Another filler needed - how to make use?

I posted on the bathrooms forum a filler question - which was ultimately solved by moving 3" of the filler to where I wanted it, and buying a 3" rev a shelf pullout spice rack. Perfect solution.

Kitchen cabs going in, and a few unexpected filler situations have arisen. On the upper run, they're putting the filler where I would like it and I'm buying another rev a shelf.

Now they just pointed out that the prep sink is not centered under the upper, raised cabinet and needs to scootch down a few inches, hence another filler. Since this filler can either go beside the sink base, or one cab over - i would love a towel pull out for tea towels (but the inside of the space would have to be finished - not sure if that's possible). Anyone have a good towel or utensil pull out? Any good suggestions for a 3-4" space on lower cabs?

I don't know if there is enough room but the only thing really missing from my kitchen reno is a hamper for dirty kitchen towels.

I have a towel holder next to the kitchen sink which is very convenient, and they did finish it on the inside to match the rest of the cabinetry.

I had a space made in the island for an outlet right where I needed it as most appliances have such short cords and I didn't want to have to use extension cords to run a blender or such.

Hi Les, Saving seeds from hybrid tomatoes, may, or may not be worth your while, since they may, or may not come close to being like the parent plant, even if they don't cross pollinate. Occasionally I have let a 'volunteer' tomato plant go ahead and grow and produce tomatoes. I'm usually disappointed by the tomatoes, and think they are probably the result of seed that has dropped from a hybrid tomato. Found this and more at the link below... Using Physical Barriers to Prevent Cross-pollination If you want to be absolutely sure that your tomato seed line remains pure, then you will want to provide a physical barrier to prevent foreign pollen from being introduced. The technique most often used by home growers is called "bagging." It is quite simple but it also is limited with regard to seed production. To "bag" a tomato means to cover the blossoms before they open. Various materials can be used. Some use floating row cover, others use tulle (bridal veil fabric), pieces of nylon stockings, sheer tricot or other lightweight fabric, or bridal favor bags. Depending on the size of the bags used, the bags must be monitored and removed after pollenization so that the tomato can grow to full size without restriction. After removing the bag, mark the fruit with yarn or a string to identify it when it has reached proper maturity for saving seeds. It is difficult to collect large quantities of seed using bagging. Fruits do not always form inside the bag. High temperatures and the lack of mechanical movement can hamper pollenization. Need advice using Insl-x Cabinet Coat and grain filler

Hi - Just wanted to post an update to share my results of using Cabinet Coat on an oak dresser. After using the Timbermate grain filler (which I really liked and was inexpensive), I sanded super super smooth, primed again and then started adding thin coats of Cabinet Coat. At this point, I was sure my surface was pretty perfect and thought finishing up the top coats would be smooth sailing. I researched a lot on the technique and thought I was doing everything right. For the life of me, I could not get the "sprayed on" look. I tried rolling the top of the dresser with various Wooster high quality "no shed" brushes. Unfortunately, they all shed. I tried using only a Chinex brush...and got brush strokes (spoke to soon before). I tried heating the room, heating the paint, different techniques, etc and could just not get it to look sprayed. I finally settled on using a quality foam roller, which left a subtle stipple effect, but I figured that was better than brush strokes since at least the "pattern" is uniform. Now, I will admit, the finished product does look really good and from a short distance looks perfect. I also like the finish and hardness of the paint. But up close it definitely is not a sprayed on finish. I spent A LOT of time trying to get the results I was going for...way way more time than it should ever take to paint a dresser! Ultimately, I'm happy with the result, but felt the Cabinet Coat fell short of the hype. Admittedly, maybe I never got my technique right. But, now I'm wondering...is it really possible to get a true sprayed on look without a sprayer or are my expectations too high? If anyone who uses Cabinet Coat could post a video of their technique, that could be really helpful!!

