Help me choose a cabinet color / Maple with glaze or Cherry

I know everyone is probably sleep but I'm having a meltdown about cabinet color.

My cabinetmaker is coming tomorrow to measure for a cabinet modification. He's expecting me to put in my order tomorrow and I'm just not ready.

I've been dreaming about maple cabinets with glaze and highlights for years. Now that it's time for the remodel I'm second guessing myself. Everyone I've asked seems to think the cherry would look better and would be more timeless. Everyone also seems to think that the cherry provides more contrast in the space.

I think it looks pretty. The big question is which do you like better today? I found I actually changed things because with all the years to plan, I had gotten tired of things I never even had, lol....
I'd worry more about not regretting getting what you love, whichever that is....

The kitchen you want from the catalog is on page 19 or 20? Page 19 has a kitchen with maple cabinets with a glaze and page twenty has cherry cabinets. I personally think that the glazed cabinets are beautiful and you have to be happy with your kitchen, you are the one that lives there and will be using it everyday. You don't want to regret your decision because you are pleasing everyone but yourself. What color countertops are you doing? I think the floors are kind of light with the glazed cabinetry but it depends on your countertop choice.

FYI - we have 6 yr old Kraftmaid natural cabinets (custom) inherited from the PO. Bought new appliances & had to order a new, deeper cab for over the stove/microwave. After > 2 mths, the cabinet came and it was BLONDE not "yellow" as the older cabinets. Thankfully, the store ordered the wrong dimensions so we were able to send it back, but now we are crushed...new microwave that is still in the box mths later! No fan over the stove! Unfortunately, the fan for the stove is under the microwave or I'd just buy a vent hood or something. Can't find a mix 'n match (maple + darker cabinets) that uses maple. I found an article on the WWW where one can set the cabinet out in the sun to age it and check it hourly until it is the shade to match our other. Has anyone else tried this? Also found different advice from sanding and refinishing to tainting shellac and can honestly say am not remotely interested in those, i.e., we're at the tail end of major renovations (inside & out)& just do not have the will to start another project. New - matching - kitchen cabinets were not part of the budget. Any words of wisdom are appreciated.

I went with glazing on both my cherry perimeter cabinets and also the cream island. The cherry is stained in chestnut with a black glaze and the island is frosty white with a van dyke brown glaze. The pics show my sample doors and the actual bottom of my wood range hood. The cream cabinet is my island sink base. I am glad I went with the glazing as it really brings out the details. My cherry cabinets are a raised paned with applied moulding. Hope this helps. Here is a link that might be useful:

Flipping through magazines and clipping picutres here on GW can really help. You can clip by saving to your "Clippings" the scissors on the upper right corner of your post. Visit FKB (Finished Kitchens blog) look at all the cherry and brown kitchens you can find to see what you like. I tend to agree with you that a cool brown not cherry is going to be easier to work with than a red cherry color. But this is just my personal love of wood tones. Keep in mind colors of floor, walls, counters, and the lighting will all add to the way the colors work. Meanwhile here are some different toned woods. Maybe you husband can start looking at what he loves the most and perhaps the two of you can find a dream kitchen. ~boxerpups Cherry Here are both woods used. A reddish tone and a warm brown island. please help w/granite for maple/mocha glaze cabs and cherry floor

Thanks all for the recommendations. I do like a granite w/movement. Today I came across a granite that I absolutely LOVED, called Cream (or Crema) Bordeaux. The particular slabs I saw had swirls of cranberry and bluish gray with a slight green color, in addition to the light brown/beige. Is it okay to go w/a granite that is a similar color to the cabinets yet has other colors involved? Also, I don't have much counter space to cover other than a 60-inch island. There will only be three small pieces to cover against the walls. I'm kind of afraid that when they cut the template they won't get all the same colors in each piece, making it look like a different granite on each piece. Make sense? I love this granite b/c I think it would incorporate the colors in my family room which is open to the kitchen. Thanks again for your help! I do like the colors that were recommended and also saw a slab of Yellow River, but I think it was too yellow.

I think those cabinets are so pretty and elegant but they are cherry and you wanted maple? Or is cherry just the finish?

Those cabinets with the tile you picked out will look fantastic together!

Go with what you want and what YOU envision for YOUR space.

Whoops! The cabinets I absolutely love are shown on page 18 (page 20 of the pdf).

Page 32 (page 34 of the pdf) are the cherry cabinets that everyone loves.

Epressler, I also think the floors are kind of light. I'm kind of stuck on that one because the flooring covers the kitchen, foyer, and garage entry. I tried darker tile samples but the front entry just looked like a dungeon.

This is your kitchen and nobody else's. Those people telling you to get cherry?- when they are remodeling their kitchen then they can get cherry. In the meantime definitely get what you want.
The pdf. page and the catalogue page aren't matching. Which description are you actually looking at?

That's what I was hoping - the windham maple with the hazelnut finish. Those are beautiful - choose them and don't second guess yourself. They will look very classy against the floor.
By the way - us west coast people are still up and always looking to offer advice/opinions/handholding at night as well.:)

They are both beautiful. I'd go with the color you like better. They are both elegant. We can't predict the future of fashion. Quality and basic design principles always win over time. Color and type of door fronts are so personal. Go for what you want.

Love your maple cabinets. Think they have some cheerful golden undertones yet are still a classic formal look. I don't think you will regret these.

How much light does your kitchen have? As much as I like cherry, it can be a little dark.
