I think the second one would work well. They both have relatively the same mount and white glass. The only difference is the round and square shades.

Both pendants look too contemporary for the flush mount. The difference is in the details of each more than the finish. I would try to find a pendant with a little more vintage look if the flushmount is what you are trying to match.

I'd like to see a pendant that doesn't flair quite as much. It doesn't have to mimic the shape exactly, just a little more squared off or something that comes down slightly on the bottom.

I love both of those pendants. Do you mind saying where you got them?

Anyway, I like them both a lot. They have a retro industrial chic thing. I agree the flushmount doesn't match as is. Do I look for a different shade or different fixture?

Look at Wilmette Lighting. I have fallen in love with a bunch of their pendants, and they are similar to what you've shown.

I'm in lighting hell right now, myself. (I consider it hell; others seem to like choosing, but dang.)

Since you are sticking with the pendants from anthropologie, I'm assuming you want the updated retro/vintage look they have going and not just pure retro.

How high are your ceilings? You are picking semi flush mounts that hang down. Will that work with pendants also hanging down?

I really like the first one- though I would love it if it didn't have such a wide brim.I agree with remodelfla-- and I really don't think you have to choose something so similar to the flushmounts you have selected already..just my (late) 2 cents.

Well, I canceled the previous flushmounts. Too retro. Steff, I think you nailed it. Updated vintage and a bit rustic is what I'm after. The kitchen is rather subdued, so will have chrome hardware and I'd like chrome in the fixtures to get a little sparkle.

There will be two pendants, over the sink and in the middle over a table probably. Around the perimeter are several flushmounts and I'd like them small. I'm taking the advice of a designer and doing that instead of cans for the old house look. (Hate cans anyway.) Ceilings are a little over 8 feet, I believe.

I'm leaning toward pendant #2, but I'm still looking, just in case.

Sorry...I'm avoiding cleaning by online browsing for lights. This is much more fun. I love the schoolhouse flushmounts (both your squared and the more usual round ones). I've found some really pretty mercury pendants that are probably too small for what you're looking for at mothology.com. This site has some beautiful, reasonably priced vintage-looking lights.

It's not hard to find GORGEOUS pendants, is it? The harder thing I'm finding, is finding small flushmounts. I think I'll go with the simple ones I found at Rejuvenation (above) and maybe change out the shade when I choose the pendants. Whenever that may be...I will post photos eventually.

I like this last one, especially because it is a different shape. In the blog I linked to there is a photo of a room with pendants and bare bulb type flush mounts on the ceiling. Bare bulbs on the ceiling is a little too much industrial chic for most homes, but this shape gives a similar feeling while it still looks like a finished room.

Hmm. Maybe even this? It's small, 6" diameter.

segbrown - love that! mercurygirl - you don't have to match the shades. In fact, not matching is better if you find things that work together. The globe is okay, but not interesting enough to give you the look you are going for.

Lighting seems to be one of those things like so many other choices, when you see the right one--you absolutely know it.

I actually like the first flush mount you showed. Was it from rejuvenation.com? They have the pendants that match it--saw it in a magazine....
