Did you change your mind on the red paint?
I keep going back and forth between these 2 posts and cannot figure out what you are correcting on the walls? Is this going to give you more space? Or will the bed still go in the same direction?

You didn't get a lot of feedback on the red, and that's usually because everyone is too polite to say when they don't like something. I'm getting curmudgeonly enough to not worry about it...I'm not a fan of the red... it would feel too close for me given the canopy and the tight space and red is a powerful color. For a bedroom, I would prefer something more soothing.

However, you've done such a terrific job on the rest of your place that, even if you decide to do the red, I'm sure you'll make it look just fine.

I've already committed to the red, and it's grown on me. The bed is going to be plain and white/off white, so I'm not worried about it being too dark given the huge amount of light in the room and the light rug. The ceiling will now be the same color as my kitchen cabinets, and the trim will be the same color as the crown moulding and other trim in my dining room.

Lyban, the length of wall cabinets is 94": two 18" pantry cabinets and two 27" drawer bases with about 2" of filler on each end.

I really like the room with the overhang removed. Will the bed possibly orient the other way now? Of course that would mean one side would be against the wall, I guess.

OH thank god that horrific 1980's jut (is that when it was from LOL?) is gone Kevin. I love the change...but sheesh what I love more is that dang floor!!! If you don't need it, please rip it up and send it across the country to me????

So glad to see the bump out removed! I assume you'll be moving the bed but not sure I would if it puts it up against the wall. I don't remember the dimensions of the room but it seemed like you should have some space.

I also like the red.. and I don't usually like red. I think it will look great with white/off white bedding. I'd probably throw in a camel throw or quilt also.

Part of why I am doing this is so that the bed go be oriented the other way. Like this (everything is to scale except for the pitch on the ceiling):

And this is the cover I bought for the bed/down comforter today. It was on sale at the Polo Ralph Lauren outlet for 50% off their price (and more off the retail price)--$120. It's white with seersucker-type strips every 4-6" and a ruffle around the sides.

I'll just be using this with a wool tartan blanket at the foot.

I think it looks wonderful. Having one side of the bed against the wall makes it look like one of those chinese opium beds. The mock ups are excellent, what do you use to make them and is it hard to use?

Your contractor works fast! Much better without the bump. With the red, the coverings, and that gorgeous bed,that room will be outstanding.( no surprise there, given the rest of your home)

Kevin, I just love the pictures of your home. Great job working with it's original bones. I grew up working at my Aunt and Uncle's Drugstore/Luncheonette which was located at 10th and Spruce where I think a MCM used furniture store is now located (I passed it briefly recently). They were there for 53 years. Another Aunt and Uncles owned a home at 9th and Pine.

After it was a Luncheonette,it was also for many years a Video Store (probably of the first wave of 1980s video stores).

Believe it or not, the two guys who own that store are the guys who used to own my house (and the one next to it which they had combined into one house before splitting them back up to sell them).

The program I used for the 3D design was Thomasville's room planner. It's on the company's website and is straightforward (once you figure out how to do on your Mac, if you're me, that is).

Small, Small world. It was called Clinton Pharmacy. I plan to visit the store the next time I am working in the area. I wonder what it looks like inside.

I too, love your home! I've totally enjoyed seeing the pictures you so generously share with us on the forum.

A question: Is your antique bed shorter than modern beds? If so, have you bought a new mattress and bed springs? And if you have, and if you are happy with them, would you share where you bought them?

The reason I ask is that I have an antique sleigh bed that very much needs a new mattress and box springs. It is about an inch shorter than modern standard mattresses. I'm having a difficult time finding a quality mattress for it.

It's not antique in the true sense of the word it's only 35 years old. It's a true full size.

Kevin, think twice about having that bed against the wall. It becomes a pain in the neck when changing sheets, etc.

Consider putting the night stand on the other side of the bed. I realize that crowds the room a bit more, but it will make the bed more functional.

It would be easier to have the nightstand between the bed and the wall for two users and to make it. It becomes a tradeoff in such small rooms because it is nice to have the additional breathing room by the door with the nightstand there.

In this case though I would go for function.

I like your bedding choice, especially with the reddish orange wall color. If this were anything but a guest bedroom, it personally would drive me crazy to make a bed againest the wall, but since I think you said it is a guest room, it wouldn't be so irritating. This is going to be a very nice looking little room that has a grand style. Old houses are my favorite, yours is very nice!
