays are caused by indecisive homeowners, which was true for him because he was so on-the-ball. I can't imagine having everything picked and decided on before starting, but that IS the right way to do it. Because of my contractor's insistence, my KD helped me pick the backsplash before even the cabinets were in. We went to the tile store with a sample of the counter (quartz composite). I'm glad we did, because there were many elements in the backsplash wall that affected the design (a shelf, a niche, outlets, wall where there were no cabinets, transitioning the tile around window trim). Also, some of the tile took a long time to arrive. Actually, now I sort of wish we'd been bolder in the backsplash tile choice, but, it's very nice. So for design reasons, I'd like to choose the backsplash last, but for practical reasons and problem-prevention, I'm glad we didn't. Don't forget grout color! It's so often an afterthought, but it can really make a difference in how things look....See MoreNearly Done U Kitchen w/pix (needs backsplash of course!)
Comments (15)Thank you all for your thoughts and support. The community here helped me pick my granite--I had one really long post with photos and had people give their opinions. Laura, I got it at a company called Cosmos; they are in several cities. Gemini, I love ABBS! Shorter to write, that's for sure. Mizinformation--I am rooting for your success! Our shelves weren't adjustable and given the number of other cabinets we needed, we opted to completely start over. Did you have those wonderful soffits to remove? We all had a turn with the Sawzall at least once. We did save a number of 2x4s from the soffits, and I have pix of my mother-in-law pulling nails out of them. B/S: I am leaning toward a light blue for the backsplash to pick up the color in the granite. I have seen some glass ones I like (kinda spendy for my budget) but now I'm stuck on what I'm doing with my shower. (I'd want all the tile done at the same time.)...See MoreShould I wait to see granite installed before I do backsplash?
Comments (17)I will caution you to be careful with Daltile since I had a very recent, very bad experience. Our tile guy bought what we requested and many things were not in stock. Very long story short, most of it came in little by little over the next few months. After 2.5 or 3 months the master bath floor was still not in (they missed two different dates on this one) and it wasn't going to be in for two more months. Everything else was already installed and designed around this floor and I had to pick something else. Just make sure they actually have it and don't trust any future dates they give you because they are just guesses and you may never get it. Oh, the customer service can't be considered bad since it is completely non existent....See Morebreezygirl
