do lighting fixtures need to match?

I have a very common open kitchen layout with an island (planning on putting pendants above it) and kitchen table not too far away-having trouble finding a chandelier I like to go with the pendants-pendants are seeded glass with matte black and a bit of copper (uttermost gelati pendant) and i don't care for the chandelier that goes with it. it seems so many chandeliers have lighting that goes up instead of down. so the real question is how bad would it be if I chose a black chande with frosted glass? thanks for any help.

Not only do they not need to match, you will end up with a more interesting mix of lighting if you don't go with the matching set.

They do need to work together and the glass should be the same if they are close together so the answer depends on how much glass is in the chandelier and whether you see both at the same time.

I looked up the Uttermost Gelati and saw they are small so the glass difference might not be too much of a problem.

I think that ORB is the go-with-jsut-about-everything finish. It works with the golden tones in brass and copper, and contrasts nicely with the cooler finishes like nickel, chrome, stainless, etc. In my remodel, I am using ORB (the dark kind) and mixing it with a chrome faucet, and mercury glass. I think your choice will be fine! Just don't throw a third really different finish into the mix, and it will look great.

I don't mean to takeover this post but I am having a dilemma with my light for my island and my dining room table. My table is a simple cherry table with ladder back chairs and natural hickory wood floors and I am painting the room benjamin moore revere pewter. I really want a chandelier to soften the dining room given all of the wood. I thought that the uttermost fascination would work. However, you can see my kitchen island from the dining room so I think I need something a pendant for the island that will complement the dining room light. My island cabinets are white dove with calcutta marble.Any suggestions for a light for the island and one for the dining room?

hmmm, not sure. The finish for sure matches, but the top one has much more graceful curves and the wrought iron is rounded. The second one has tighter curves and the iron is flatter. JMHO I think it depends on how close together they will hang. I think that overall what you are describing sounds very nice and either would be a nice addition. I am just not so sure that they are a match together. There aren't any matches (i.e more in the collection) to the top one you are in love with?

The space is currently under construction so no photos yet....it's a blank slate. I think that's one of the reasons I'm having such a hard time picking something out. Light wood floors. Casual look.
