I got Married last weekend!!!!!

Yes! It was wonderful!!! I can't tell you how happy I am! No major problems...unless you count the groom's tux sleeves coming untacked (his mom pinned them up with the safety pins in my 'emergency pack' that she was carrying- thanks to all of your who mentioned the necessities for that pack!) and I had the elastic on one slipper stretch out as we got to the reception but ...taaaaa da.... I had a spare pair with us! LOL

Everyone had a good time and the food was fantastic at the reception...sigh...and my beloved husband made a surprise dedication to me...had me in tears but I wouldn't trade the moments for anything. See, I'd debated the whole 'change my name thing' because it will be time consuming and there'll be lots of paperwork to do but I never really thought I'd do anything else but take his name. When I told him that I was definitely doing that and even made it 'official' on the license...he was so touched he planned this: He took the mic from the DJ and told me how much it meant to him and then dedicated a song to me...darned if my very tired brain (just got back from the honeymoon today.. hehe) can recall the artist, but the song is "my last name" and it's a very touching one about how the singer's name is all he has to offer but it's a good and honest one and he'd never shame it..etc... well, it had me in tears... was sooooo sweet!

Anyway... I'm going to get some pictures up at some point, I promise!

It sounds like you had a wonderful time. How touching of your husband to make such a lovely dedication.
I also debated about the whole name thing. We went last week to get our license, and where it asks what your name will be, i automatically filled in his last name, it just flowed right out of the pen. So, I guess I was destined to take his name.
Tell us, if you could change one thing, what would it be? Did all of the stress of planning pay off?
I can't wait until those church doors open, and I see my sweety at the end of the aisle waiting on me. I just know I am going to cry!

Thanks for looking. She has always thought she could do anything. When she was about five, she came running into the house and said, "I'm going to learn to play basketball"!. My first thought was oh no your not, as the net hangs over the street. But on second thought, I said, ok, let's go out there. Of course I was near her at all times. At my 2nd son's wedding she came over to me and said, "Grammaw, no one will dance with me". She was 6 yrs old. A family friend got up and asked her to dance, she was so pleased. And now she has her own dancing partner. He is a nice young man. Last year when I was so sick, he was the one pushing the wheelchair in and out of the different doctors offices.

Thanks! Good words of advice. halfdecaf - I love that you repeat your vows on your anniversary. That sounds like a very worthwhile tradition and one I might copy for us. I know the "good cop/bad cop" role is pretty tricky. It's not really how we intended it, but it's how I feel usually. My BF's own father abandoned the family when BF was at a very young age and his mother essentially detached from the family as a result of her husband leaving. As such, BF had no healthy parenting images to look up to so he leans toward parenting out of guilt or giving in too much to his own son. I come from a fairly strict, but caring, family so I've tried to share my own parenting examples with them. The result is that BF's son now has a normal bedtime (when we met he would let his son stay up until midnight! And he was 5!), he cleans up his own plate after dinner, he's not allowed to throw things or act physically in anger, he's not allowed to hit his dad or be disrespectful to us without consequences, etc. So I feel like the "bad cop" because I implement/encourage a lot of the discipline and a lot of the rules about what's acceptable and what's not. The only reason it's working is b/c BF currently backs me up on the decisions and is actually a little grateful that I know a little more than he does about general parenting, while he knows more than I do about his son's specific needs. So I think we make a good team. Of course, if either one of us ever stops supporting the other, I can see how that might cause some mutiny... We are also considering premarital couseling. One of my biggest challenges is learning to bite my tongue and not constantly tell him what to do. I was single for too long and have lots of rules in my own head about the way things "should" be done. On the flip side, he was single too long with a young son - essentially living the bachelor life with a kid tagging along (have you seen the Adam Sandler movie, Big Daddy - something along those lines, but not as extreme). So figuring out when my comments cross over into "nagging" seems to be a fine line. I never want to be the "nagging" wife.

