I've got a sick daughter,...I'm going to try to help her

My oldest daughter and ggrandaughter are coming over tomorrow morning. (her husband is bringing her) She has been really sick for a couple of weeks now. First it was flu like symptoms then she felt just a little better over the weekend. Sunday night when she went home she said she felt like her fever was coming back and she sound awful.

She went to dr. today. She has pneumonia and strep throat. They gave her shots and lots of meds. But she has no one to help her with the baby. I ask her husband if he would bring her here (and baby) I'm hoping she'll stay a few days so I can help her and let her get some sleep.

Jeff's girlfriend is off on Fridays so she will help me chase after the little one. She's a busy one. We've got a couple extra couches and a cot..so the whole family can come if the want. grandson has his own car and a job so he might not.

You got to do what you can. and she needs some help.

How wonderful of you to step in and take over for her. It is not easy being a mom of little ones.

Our daughter was sick a month ago with a bad cold that her 3 year old brought home, so I drove up to her place just to let her nap and collapse while I took care of the 1 and 3 year olds who were improving. I am glad I live close enough to help.

I'm sure she'll appreciate the help and sounds like that little one will be fun!

Try dabbing undiluted vinegar on the bites. It sure sounds like mosquito bites, chigger bites, something like that, & those things *can* get inside the house. If you've had a lot of rain this spring, the resulting standing water will have incubated a bumper crop of mosquitoes. They *could* be fleas (no sign of poor housekeeping, they're migratory & opportunistic), but I think you'd see them. Spiders secrete an anesthetic so that their victims don't feel the bite, & they often bite sleeping people, so you might not see them, but if they were spiders, I think you'd have bruises & be sick by now...

Dee, thank you for the kind words..I followed your advice and looked up your color diva, emailed, waiting for a response. The mirror was money, but not so much of mine. I bought it at an auction and boy was I excited! That's why paint is so important..once that mirror goes up, it will be difficult to get it down. Cam, how did you find that photo? It has all the right elements.bookcases, etc. Nice sleuthing, I love the photo, unfortunately, I don't think I have a wall that would work..no mill work to define it. KMCG your comment is a stroke of brilliance..bring the brown onto the couch to ground it to the floor, where are those pillows from? I am excited to press on, so many good ideas. What do you think about an padded/upholstered coffee table/ottoman? Or a glass coffee table? Thanks again to all!

There's no doubt about it, your mother NEEDS to be seen and evaluated--with actual medical testing--by competant medical professionals. Think about it this way. She's sick--very, very sick from what you describe. IF--worse case scenario--she were to go to the hospital and wait 7 hours, at least she'd be getting treatment in 7 hours. Keep her home and where will she be in 7 hours? Exactly where she is now, if not worse. How is the BRAT diet going to help if she isn't eating (since Thurs) and cannot keep anything down anyway? Look, if you're going to make a mistake with your mom's health and treatment PLEASE make it on the side of caution. Don't make the mistake of neglecting her health--that could have serious consequences for her.

Glad your whale watch actually found some whales! Our winter breaks on Maui coincide with Whale Season in Hawaii -- best viewed from Maui and Big Island of Hawaii. Whales migrate from Alaska to warmer waters to calve -- and to mate. There are astounding breaches by bulls competing to impress the cows. Using binoculars, I can see a lot of 'showboating' from our condo's lanai. Last Christmas we took our son and his family on a morning whale watch out of Maalaea harbor. We were fortunate to have a calm day, with a sea like glass. The bay is a favorite 'nursery' for whales, and we were only out five minutes before seeing a cow, her newborn calf, and an accompanying 'auntie'. (Auntie cows aid with the babies and help keep too-eager bulls at bay.) Later, we were still in the water watching a pod of dolphins when a young bull came alongside the boat and then went under us to the other side. We could almost scratch his back! I don't expect to experience that again. (By law, boats must keep a good distance from whales, but a pilot can only cut engines and wait when a whale decides to approach.)

I'm glad you're able to help. It will be disruptive for a while, but she really does need help or she'll end up in the hospital even sicker. ((Patti))

I remember when my kids were young, I wound up in the hospital for a week with a very bad strep infection. My neighbors were wonderful helping DH get the little girls hair brushed before going to school. I didn't have family nearby to help. Your daughter is lucky to have you. Load up on vitamin C and take good care of yourself as well as your daughter and granddaughter.

Good move, Patti. I remember what it was like to be a young mom with the flu--ugh! I used to say mothers should never get sick. Being in your care should help a lot.

I know how much your DD will appreciate that!! She isn't going to heal correctly if she doesn't get rest and good food! You're a good mama...but I knew that already! =)

She is quite sick, and it is important that she get the rest, hydration and meals she needs. How fortunate she is to have a loving mother to help out. Jeff's girlfriend sounds like a fine person as well. Family helps family when the need arises.

I don't think pneumonia is contagious, but strep is, so if you handle things she has handled be sure to wash your hands. Can she sleep in her own room separate from others?
I bet she will feel much better in a few days. If not, call the dr.

I've had that pneumonia 2x's myself. The first time it was bacterial and the second viral. First time had me in the hospital for 4 days, the second had me home for 2 weeks. I have found for upper respitory Mullens leaf tea is great. It breaks that stuff up real good. I always have it on hand this time of year.

get your lysol can our, lol. spray everything, including the door knobs...

thanks for the info on the tea, two acres...have never heard of it...but dd1's family is asthma country...wonder if it might help?

You're a great Mom to jump in and help. Your daughter and her family are lucky to have you. She will alwys remember when Mom jumped in to help when she was so sick.

Like others have said take care of yourself during this time.. I will be thinking of all of you...

wowsers Patti..I know what that gal is going thru..I had that dose 2x this fall already..and each dose lasted 3 wks.

get her Buckleys,if it is available in the states..its truly the only thing that works for it

Not sure about the asthma truthfully. I am a smoker and get that wet cough, when it comes on I drink my tea and it helps to break up that stuff.

I was gonna say pnemonia is going around dialysis about 6 people had it now this month so far.Hope she gets better.
