I was helping my inlaws pull down decorations this weekend - 2 flights of stairs & they are elderly....spotted this coffee table covered in filth & spiderwebs. Went ummmmmmmm

I have been wanting a coffee table for my sitting room - looking around at antique stores not really finding anything - especially in my price range.

So, I am pleased with this room. I think the table really pulled it all together. You all have helped me so much & we have changed pictures/ mirrors, brought in a tapestry - moved buffets, switched the direction of the rug, etc & it has been so much fun! Still have to find a lampshade for lamp in corner....

Of course, I will always tweak & play.....leaving my buffet open for desserts & coffee for Christmas.

Got the slipcovers before Thanksgiving...

Thank you all so much, I couldn't have done this without you!! I even thought about painting it red!!

de, I don't think you should be having so much trouble keeping your soil moist overnight. I'm wondering if you moistened the mix (specifically the peat) when you combined the ingredients. The peat can be problematic. Personally, I just put a small hole in the bag, and put the hose into it for a while to moisten the peat (let it sit a day or more afterwards) before I add it to the mix. If you didn't moisten the peat before you put your seeds in, chances are that the mix is just very dry (and dry peat will allow the water to flow through, rather than be absorbed). If that is the case, you will need to give your mix a LOT of water, slowly so as to not wash out your seeds. But, at the same time, you may not have success anyway, if the mix isn't moist anyway.

I'm back! I wanted to get back to you about my trip, especially because all of you were so nice to help. I am sorry to say, that time went by so quick, we didn't get to do all we wanted to do. Friday night went to Mr. Chow's-and then to The Polo Lounge, which was being renovated, so another club was set up in the hotel. It was much too crowded, got one drink and back to our hotel. Saturday went to Rodeo Drive and to eat pizza at a place on Melrose called Mozza's, I think. It was VERY good! We had a couple of drinks at the Beverly Wilshire, L.A. Reid was at the next table. Then went back to hotel to get ready for the Clive Davis Grammy Party, which was being held at our hotel, so we wanted to see all the celebriites go in and out. Saw so many, and to name a few: Joan and Melissa Rivers, Joan Collins, Gayle King, Hoda Kotbe (sp?), Kelsey Grammer (and his new young wife)-sorry, he just grosses me out, Magic Johnson, Brandy, P Diddy, Miley Cyrus, Melanie Griffith, Yolanda (RHBH) and David Foster, Sting and wife, Trudy, Tyra Banks, and so many more. A lot of them were young artists, and I didn't even know who they were until someone mentioned it. It was fun! I cannot believe how skinny the women are! Have to be a size 0, not to mention tall and long legs, so they really are thin-too thin, IMO. Sunday, went to brunch at the Four Seasons, and to dinner at Mastro's then on to the Justin Timberlake concert. It was suppose to start at 9p and it didn't start until 11:30, which I thought was ridiculous! I truly would have left if my friend wasn't so inlove with him! Got home so late and was tired and left the next day! I am sorry we didn't make it to The Stinking Rose! Someone on the plane said they smelled like garlic all weekend after eating there, so we were a little afraid to go there and then to the events we were going to attend. But, would have loved to have gone there. Oh, somewhere in there we did go to the Farmers Market for awhile. We had already had brunch so wasn't hungry. I had never been to the Walk of Fame, so we went there for a little while one day. Marlene, so glad you mentioned for us to stay at the Beverly Hilton instead of the Roosevelt! We did walk through the Roosevelt, very dark place. We went to have a drink and appetizer at Sur, but, they were filming, so never even got in the door. Had fun and was exhausted, and my feet have been tortured walking in heels all night-how do people do that??? Glad to be back home!