Thank you all for your responses. There is not much I can say for myself, other than I am truly sorry. Sylvia... yes I am devastated... I'm human. I've been in love very few times in my life. I feel stupid to admit this is one... My nights are sleepless and that's when I stay up conflicted about this situation. But be assured my days are spent struggling through the loss of my career opportunity. I play over my evals again and again in my head, but it is easier for me to deal with because it is black and white why I failed. I had a 90% avg going into those final days, but the program is set up to put the pressure on, and I choked. My field is one in which I can still find work but will likely have to resort to contract work and the process is painstakingly slow, but I have always been able to take care of myself, and job wise it's easy for me to sit and make a plan to dig myself out of a hole. Unfortunately when it comes to matters of the heart, it's much more difficult for me. I'm just... sad. Yes Popi I did think with my heart. It's very rare that I let people in, but when I do, I certainly have made mistakes and gotten hurt. (Though this is the only time I've ever fell for someone who was not single) Thank you for the advice. Sylvia the drug reference is good... you are certainly on to something, but I suppose for me it was that I'm a hopeless romantic... I kept picturing Swing Time scenarios... a fine romance indeed. I can't tell you why he pursued me, why I gave in, I can't tell you what it was that made it happen between him and me, I can only admit that it did happen, and that I'm guilty, shameful, and embarrassed. Not an excuse... there is no excuse, and please understand that I do know that... and that I truly am sorry. That's most likely why I feel like I'm struggling the most. That's why I asked, can one be sorry without regret? Meaning I am sorry, but my feelings for him are still there...I want him to be happy. I will always have questions as to why, what if, is he truly happy, etc. But I have blocked him since that last email and now that the wedding day has come and gone, my resolve is solidified. I know time is the only thing that will heal, but I have to say writing it all out the other night helped. And your responses... I needed it. Scarlett I can pretty much guarantee that lesson was learned.

I remember the "perfect marriage" feature on them in Good Housekeeping that came out a week before she divorced the college basketball player. He cheated on her as I recall. Chances are slim that he has developed a taste for fidelity. He sure doesn't look like the same guy in the picture. According to her traditions they are sealed for eternity so I guess it is good to get reacquainted before they both die.

Penny, the planning is worth it! I took that extra pair of shoes and we had safety pins and bandaids and we NEEDED them! We didn't use the chalk or the tape etc but if we had needed them, we would have had them there which is half the battle for 'emergencies'!

If I had it to do over....hmmm, well one thing I cannot stress enough is DOUBLE and TRIPLE check with all your vendors a few weeks ahead of the date and the week before! My florist was wonderful but she made a few minor (thankfully!) mistakes like forgetting to take out one boutenier I had to cancel when we rearranged the wedding party after my husbands friends couldn't come out to be in the wedding but the tux thing (shop suddenly said they couldn't get what he needed a week before the wedding!)could have been a nightmare if Jim, (my DH)hadn't found another place that could fit him in less than a week!

So keep checking those vendors and pack an emergency kit!

Yes, jenny, that's the one! Made me cry halfway through and after I'd just got dried up from my husband's announcement to me....but I loved it! It was the sweetest thing...sigh...

Thanks gellchom and Springbride! Yes, it was pretty much without a hitch! LOL, I even got to the church ON TIME despite our not being ready at the house when the photographer arrived! Even the video a friend set up (he was also a groomsman so couldn't hand shoot the whole thing) came out really nicely!

To all of you here who've been posting- Thanks so much for your help and advice and especially the support when things were rough, I really appreciate it and can't thank you enough! This is one fantastic wedding site and it has a lot of truly caring and wonderful people!

I LOVE when people come back and tell us about their weddings! What worked, what didn't, what unexpected thing happened, what touched you the most. This is excellent feed back and I hope more brides will do it.

Scarlett, I'd seen a few others do it and thought it was a good idea too! I love seeing other people's pics and hearing how things went!

Thank you DuckyHead! We couldn't be happier....and a bit giddy still, but definitely happy that we had our special day and are now married!

Oh, Penny! One thing I did forget...there IS ONE THING we wish we'd done differently. We used cheap but 'pretty' cameras on the tables for the reception....ugh.. we got maybe 1 good pic for every 6 or 7 lousy ones and really wish we'd used better quality cameras/film! So that is one thing I highly recommend!
