To paint some old bedroom furniture that I have stored which is Mediterranean. I want to replace a bedroom of furniture that I have with that. I know it will not blend as well with my house but that's okay --- it's great furniture and I will enjoy seeing it. It was our first bedroom suite, Thomasville from long ago when it was great furniture.

To figure out a way to remove the glued on Stop, Yield and assorted street signs from the ceiling in one of our upstairs rooms... without destroying the ceiling too terribly. A previous owner's kid had this clever idea for decorating his room. We're paying the price.

Let's see:

New lamps for the living room.

Clean the baseboards and re-paint them. Sigh. ((that ain't gonna be pretty ....... ))

Clean and re-paint the window seats in the kitchen and dining room.

Get the windows fixed.

Wow, all of you are so articulate in stating clear goals. My goal is modest - to redecorate my whole house LOL from top to bottom starting with my powder rorom living and dining rooms and moving through the house. I hope to be finished by the summer.

New Year's Decorating Resolutions:

To add framed pictures on my walls (Master Bedroom, Family Room, & Home Office), some silk flowers (added one already that I won on EBay that is nice) to my bedroom (want one more vase), sheers with a decorative rod to my Master Bedroom, and continue to make my spare bedroom that has exercise equipment and personal files look pretty.

I also have a New Year's Resolution in being in bed at a reasonable hour. It is now 12:19 AM and I am still up. I want to start to be in bed by 11 PM every night and never be up after 2:30 AM for an auction unless I can sleep in a little bit the next day and it is an item to die for.

To finish (completely finish) one project before starting a new one.

Then again, had I not failed at last year's same resolution, I wouldn't have 7 major projects half finished as I type.

So, I'll finish each of the 7 half-done projects first.
THEN I'll start painting the paneling in the family room.

Going back to more DIY and looking for bargains! I splurged this year on the first level and had a contractor handle everything. In 2008, I am going to tackle the second level and scrape all the ceilings (bye-bye popcorn), do lots of painting and organizing. I might even paint my garage.

Hang my artwork. I have tons of prints stuffed under the beds, behind the sofas, leaning against the walls, sitting on chairs and counters. I have a severe case of hang-o-phobia, probably because no matter how long I plan, I somehow manage to get the art in the wrong spot and end up needing to move it several times, creating a swiss-cheese effect on my walls. I think my subconscious has decided that leaving the art propped somewhere for months (or years...gulp) will somehow make the magical perfect spot clear to me, LOL! I'm tired of moving propped up artwork every time I want to sit down on the living room sofa - it's time to get out the hammer....

Besides that, I want to repaint my entire public area - kitchen, foyer, stairways, hallways, etc. It's still in the builder's white paint and after 9 years and 2 little kids, it looks AWFUL. Painting the walls won't be bad, but there's a TON of trim (tall baseboards, big window casings, crown molding, stair balusters, etc.) - it's probably going to take me all year. Ugh.

Oh and when I'm done with all that, I resolve not to say I wish I had chosen a different color, LOL!

lkplatow - I have the same fear! We moved in in August and I had only hung one thing -- on a nail that was already there. That is until DH reminded me my family would be here for the holidays and we HAD to hang some things. We spent about two hours earlier this week and got 14 pieces hung. It looks great! I still have several things that just don't go in this house (and need some new things) but I'm so glad he pushed me out of my inertia.

The big task for 2008 will be what to do with the other side of the dining room space once the Christmas tree is down. We never realy dealt with the space before because surplus furniture was piled in there. But Craigslist took care of most of that, then the tree went up . . . Now we're about to have a big blank area. (No, DH, we will NOT get a pool table!)

Get my bathroom done!

To get rid of decor items I'm not using and have stored away in closets and in storage boxes. I have become overwhelmed by the "things" I have collected over the years and need to pare down.

My resolution is also to weed out. I have a basement and garage full of good intentions (furniture needing refinishing/reupholstery, prints and wall decor that didn't quite "work", etc.) I actually just listed my old the shield back dining room chairs on Craig's List and have a buyer coming New Year's day. I also sold DD's cheapo teen bedroom set (she's living in an apartment now). I'm going to do an inventory and see what's worth trying to sell, but the rest is going to the Goodwill.

We need to make a decision on our stairs. I don't know if we're going to put in hardwoods or just find a carpet that the cats don't enjoy clawing as much as the current berber.
We've bought the hardwoods for the upstairs hall, so that will be installed. The only thing else is to pick a fabric for the shower curtain in the guest bath and get some towels to match.

Finish the dang house remodel! BOTH OF THEM! One by May, the other gad by September???

To complete the window treatments in the master (I've put up the new rods and drapes...I just need to finish the vision with the shades underneath).

To look through my attic and storage areas and make some serious "keep/not" decisions. For example, I've never used a sterling silver chafing dish. It's still carefully wrapped to keep it from tarnishing. I don't use my Noritake Holly china. I don't use my Noritake Heather china. Those are from a previous marriage.

To finish decorating the guest room. The bedding and WTs are done. But, I have antique and vintage costume prints sitting on the floor of the closet. I just don't know if I love them enough to hang them.

Not purchase anything else for the kitchen until I see what we find in southern France in May.

Clear out paperback books from the library and donate them.

Starting January 10th, we are having the entire downstairs painted. We have lived here for 9 years, and the whole house is builder beige. We are also getting rid of the wallpaper in the kitchen, and the "box" light fixture in there.

I want to finish cleaning the garage and continue to pare down closets and junk. DH is a packrat!

Find a new rug for my entry way.

Hello all! I've been lurking for a while but this is my first post. Thanks to all of you for inspiring me this year!

My theme for 2008 is Finishing - finishing the projects we've started and abandoned, adding finishing touches in rooms that are substantially done, and learning to recognize when a task is finished (meaning, I can be happy with completing the walls, accessories and staircase in the foyer, even knowing that adding new flooring isn't on the list for 2008).

To close my eyes to the latest trends that keep me from finishing the last trend!

lynn2006, why don't you use a sniper program that does your last-minute bidding for you so you don't need to stay up too late? I use Auctionstealer.com, which gives you three free snipes per week, and just love the convenience.

My #1 resolution is to finish unpacking! LOL We moved in September and still have two rooms crammed with boxes, although one of them (the library) will be dealt with tomorrow. I want to get the guest room at least functional and semi-presentable (minimal piles o' stuff) so my Mama can come down to visit in the spring and not have to sleep on the couch!

Another priority is having the cushions made for the Morris chair - I have four different fabrics on the way from fabricguru to choose from!

Get those rassenfrackin' curtain rods put up in the LR (we just keep putting it off, maybe I'll ask DH to do it for my birthday present) since I've been dying for those beautiful embroidered faux-silk curtains to be up for about two months! They need to be hemmed up but once I have them pinned to the right length the dry cleaner says they'll be done in a week. Also on the window treatment front I need to get blinds for the kitchen's sitting room (DH wants the same blinds as we have in the LR), hooks and rings for the lace curtains I got for the hallway, and perhaps think some about the soft stuff, curtains or just toppers, for the sitting room and kitchen windows.

I also want to get a loveseat for the living room, as well as fill out the furniture in the kitchen's sitting room: coffee table, end tables, and couple of comfy chairs properly scaled for the room. Craigslist here I come!