Penny, the planning is worth it! I took that extra pair of shoes and we had safety pins and bandaids and we NEEDED them! We didn't use the chalk or the tape etc but if we had needed them, we would have had them there which is half the battle for 'emergencies'! If I had it to do over....hmmm, well one thing I cannot stress enough is DOUBLE and TRIPLE check with all your vendors a few weeks ahead of the date and the week before! My florist was wonderful but she made a few minor (thankfully!) mistakes like forgetting to take out one boutenier I had to cancel when we rearranged the wedding party after my husbands friends couldn't come out to be in the wedding but the tux thing (shop suddenly said they couldn't get what he needed a week before the wedding!)could have been a nightmare if Jim, (my DH)hadn't found another place that could fit him in less than a week! So keep checking those vendors and pack an emergency kit! Yes, jenny, that's the one! Made me cry halfway through and after I'd just got dried up from my husband's announcement to me....but I loved it! It was the sweetest thing...sigh... Thanks gellchom and Springbride! Yes, it was pretty much without a hitch! LOL, I even got to the church ON TIME despite our not being ready at the house when the photographer arrived! Even the video a friend set up (he was also a groomsman so couldn't hand shoot the whole thing) came out really nicely! To all of you here who've been posting- Thanks so much for your help and advice and especially the support when things were rough, I really appreciate it and can't thank you enough! This is one fantastic wedding site and it has a lot of truly caring and wonderful people! I've added a link to a set of pictures my husband did up quickly today. She is quite sick, and it is important that she get the rest, hydration and meals she needs. How fortunate she is to have a loving mother to help out. Jeff's girlfriend sounds like a fine person as well. Family helps family when the need arises. I don't think pneumonia is contagious, but strep is, so if you handle things she has handled be sure to wash your hands. Can she sleep in her own room separate from others? I bet she will feel much better in a few days. If not, call the dr. How old is the baby?

Lucky you!! That is such a harmonious room. The table looks like it was always there. I miss the "old days" when every grandma had an attic full of treasures.

Drat! I am so jealous that your parents and inlaws all have such fabulous stuff collecting dust in their attics. We don't even have attics or basements out here! I love how you've pulled this room together and the slipcovers are TDF! BTW, are those suede mats on the two pictures by the neeked lamp? I really like them. I think I'm going to go that route with my picture--just wanting for the samples to come in.

Get Out! That coffee table was attic fodder? It looks made for your sitting room. Actually everything in the room goes perfectly together. I have copied and pasted for inspiration. Will your inlaws be able to come and see what you have done with the table? or are they too frail? I bet they will be tickled with that "old thing" in your room.

Since we have all worked on this room - I thought I'd show a somewhat finished picture.

I pretty much had everything already....I had the slipcovers made. The upholstery underneath is still really nice - neutral but I was desiring a strong pattern in the room. I love the french ladies:)

Paint color is BM Wilmington tan.

Val, those mats are not suede. Just kinda swirly looking. I'll get you a closer pic of some suede matting that I have.

Parma, my inlaws aren't that frail....I just didn't want them dragging down 2 flights of stairs. My MIL is very, very active. She is so artistic & loves decorating more than I do. She has an incredible collection of blue & white! She just redid her kitchen & used my old kitchen drapes that I didn't like - they look fab in her room! She has given most of her stuff away over the years - she redecorates every few years! - but she has asked me what I want out of her house. I just gave her my Charles Faudree books to borrow & she loved them. She has the ability to look at books, mags & not copy exactly but get the same feeling from the picture. She said she had lots of old books on French country decorating - but, sadly they are all gone.

What a room! Fantastic! Love all the colors you used and how you combined them. Warm and inviting. Love your sofa, too. Or is that a loveseat? I need a new small sofa myself, so what I need myself is always what jumps out at me when I see a good picture, LOL!

linnea56, the sofa is the only major purchase for the room. They called it a settee - it was back room clearance at Ethan Allen. It is very comfortable with down cushions:) I curl up there and read.

Don't forget about antique stores...often the older/vintage furniture is smaller in scale - you can always add a slipcover if you don't like the upholstery. I missed a darling loveseat that was $98!! Went back the next day & it was gone.

Bebe, sure, the fabric is by Covington called Bosporus. They have several colorways & I am not sure of the correct name - I bought it here locally. I think mine is the antique colorway. One store had it for 14.99 but I purchased for 16. It was just $1 higher but I like to trade with that paticular fabric store.

Here is a link for a pillow on eBay....this one might be more of the burgundy colorway - not sure....but might be what you are looking for:)