I see what you mean by the actual width of a CD. I have a skinny one made out of cheap wood that is less than 6" wide, I guess I was thinking that most were that width. The cheapie has thin wooden slats to hold the cds. If I did use a couple of those it would take a lot of dressing up before it looked even halfway decent. The Billy wall shelf WAS on my list of possibilities. Turned on itÂs side, though, at 13 Â¾, itÂs an inch too wide. IÂm going on a field trip to Ikea tomorrow to look for other possibilities, and bring a sample shelf with me to check colors in other lines. I plan to stop at Hobby Lobby too. bronwynsmom, please go ahead! Get carried away! Maybe by brainstorming with all of you IÂll come up with the perfect thing. If I could find a wine rack with solid shelves rather than slats that would be great. The slats make it too obvious that itÂs meant for wine. Given that the room is upstairs, I donÂt think weÂd ever want to store wine there. Gets a little too hot and sunny in the summer. We store our wine in the basement (when itÂs not being used up too quickly to be stored). But that gives me another search term I can use. Possibilities! When I was redoing my kitchen a few years back I remember looking into a unit that would go horizontally underneath a cabinet that has small niches or cubbies. I think it was called a spice drawer unit. You could order it with or without drawers, or small wicker baskets. I dropped the idea then, because it was really expensive. Maybe I can find one again, without drawers, just shelves. WHY does every project I start turn out to be so COMPLICATED?!? And itÂs always some stupid little thing that stalls it.

Pot filler: need or no need?

I debated it, and ultimately decided not to do it. My prep sink is just across the aisle, though. I think this is key: What else is in your personal kitchen? I don't think it's fair to make a blanket statement such as "Yes, pot fillers are wonderful -- everyone needs one" or "No, pot fillers are a complete waste" without knowing where the other water source is located ... without knowing what types of things the family typically cooks ... and, in general, without considering the whole make-up of the kitchen. A related consideration: Where's your plumbing? If adding a pot filler would mean bringing plumbing across the kitchen for this one item, I'd say no. On the other hand, my stove will be on the other side of the wall that already houses the washer /dryer ... so I'll already have water running through that wall, making a pot filler a much less expensive item. I figure it's just a bit more exercise for the few times a month we need a larger pot of water. Plus a bigger issue to me is when I dump the water, my glasses fog up. Anyone have a solution for that? If the question were just about pots of water (as in pasta cooking), yeah, I'd agree ... but I make a pitcher of iced tea every other day, and I cook lots of soups; those things don't require dumping the water. As for glasses, everyone in my family is dependent upon corrective lenses, and if a solution for this fogging-up problem exists, none of us know it. And the reality is, I'm strong and certainly have no issues with moving a large pot of water from the sink to the range. At the moment, I can say the same, but I'm building a retirement house, and -- considering the lifespans of my grandmother and other women in my family -- I expect to be on this earth another 50 years. Will I always be as capable as I am today? At some point, no. My conclusion: A pot filler is a nice thing to have, if it's practical for your kitchen; however, it is a nice little luxury -- far from a necessity.

Now I'm getting a bit desperate. KD wants a decision yesterday about what to do with that filler. I have searched and searched and so far have not found an attractive dish towel holder (except for those that you'd put under a sink cabinet). If anyone can help with something that will go in a 3" filler space, max 22" deep, I would be so very grateful.

Ideally, I'm looking for a stainless steel finish, not chrome. Thanks!

Durasupreme has this really nice one but I don't know if they sell just the pull-out. Might be something you'll need to have custom made.

But why is it your job to find the holder? Isn't that what we pay KD for?

mayflower - not a clue! i guess it's because i want to use the space and wish to decide how to use it. I love the durasupreme, and yes it may require custom. Not sure yet.

I'm fine with an open, finished area, but really want to find something attractive enough to be seen all the time. I think the revashelf is more to be hidden.

Meant to add...just b/c the pullout is meant to go under a sink does not mean it cannot be used in an enclosure like AnnieDeighnaugh's.

At the very least, it will give you what you want, functionally, and you can continue to look for one that you like better with no pressure. Besides, it will be quite a while until you'll be ready for it...so tell the KD you'll buy the insert (the RAS is only around $30 on their site & probably cheaper elsewhere) and then keep looking.

May_Flowers...a drawback I see to that type of towel holder is that you will be closing up an area with a wet towel and there won't be any air circulation to keep that cabinet "fresh". I would be concerned that over time it would get musty/mildewy if damp towels are constantly being stored there and b/c the cabinet is closed it will never adequately air out - both for the towel to dry and to get rid of the humid air created by the damp towel.
